The mathematics department in the Ursuline High School requires a maths teacher. In order, to give an eligible person this job, we need to go through the recruitment and selection process. An ideal, systematic recruitment and selection process is vital to ensure that the right person is found for the job, and unsuccessful applicants are left with a good image of the school and being fairly dealt with throughout the process. My aim is to recruit staff with the appropriate skills and experience, appoint on an appropriate employment contract, ensure fairness and respect equal opportunities and also the aim for me is to follow the instructed guidelines. I also have to monitor and review the process regularly and ensure the process is efficient and cost-effective. Below, is the recruitment and selection process that I will carry out.

An accurate person specification is an essential part of an effective recruitment process. Person specification will enable me to look for exactly what type skills and qualities that are required by the candidates. It will allow me to make accurate comparisons between candidates against the specific requirements of the person needed to fill the job role.

The job advertisements should be consistent with the job description and the person specification, which should be prepared well in advance before any position is advertised. The advertisement will require words that will attract suitable candidates who match the important job and person criteria, and also provide a good and respectable image of the school.
The aim is make sure it attracts a sufficient number of suitably qualified applicants to apply for the job. Therefore, the job vacancy needs to be advertised in the right places, and so we will use the local newspaper called The Guardian of Wimbledon and post our job vacancy in the school’s website and also the Merton Council website and most importantly to the Times Education Supplement. Jobs that require specific skills need to be advertised to ensure they reach the right audience, therefore I need to advertise exact requirements for maths teachers.

There is a wide range of legislation that exists to protect employees, which is designed to ensure the employers go through their responsibilities, by particularly avoiding discrimination and respecting equal opportunities both to the existing staff and to the applicants during the recruitment.
