Part C 'Abortion is never justified' Do you agree? Give reasons to support your answer and show that you have thought about different points of view. You must refer to Christianity in your answer. Many people around the world believe that abortion is an unjust act against life. However many people disagree with this, and they believe that abortion is a choice that is up to the women involved. In this part the argument for and against abortion shall be displayed. Often a person's views on abortion depend on when they believe life begins. Some people believe that life begins at birth while others believe that life begins at other stages during the pregnancy, for example when the foetus's heart begins to beat. Moreover, if a person believes life begins at birth then abortion is not a moral issue because the foetus is technically not a life. According to Christians, God gave you a life and getting rid of it would be going against God's act of life. However, other people see the start of life as being when the sperm joins with the egg; thus they believe life begins at conception. So by inducing an abortion they believe that the woman doing so is committing murder. All Christians believe abortion is murder and God commanded them not to commit murder, as it states in the Ten Commandments, 'Thou shalt not commit murder'. Another argument for abortion is that a woman has rights

'Abortion is never justified' do you agree? Give reasons to support your answer and show that you have thought about different points of view. You must refer to Christianity in your answer Abortion is becoming more widespread in today's society. And still Christians stand by the belief that abortion is never justified under any circumstance. They believe that the unborn child is a human being right from conception. Therefore an abortion would be murder. The Christian belief in the sanctity of life is based on the teachings of famous Christians and on what they read in the bible. "You created every part of me; you put me together in my mother's womb" This seems to be saying that god has already begun to have an influence on the life of a person before they are even born. The life of a person is already unique and god has already given them their own identity before they are born. If this is true, and the quote seems to be saying that it is, then abortion would have to be seen as a crime on the same level as murder. There are no good grounds for murder, one of the Ten Commandments says, "Do not commit murder." There is great controversy over abortion when it concerns the life of the pregnant mother. It is fundamentally wrong to put the life of the foetus above the things that have been there to allow it to survive just because it will not be dependent upon them after the

Topical Issues (abortion) - the Christian viewpoint.

Abortion “Unsafe abortions kill 200 women a day according to IPAS, a non-governmental organisation based in the US. IPAS claims that much more needs to be done to make abortion safe and accessible”. The Bible teaches that human life is different from other types of life, because human beings are made in the very image of God. The Bible teaches that children are a blessing. The Bible teaches that the child in the womb is truly a human child, who even has a relationship with the Lord. Scripture repeatedly condemns the killing of the innocent. The Bible teaches that God is a God of justice. Scripture teaches people to love. Life is victorious over death. My conscience tells me abortion is wrong because All life is sacred-all life on Earth was created by almighty God above, and it is therefore morally wrong to deprive an unborn child. No one except God can take away life- all life on Earth was created by almighty God above and so it follows that only He can take it away. No one have this right. Abortion is an anagram of iron boat- I pointing out that abortion is an anagram of Iron boat because, like abortions, iron boats are bad! They sink straight to the bottom, killing everyone on board. Exactly like what abortive mothers do. Roman Catholic and protestant both have same belief. This is what they believe- Life begins at conception – the foetus is

Fertility treatment - the Roman Catholic View.

Dear Jo and Jeremy, I am writing this letter regarding your queries on your current situation. I understand that you have been attempting for a child for six years now, but to only discover Jeremy’s low sperm count – decreasing the chance if a baby. As a solution IVF treatment is accessible for your needs, however it may cause problems among your faith as a Roman Catholic; which will be discussed further throughput this letter. It is believed in the Roman Catholic Church that life begins at conception therefore any techniques aiding infertility must react appropriately and respect this opinion. As a result any artificial insemination or IVF treatments are acceptable, however once the egg and sperm have been fertilised it cannot be wasted or destroyed as this does not follow your religions belief that “Life is God’s gift”. Fortunately, any of Jo’s eggs can be frozen for future attempts if you are unsuccessful in your first treatments – none of these frozen will be embryo’s therefore you are not freezing a life, accepting the Roman Catholic view. But more than one embryo is inserted into Jo therefore there is a chance that not all of them will develop into fetus’ and could be interpreted as ‘killing’. Also, the two of you (Jo and Jeremy) have been married for eight years proving that in the eyes of the church you’re approved to receive this fertility

An embryo is a person and has the right to live? Discuss

“An embryo is a person and has the right to life” A Roman Catholic would agree with this statement. Firstly, they are followers of Natural law and divine command ethics. As such, they relate to the teachings in the bible that relate to the sanctity of life, and therefore they believe an embryo is a person from the moment of conception. Roman Catholic law teaches that a foetus is a human being. Secondly, Natural law is based upon God’s purpose for his creation, and Natural Law places the protection of life and species above all others. Finally, they believe that life is holy and belongs to God, and thus only god can take it away, and life and personhood begins at conception. All persons have a natural right to life, and the mother and foetus have equal rights. "human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception. From the first moment of his existence, a human being must be recognized as having the rights of a person - among which is the inviolable right of every innocent being to life." Also, the 6th commandment states that “thou shalt not commit murder” and as the foetus is a person and has the right to life, killing it would be murder. However, there is one exception, which is called the law of double effect. This rule states that if lifesaving treatment is given to a pregnant woman, (e.g. when conception happens in the fallopian

