The little village behind the seven mountains

Jacob Merenyi TP1A The little village behind the seven mountains Once upon a time in a country forgotten long, long ago, there was a little village. The village were situated in the deepest wood you could ever imagine! To get to the village you had to go climb over the seven mountains, and swim over the three rivers and then of course walk through the deep forest. As you can imagine it wasn't all that easy to get to the little village, but that didn't matter because there where never any visitors there, no one outside the deep wood, the three rivers and the seven mountains knew about the little village anyway. The people who lived there had everything that they needed, and lived a happy life in their little village. The years passed on as they always had done, spring went to summer and so on, but one day everything suddenly changed, when the old wise man of the village went out into the deep forest to pick some mushrooms. Well out in the forest he saw the finest mushrooms you could ever imagine. He was just about to pick one when a little blue dwarf with a white hat, not larger than his own thumb showed himself! The dwarf jumped up on the old mans nose, (that was big enough to hold at leas 4 more of the dwarfs) and said: Please don't pick those mushrooms its mine and my friends little houses. The dwarf told the old man that he could show him another place where he could

The Low Down on Spanking

April Pennington Psyc 3620-002 February 5, 2003 The Low Down on Spanking There are many different types of discipline to choose from as a parent. Many forms are effective, but only if they are used correctly. You must also take into account the personality of the child you are attempting to control. When you are considering spanking as a means of discipline you must understand that there are right and wrong ways to administer this punishment. There are several things you do not want to do when attempting to be successful with spanking. First and foremost, you never want to spank a child out of anger. This only reinforces violent tendencies and teaches a child that it is normal to hit things out of rage. It also may lead to child abuse. If you are always hitting your child before you have had time to cool off you could possibly start to hit them without reason. Second, after you have cooled off and have had time to think, you need to evaluate the situation. The importance of evaluating the situation allows you to tell the child his exact offense. Letting the child know exactly what they have done helps to decrease the chance that the behavior will be repeated. The third thing you want to avoid when using the spanking approach is overuse. The more you spank your child the less meaning and affect it has over their behavior. If you spank your child for every

What do I think about the war in Iraq? This is both an easy and a difficult question to give an answer to.

MARINA NAZZARO Cell. 347.8159393 [email protected] Biennio di Specializzazione in Traduzione Letteraria THE WAR IN IRAQ What do I think about the war in Iraq? This is both an easy and a difficult question to give an answer to. Easy because war should be abhorred by everyone and should never be taken into account as a solution for whatever kind of problem may rise on the face of Earth. And this is my position. But it is also difficult because, unfortunately, when economical interests are at stake ? and this is true for this war as it was true for the wars of the past ? man seems to forget how terrible it is to bring death, destruction and devastation to many and many innocent people and he seems to keep just power and money in his mind. For it is clear that this is a war for oil, whose real reason has been well hidden behind an anti-terrorism propaganda, built ? in a quite disgusting way, I dare say ? on the wave of the feelings of anguish and fear born on September 11, when the Manhattan Twin Towers were destroyed. Even if terrorism was the real cause for this war, it would be a mistake to believe it can be destroyed through this kind of military action because ? and most experts assert this ? terrorism is not the expression of a centralized and hierarchical power which plans its actions, but it rather has its own characteristics, developing itself in a myriad

I was at the lowest point of my life at seven years old.

I was at the lowest point of my life at seven years old. I was twenty pounds over the average weight of an average seven year old boy. I was in trouble of not moving on to the next grade. Also I had no ambitions nor was I motivated to do anything. Well many might say that's normal for a seven year old kid, but there had to be something to change my character and point me in the right direction. My parents were concerned and they would always try to motivate me to do things. For example, I would be forced to go on, what I believed to be long arduous bike rides on the weekends. Worst, they would make me run in the morning. I hated my parents little adventures and I would always throw a tantrum when they asked me to go. They tried putting me in sports like, little league, basketball, soccer, even gymnastics. Nothing interest me, the close I got to a team sport was two players on Nintendo. I needed some kind of light, maybe even a miracle. Then one day arrived a beacon, it came in a form of a letter. It read, "Come for a free- trail at the U.S. Tae Kwon Do Center." My parents asked if this would interest me. At the time, The Karate Kid was my favorite movie and I thought of it as something fun and not a athletic sport. This was my parents final hope. It was an afternoon after my parents got off work and we entered the brand new dojo. That's Korean for

Describe an Exam room

English coursework by Sanamdeep Aujla Describe an Exam room I entered the room at nine forty five; I could sense the activity that had taken place in the room, knowing that I will have to put my skills to pass this stage. The officer pointed at my seat, as I walked towards my seat, the adrenaline in my body was building and my face portrayed the image of fear. I had been waiting for this encounter for a year, and soon it would be right in front of my eyes. As the exam papers were handed out, an urge of sickness filled in my stomach. The day had come, where I had to come face to face with my enemy. This was not just a test of my knowledge but an indication of my future. The room was enclosed with walls indicating that there was no way out, the scent of the room reminded me of the London dungeon. I was now in complete isolation and no one but me could write on this dependant paper that may well decide my future, the exam boards clear instructions were read out, one little peak to the side to glance at a fellow student, or there work would result in the exclusion of my paper also taking my career. The clock was moving fast. Without prior notice, the examination officer vocalized that the exam had started. I looked upon the first question; I felt more confident. I checked my solutions several times, as I was checking; a song came to my mind, I was distracted by the love of

