Robotics. There are many different types of robots used to do many different types of tasks, but all these robots are narrowed down to their bare minimum and all have the same principal behind them.

Name: Kiran Jabeen Tutor: Justin Dean Date: 20/01/04 Course: Mechanical Engineering A robot can be defined as a self-controlled device, which consists of electrical or mechanical units. A robot comes to mind, and has been fictionally known as a mobile device that is humanoid in appearance and has a metallic structure. At present robots are not very humanoid, instead they are machines that run continuously and respond automatically to a users respond, and can be controlled by a human operator even from a great distance. The word robot comes from the Czech story/play and means 'worker'. Most scientists define a robot being a machine that is operated by a computer and is able to many different jobs. Like many other machines robots are there to make our work easier, which they can do by moving materials, tools or other objects through programmed actions. A robot can be programmed to perform certain tasks, that can receive inputs, compute it, and then act out a desired behaviour or task as directed. It is a machine designed to execute one or more tasks repeatedly, with speed and precision. There are many different types of robots used to do many different types of tasks, but all these robots are narrowed down to their bare minimum and all have the same principal behind them. There are four main parts to a robot: the power supply, this provides all the electricity for the

Bedside table development evaluation

Development Evaluation Product Design Specification Criteria My Evaluative Comments My Client's Evaluative Comments PURPOSE: The purpose of the bedside table is allow somewhere for essential items to be stored and accessed at ease i.e. medicines, tablets etc. Also somewhere to store regular house hold items i.e. telephones, perfume bottles, books etc The chosen design accommodates somewhere for essential house holds items to be stored and accessed at ease because of the lightweight design and other features such as the pulling drawers make it easy to access items also the lightweight design would make the product relatively easy to move around the room. Product appears that essential items can be stored and accessed at ease FUNCTION & PERFORMANCE: > Suitable for the use of people aged 55 and over, as this is the target market I am designing for. > The height of the bedside table should be 635mm as this half way between the two most popular ranges I found from my research, a further 80mm should be added on to this height as is height of a standard bed plus the thickness of one standard pillow, so items do not get knocked off when arms are stretched out in bed, so the overall height of bedside table should be 715mm. > The width of table from side to side should be 500mm as this is approximately the correct range of space my target market would have

Research to aid designing an interactive toy of game for children. One of the most common interactive toys found in the market are the interactive plush toys. Popular brands are the Actimates Barney, Tickle Me Elmo,

COURSEWORK: AN INTERACTIVE TOY OR GAME Designing an Interactive Toy Overview The advantage of interactive toys as compared to others is the amount of response and interaction that takes place between the child and the toy. There is evidently an aspect of simulation that has gained the favor of many academics; according to Oravec (2000), these interactive toys have become learning instruments because they "stimulate children's imaginations and help them develop socially and intellectually". Hence, these toys have become significantly in demand especially for parents who want their child to start developing skills and intelligences while doing something recreational such as playing. Evidences of the importance of interactive technology in the context of development can be seen in the growing presence of computers in the classroom (Connolly & Airey, 2003). Technologies have become integrated in many toys found in the market today, from the wired to the wireless configurations to stand-alone toys to toys that have to be operated using the computer. Nonetheless, technology plays a central role in the development of interactive toys and games, and these designs have taken as far as toys showing significant (artificial) intelligence to toys merely providing entertainment to the child. However, despite the market's positive responses towards these interactive toys and

Design and Technology G.C.S.E. Coursework Evaluation Introduction: For my Design and Technology graphics project, I chose to design and build a model of a theatre because I am interested in drama and other aspects of theatre such as stage management and backstage work. Designing: During the last 2 years I have designed and built a model of a theatre. I chose to make this particular project because I love drama and act in shows with a local theatre group twice a year at the local theatre. During these shows though, I notice a few problems. Firstly, there isn't always enough room for the audience to sit comfortably. The rows of chairs are close together, with no proper legroom. There is also often not enough seating for everybody to see the performance that they want to see, and disabled access is not very good because most theatres use steps. Another problem I have noticed is that during many shows, the orchestra overflow from the small orchestra pit into the auditorium surrounding it, due to the fact that they cannot all squeeze into the cramped space. During this project, I aimed to solve these problems by; . spacing the seating so that there is enough leg room for the audience to sit comfortably 2. building a balcony for extra seating 3. having sloped flooring for wheelchair access and 4. having a large orchestra pit underneath the stage. I managed to achieve all

A Day in My Life.

Gareth Dell Monday 29th September 2003 1DST A Day in My Life My name's Gareth, I'm fifteen years of age and I live in Eastbourne. In this essay I will be talking about a day in my life, this day will be Friday. On a Friday, I wake up bright and early, this is normally seven o'clock. I then get dressed into my school uniform, which consists of black trousers, a bright white polo shirt and shiny black loafers. After making myself look presentable, I go downstairs and make breakfast, some days this is toast and on others it may be cereal, depending on what I'm in the mood for on that morning. At ten past eight I leave my front door and begin my short journey to my school, Eastbourne Technology College. Once I am at school I go to registration with my teacher, Mr Stewart, then I sit eagerly in my form room until my first lesson of the day, this begins at nine. My first two classes are double design and technology with Mr Butchers. This is one of my favourite subjects as I enjoy using the machines, experimenting with many various materials and learning new skills. Also, the projects are really fun, our last task was to manufacture a storage unit of our choice. For this, I carefully designed and neatly made a set of shelves to store CDs and ornaments in, however, this took about three months to complete, but it was well worth it as I was extremely happy with

