Fast food is very essential for American. In their daily lives, they cannot adapt the life that without fast food restaurant. Because American have a high efficiency life, so fast foods have developed rapidly, even have become a special local American culture. At the same time, American fast food is most famous in the world. How can American fast food restaurant attract American, even the most of people in the world? There are many fast food restaurants in America, so the competition is quite cut –throat. How can these companies exist in the market? Except America local culture, the most important thing is the moderate differentiation. Different kings of American fast food cater to different kind of taste. American fast food restaurant market is monopolistic competition, which is near a perfect competition because there are so many fast food restaurants but the market has moderate differentiation.

If people want to study American fast food restaurants, they should know the market profile of America fast food market. Now there are 85,000 fast food restaurants in the USA. For example, McDonalds has more than 13,000 US restaurants, they serve about 46 million people a day. There are many major competitors in America. IHOP, WENDY’S, KFC, PIZZA HUT, JACK IN THE BOX, A&W, BURGER KING, TACO BELL, Arby’s, Domino’s PIZZA, MCDONALN’S, SUBWAY, PANDA EXPRESS. Some excellent fast food restaurants like McDonalds, KFC, Pizza Hut, and Subway are also famous in the world. To be worth rising, McDonald’s is the biggest fast food restaurant in America; it shares 15.3% of the American fast food market. McDonald’s has a long history; it had built the first restaurant in 1975, and built the first diver-thru restaurant in 1975. McDonald’s is also famous in the world, it has 300,000 number of fast food restaurant in 121 country. Because McDonald’s is an indigenous fast food restaurant in America, and it has a very stringent rules to staff, so McDonald’s can be very successful.

The market of American fast food is monopolistic competition. First, we can prove in numbers. There are 85,000 fast food restaurants in American. So many restaurants in America, it accords the number of monopolistic competition. Second, The American fast food restaurants have moderate differentiation. So the market accords the second characteristic, products differentiated. Third, price is a decision variable, but limited. So it accords price characteristic of monopolistic competition.
