A REPORT ON THE DEATH OF MR DAVID SMITH.

TERMS OF REFERENCE:

I have been asked to write a report by The Crown Prosecution Service on the incident taken place on the M602 motorway and Regent’s road, Salford. At 7.45AM, on the 20th May 2004, David Smith was found unconscious on the grass verge at the junction of the M602 motorway. When the paramedics arrived, they established that was still alive but was losing a lot of blood internally. They took him to the hope hospital where, at 8.30, Mr Smith died from his injuries.

The following items were found on Mr Smith’s person:

  1. A wallet containing various photographs and cards- no cash- no credit cards.
  2. A set of keys
  3. A Nokia mobile phone which provided the following information:
  • A text message from Sara Smethwick saying “C U at Party L8tr”
  • A total of 7 calls from Miss Smethwick’s phone which were unanswered.

The cards found o David Smith are the following:

  • A mini bank statement printed out in the 19/05/2004
  • The University of Salford’s student union card.
  • An invitation card to a party which was on the 19th May 2004 from 9.30pm.

When I was told to be in charge of this case, the first thing I did was ring up Miss Sara Smethwick. I got her phone number from David Smiths mobile phone; he had 7missed calls from Miss. Smethwick on the night of 19th May 2004.I wanted to ask Miss. Smethwick about the relationship she had ...
