People started to use the excuse that women like that should not get the vote because of lack of responsibility. Emily Davison convinced people of desperation for suffrage. However, in my opinion, the most convincing thing that the Suffragettes and Suffragists did was the work that they did in the war and their contributions.
These women who worked in the war, even though they had not been given the vote were truly honourable. The women gained respect from people and, in my opinion; they won the vote for this reason. There were many other reasons why women won the vote. The work of the suffragettes and the suffragists was very important. Millicent Fawcett said that if men lost the right to vote if they didn’t go to war, women should get the vote for helping the war.
Women had many duties in the time of war, their duties included looking after homes and children that the men left behind. Women had to drive trains, plough fields, clean streets, and repair lamps, fight fires and most importantly; make munitions for the soldiers to use. These women knew that it was right to help in times of trouble, irrespective of what the conditions of thought were like towards giving women the vote. Societies attitudes towards women changed for the better towards women. This gave the vote. Overall, the violence, the struggles, the suffrage and the work in the war won women the vote. So, in conclusion, the violence used was the publicity, the act of kindness during the war, however convinced society to give women the vote. Emily Davison showed these women’s’ desperation.
There is also a view that People only gave women the vote because after war, no one could face more violence, this could have been a factor, especially when the last thing that anyone wants after the war is a blown up house like Lloyd George’s.