Reflective Essay - This semester in this class I have learned that I most definitely like personal narrative style of writing the best

Maggie McDonald ENGL 251- The Essay MJ Iuppa December 9, 2001 Reflective Essay This semester in this class I have learned that I most definitely like personal narrative style of writing the best. I actually learned that between this class and my Intro to Creative Writing class because between these two classes, I have written every type of writing that there possibly is. I wrote everything from an informational essay, to an analytical essay, to a monologue, to fiction pieces this semester. I can find my "writers voice" most easily when I am writing a personal narrative. They're more fun for me and I am able to get into them more and really give great detail so that the reader can really understand what I'm trying to say. I think that the reason for all the different type of things that we did in class, such as the readings, discussions and writing exercises, were to not only benefit our writing, but to expand our minds. We wrote about a lot of things that you don't normally think of to write about. Such as writing about how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich is not your normal writing assignment. I do see a difference in my writing from the beginning of the semester. I feel like finding my "voice" has helped me become more confident as a writer and has made me not as shy about sharing my work. I even entered a piece into The Angle this semester, and I

Verbal communicative behaviour Verbal communicative behaviour is one of two major communication code systems, associated with the transmission of messages using spoken words typically labelled as "language". Taking into consideration that man shows his or her personality and temper while speaking, in the artistic work it can be achieved by means of character's speech, it being deeply individualized, with all the words, expressions, figures of speech and expressiveness. "Personality" is usually understood as the expression of oneself, that what makes one man different from another. This notion is commonly used to refer to someone's uniqueness, including his or her individual traits, feelings, position in life and goals. We express ourselves by our clothes, appearance, behaviour, by every act and movement, but most of all we express ourselves by what we say and the way we say it, since any personality displays itself and his or her essence through subjective activity and communication, which is impossible without language and speaking. No other personality factor counts so much for or against us as does our speech, because it reflects person's social experience, status (age, education, profession, place of residence, etc.) individual way of thinking, intellect, inner condition, attitude to life. Thus it is obvious that nobody can be understood beyond his or her speech,

Diary on the boarding house.

Diary on the boarding house Monday Today I met bob for the first time. I sneaked into his room very anxiously and I was also pretty paranoid. I stayed in bob's room for a short time. He was explaining to me how attractive and special I was to him. But he said to not tell anyone about us yet as he felt it was a bit early and could come as a shock to everyone. I could understand because it was happening so soon and we were also thinking how mother may react to it. The first time I met him I hade a tiny cascading sensation because I had a feeling I had met the right man. I went back to my room and thought a lot about him all night. Tuesday Bob and I had a magical night. It was great fun. We tiptoed up the stairs after he ate his dinner, which I prepared for him. I started the conversation while we ate but bob didn't look very keen discuss matters as he was very tired when he came from work. When we got to his room He was very romantic and suggested to light a candle for each other as a symbol for our love. Bob made love to me for the first time. He was the kind of man you would want to marry. It felt, as he could be my chance of a better life. I have had my times with other men but he has by far looked the best prospect. Wednesday I never got to see bob today. We met for a short time and he told me jack was home early and said it was too risky to meet up. He was looking

Why is the sea salty?

Essay #2 Jong-Hyuk KIM. Class For Freshman Composition. Vika Shock. Why is the sea salty? Once upon a time, there was a fisherman in a peaceful sea village. He lived with his mother, father, wife and children. He always served his parents heartily with devotion and the time when he communicated with his family is the happiest moment. Also, he was always diligent, honesty and scrimpy and his life was always positive. Even though he was not plentiful in property, he was not greedy but enjoyed helping people who fell in troubles. Once, there was a very big natural disaster, which gave a lot of damages to that village. Because the man couldn't catch fishes, his family had to suffer hunger. However, he loved his family more than before and also helped the poor people to restore the original conditions, which were damaged by the disaster. Like this, even poverty couldn't change his good conduct and everything looked peaceful for him and the calmness always in his mind. Having watched him intently for a long time and being moved by his good conduct, the God gave him a millstone as a gift, which can generate the white powder by only putting water into. The white powder was the "SALT". As time was going on, the fact that the salt can be used usefully for keeping foods for a long time and for delicious cooking was known all over throughout villages, the white powder became popular

Narrative Essay - The Authentic Voice

Narrative Essay 1 Joey R. Garcia English 1301 November 21, 2002 Assignment: Narrative Essay The Authentic Voice The majority of people have some kind of hopes and dreams. Hopes are "desires accompanied by expectations of fulfillment, and give promises to the future," (The American Heritage Dictionary, page 622). Dreams are "notable for their beauty, excellence, and enjoyable quality," (The American Heritage Dictionary, page 424). Throughout my life I have had many hopes and dreams that have never come true. However, there was not a bigger disappointment in my life than what happened one year ago this coming December. Our lives can change at any given moment, but sometimes we do not understand, and take our lives for granted. One year ago, I regret not being in the hospital and because I was working that day, my life had changed forever. The last thing my Grandfather said to me that really stuck in my mind was, "Finish college that way you can find a good job and make lots of money." I being the "Perfect grandson," I reassured him that I would finish college and get a good job. Of course in my mind I was really thinking, "what would my life be like if I just continued working and not have the right education? " On Monday, December 17th, 2001, became the saddest day of my life. It all began on a Friday. There was a NBA Basketball game
