Do culture and individual beliefs affect logical thinking?

In this essay, I will be discussing whether or not I believe that culture and individual beliefs affect logical thinking.  However, to be able to write a concrete essay on this given title, we must first understand and appreciate what is meant by logical thinking.  From my own knowledge, it could be said that a logical thought is something that makes sense to a person or a group of persons who had a thought as a result of a chain of facts or observations that lead to a certain conclusion.

Now that I have a concrete base of what logical thinking is, it could be said that indeed culture and individual beliefs affect logical thinking.  In this essay I will backup the following affirmation: culture and individual beliefs do affect logical thinking.  In order to do this I will use examples and evaluate them so that I can have clearly proved my point.  I will only state the major points regarding this issue so that I can come to a concrete solution without any doubts.

As a start, I would like to say that from my point of view, people grow up to believe on what they have learned during their childhood.  Therefore, if a child grows up in tribes where all of the inhabitants believe in a certain god or theory of evolution or any thing that is different from any logical thinking, this  child would grow up believing that what he learned during his childhood is the truth and that he is correct.  However in many cases the child would have been brought up with incorrect ideas.  As an example, the Indians in the interior of Brazil, are all brought up learning what their parents and tribe members do.  From their point of view there are lots of gods and each god has a specific function e.g. god of the rain, god of nature and of the sun.  Moreover, they are brought up believing that they are capable to invoke any of these gods by making special dances and singing some songs.  Therefore, if a lightning struck a tree, the Indians would recognize it as a God’s will.  For them this is a logical explanation.  These people have never heard of Pythagoras or Aristotle, many of them doesn’t even know what mathematics is.  As you can see, this is a clear example of how people are affected by there culture and other individual beliefs when regarding logical thinking.

On the other hand it could be said that the above affirmation is far too vague and that the example above is incorrect, as many would say that these people believe more in their culture than in the reality due to the lack of scientific knowledge.  Most of the Brazilian Indians are illiterate and have never gone to any school, therefore it is expected for them not to know anything about something being scientifically correct or not.

Another factor that influences a great deal in many peoples lives is religion, as many will mostly believe what their religion tells them ...