The Christian View Of Abortion

THE CHRISTIAN VIEW OF ABORTION Throughout this essay, I will be discussing the Christian views on abortion. I will be presenting arguments for and against abortion then will conclude on if abortion is right or wrong. Many Christians believe that abortion is wrong because it is the termination of the unborn foetus. They also believe the life is sacred and belongs to God; only he has the right to end a pregnancy. An abortion should never be the answer no matter what the circumstances may be. Christians oppose the deliberate killing of the unborn baby when the mother's life is not in danger. Some pregnant women or girls have their unborn babies killed because they do not want the responsibility of looking after their child. Or they think that if the child lives they will have to give up their career. Or they think it will be too expensive, too time-consuming, embarrassing. Or just too much trouble. So instead of allowing the baby to live and having it adopted out through a welfare agency, they have an abortion, which kills their child. From a Christian view, deliberate abortion - except when the mother's life is in danger - is murder. That is why Christians are against it, even though governments in some parts of the world have legalized it. It is killing the defenseless living beings by taking away their most basic human right: the right to life. The Ten Commandments, which

Religious Studies Coursework Abortion

G.C.S.E. RELIGIOUS STUDIES COURSEWORK ABORTION ) (a) When a woman is expecting a baby then usually the couple thinks of this as being good news. However, for some people 'pregnancy can be very bad news.' This is because they think that having a child will cause problems. Some examples of problems: a woman might have to take a break from her education or career in order to take care of the child; sometimes 'a woman might get pregnant without being married or in a stable relationship'; and a woman might get pregnant because of rape and she would not want the child because it would be an accident and also the child will be fatherless. For a woman to give up her child she would want an abortion. 'Abortion is the termination of a pregnancy by artificial or chemical means.' This results in the death of the foetus. Abortion is not the same as contraception. This is because abortion occurs when the foetus has developed whereas contraception is to prevent a woman from getting pregnant. A way of contraception is when a woman takes pills. It works by altering the hormone balance of the woman's body, so that she does not become fertile. This is the safest method of contraception. Some abortions happen naturally because the foetus does not 'develop normally' of the mother, has an injury or disorder. This type of natural abortion is usually a miscarriage. There are a number of

a(i) Describe the treatments available to help infertile couples to have children. There are now many different types of treatments available to help infertile couples have children. One of these is In-Vitro Fertilisation (IVF). This is a process in which fertilisation occurs outside the body of the woman, in-vitro being Latin for 'in glass', which is why IVF babies are often known as 'test tube babies'. In the process of IVF a human egg is extracted from the ovary and mixed with semen from the husband or partner, fertilisation then occurs outside of the body. After fertilisation, the egg begins to divide and the newly developed embryo is then placed in the mother's uterus, where it will hopefully mature into a baby. According to Warnock report, which was set up by a government committee to examine the issue of IVF and embryo experiments, "IVF was regarded as an established form of treatment for infertility." The first successful IVF procedure occurred in July 1978 (Louise Brown) and was a result of 10 years of research by Dr R.G. Edwards who said, "a society that permitted eugenic abortion could hardly object to IVF which was trying to 'create life'." IVF is one of the only infertility treatments that can be used if both the husband and wife have fertility problems, such as damaged fallopian tubes or a low sperm count, and is often the only way these couples can have

Religion and Medical Issues

Religion and Medical Issues For many people the purpose of marriage is procreation. However for some people this is difficult. Many women in the UK are infertile, being infertile forces women not to be able to have offspring due to the egg not being able to be fertilized, and therefore women which are infertile can not get pregnant and produce offspring. There are many different reasons why some women can't conceive children naturally, such as genetic reasons that have been passed down though their genes. They might have caught a sexually transmitted infection that has led to infertility. Or they might be physically unable by being too old to bear a child themselves. Around about 12.5 per cent of couples in the UK are thought to have fertility problems. Women become disappointed when they are informed that they are infertile. Most of these women become desperate to become mothers so they decide to turn to fertility treatment. Fertility treatment helps a woman to become pregnant so that she can have children. There are several different types of fertility treatment for women these are. * In-vitro-fertilisation (IVF) * Artificial Insemination by husband (AIH) * Artificial Insemination by donor (AID) * Egg Donation * Embryo donation * Surrogacy In-vitro-fertilisation, the eggs are gathered from the woman's ovaries and mixed with the man's sperm in a dish in the

Is abortion morally correct?

Abortion Medical abortion exists as the most controversial issue in modern society. Abortion is a surgical or medical procedure that puts an end to a pregnancy. Abortion, to say the least, is a controversial topic in today's society and has been for the last two decades. Two opposing sides emerge from this problem: Those opposed to abortion, "Pro-life", have concerns about protecting human life. On the other hand, those in favor of abortion, "Pro-choice", feel it is the right of the individual to make the decision for themselves. No issue brings out so much passion and hatred of the other side. Any court decisions related to abortion regularly bring protestors from both sides. Those who think abortion should be generally illegal typically use terms such as "unborn baby." According to Webster's College Dictionary, the word "baby" can apply before birth, but this usage is medically inaccurate and tends to evoke a warm sentiment. Hence, it will not be used. Those who think abortion should be generally legal typically use the word "fetus." This is a medical term, and depending upon the number of weeks since conception, it may be accurate. However, the word sounds clinical and inanimate, and those who use it in the political arena have a double standard when it comes to using medical terms. Rarely do activists or the mainstream media use medical terms when referring to a
