Stress is defined as a physiological or physical response to the change in the environment around us, individuals experience stress day in day out.

Stress can be harmful to us this is know as distress. The other form of stress is eustress, this form of stress can be beneficial, as some people react better under pressure and is also known as the ‘fight or flight’ response.

Holmes & Rahe Conclusions

Holmes and Rahe, stated that any change in the routine of our lives, even changes for the better, can cause stress, this can be measured by the rate of death or illness following 12 months onwards from any major change in routine. The Holmes-Rahe Scale has values based on the sample being told that marriage represents 50 points, attributed by a sample of 394 individuals to the life events concerned.
