Archimedes was born in the year 298B.C in Syracuse Sicily. His father was Phidas, who was an astronomer. When he was young, he studied with Euclid’s students in Alexandria. There, he learned many math concepts and abilities and became friends with Conon of Samos. At that time, he was not famous for his math ideas but for the machines used to fight wars. His works were not all well known until Eutocius brought out some of Archimedes’ work in the sixth century. However, a lot of his ideas were lost but there were references to his other theorems. Archimedes believed in pure math/geometry and created many inventions from them. Many historians considered him the greatest mathematician.
