The purpose of business is to earn money, in other words, it is to produce profit. To produce profit, we do business, and of course, we must do well to produce profit. Generally, a well business is done with four factors, namely money, substance, human and time. In those, human resource is the unit of handling human and as I stated already, human resource management has a very important function in business field. It is said that to put forth the specialty of human resource management as business situation has changed over recent years with aspects of an intensification of international competition and improvements of IT technology.

Human resource has four functions that deal with human. There are staffing function, training and developing function, motivation function and maintenance function. All the functions are essential for the business to survive, however, I think motivation is the most important function of all. The word “motivation” is often used to describe certain sorts of behaviour. A student who studies hard and tries for top grades may be described as being highly motivated. Such statements imply that motivation has a major influence on our behaviour but they don't really tell us how. The concept of motivation is that “something that prompts person to act in a certain way” (Rudman, 2002, p412). Also according to the researcher, Davidman (1970), motivation can be defined as a concept used to describe the factors within an individual, which prompt, maintain and channel behaviour towards a goal.

The reason I think motivation is most important factor in human resource management is because I conceive that the supreme goal of human resource management is that to retain employees’ motivation high. This is the way to make the most of human resource that is limited. Because people must have motivation when they start doing things. For example, when people feel good or enjoy doing something, this will become motivation. It is the same in business situation. Satisfied and enjoyable job becomes motivation for employees. Moreover, high motivation influences a team. Even though there are many superior workers in a team, it could be meaningless when their motivation is low. Therefore, motivation is significant for company’s well business.