How do people with special needs use technology

How do people with special needs use technology? Many people need technology in order to help them along with everyday life, therefore there has been a plentiful amount of Technology that has been created to assist the person with special needs. However there are disadvantages to these technologies and so there it will be possible to improve on these disadvantages. Calvin Liu is my friend and he is visually impaired. It is very irritating to be helpless due to his lack of vision. So in order to help him along, it is possible to purchase electronics to help him be more independent, socialize with his friend's and also to help him to work. Special Needs Person Using Technology Personally In the past few years the technology to assist people with special needs has increased dramatically. Now people can enjoy the same things as people who don't need special needs. My friend called Calvin Liu is visually impaired. There are things that can help them to be more independent, things such as mobile phones and speech recognition for computers. Mp3 Players These are very handy because it's a form of entertainment, rather than TV. Mp3 players are also light weight, so if he wants to go out and listen to it at the same time it would be good. At the same time he can use his walking sticks. Compared to CD players it is less bulky and it can carry more songs than a CD player. Most

Discuss how poets describe their attitude to place.

Discuss how poets describe their attitude to place. Poets often write about the place they live in or come from. I am going to examine how poets how poets express their relationship to a particular place while considering their intentions, how thoughts and feelings are expressed, the use of language, connections between different poems and include my personal response. In "Hotel Room, 12th Floor" Norman McCaig is writing about America. We know that he is more precisely writing about New York because he mentions the "Empire State Building" and the "Pan Am skyscraper". We know his place is America because he uses the word "sidewalks" which is essentially an American terminology for a footpath. McCaig is amazed by the technological achievements of the city in "Hotel Room, 12th Floor". He uses the simile "a helicopter skirting like a damaged insect" and the phrases "jumbo sized dentist's drill" and "glittering canyons and gulches" to express the sheer size of the city to reader. I think that the helicopter simile is successful because it gives the reader an idea of the size of the city; the helicopter is so small and delicate in comparison. I think that the phrase "jumbo sized dentist's drill" doesn't work very well because the object being described doesn't share as many characteristics with the object being used to describe it. In the sixth line of the first

Business Functional Areas - Cash's have three functional areas Design, Administration and Production.

Business Functional Areas Cash's have three functional areas Design, Administration and Production. The design department is an 'in house' and aims to develop a product to match customer's specification. Once a customer has placed an order on the internet, the design dept use a computer aided design (CAD) system exclusive to Cash's allowing a replica design or alteration to be made in minutes and reducing lead times to a couple of weeks. The production process is continuous 24/7 and comes after designing the main production system is called Camtex what's in the reflex program which is specifically designed for cash's to store design information such as colour, size, quantity, quality and the pattern number allocated to each design. A product code is allocated to each design, which distinguishes it from any other product. This system is used in both the designing and manufacturing of a product to track its progress through stages of production. There are several large Jacquard looms are computer controlled. Designs are processed by the Jacquard looms through the company's network. The looms themselves are set up manually. Administration is used for market resource taking orders and dealing with complaints from customers. All three of them work together to make Cash's a quality company and quality

Third world debt Vs Need for Technology

Third world debt Vs Need for Technology Background and underlying concepts: Many developing countries have very large debts accumulated since the 80's, and the amount of money that they owe is quickly increasing dramatically. Trying to pay off these debts has become a serious problem for these countries, as they now owe money to commercial banks and also to organisations like the World Bank, and the International Monetary Fund, and to First World governments. During the last fifteen years around $1.3 trillion was paid by the third world countries to the developed countries in the form of loan repayments and interest on the loans. Every month around $12 billion is passed on from economically poor counties to the developed countries in debt servicing. In sub-Saharan Africa, some countries spend almost half their national budget on financing debt owed to the rich western nations. This is the reason why these counties cannot invest in technology to develop their own country. The technology market is vast industry that is always changing with time. It is estimated that around 5.5 billion people do not have access to technology such as the Internet, as computer are to expensive for these people. While over half of the UK households are online, only 0.1% of homes in Bangladesh and India have access to the Internet. As this was a huge concern a company based in India produce a low

In this part of the evaluation I have commented the good points about each sheet and also what I have done and what could I do to improve it. Brief and analysis This sheet I think I have done quite well because I've evaluated the brief and analysed it and I have also planned out how I'm going to work efficiently to complete by the dead line. I could improve a bit by giving more detailed tasks to follow to successfully carry out the project. Plan of action I have made a nice flow chart to show the path that I will be following to complete the project. I have also made a table to show all the pieces of works and all the dead line for completion. I could have labelled and talked about the sheet a bit better because it's looking a bit plain. Existing Products I think I have done this sheet very well because I have a wide range of different types of lights from table to ceiling, On my descriptions I could have made it more about the style and the lamp itself because I used it mostly opinions about them. Possible / Target user Could have made a profile of my other target users eg. Family with picture I just didn't have any pictures of them to print off and use. Also it looks a bit dull so a bit more annotations it would look good. I did a nice spider diagram and questionnaire and I managed to find a target user and completed everything so I didn't do that badly. Mood
