Describe the advantages of database management systems over traditional file processing systems Database management system is "a collection of programs that enables you to store, modify, and extract information from a database" (Webopedia 2010). It is a fast and efficient method to store and retrieve information (Ezine@rticle 2005). On the other hand, for the traditional file processing system, "each user defines and implements the needed files for a specific application to run" (Ezine@rticle 2005). The two differ greatly. On the agency website, IEMA publicly states its mission: To protect the State of Illinois through integrated approaches of Emergency Management and Homeland Security to prepare for, respond to, mitigate against and recover from emergencies and disasters, or acts of terrorism. IEMA has 15 facilities located around the State, and 4 mobile command posts, which provide communications resources and meeting facilities. In addition, the infrastructure includes connections with 6 nuclear power plants around the State. The agency has around 260 employees, the majority of which work in the Division of Nuclear Safety.
