He would decorate the trees himself with sweets, wax dolls, strings of almonds and raisins, and candles, which were lit on Christmas Eve for the distribution of presents, relit on Christmas Day, after which the tree was then moved to another room until Twelfth Night. Traditionally gifts were laid out on linen-covered tables beside the tree.
Then there was Charles Dickens the author of a great novel “The Christmas Carol” at this point now one new of him but his name would become well known in the near future. This was a man who hates the Victorians and the evil ways that they reflected off Queen Victoria. The Victorians made money out of the industrial revelation masses of it and some just didn’t, Charles Dickens lived in a time of Poverty and found life very hard. He Experienced the Victorians lifestyle and the hoe they were selfish and had a deep greed.
Dickens realised the poor were desperately trying to keep there jobs but were just not being forgiven the low cost machinery were replacing them. His farther had been sent to debtor prison and dickens was sent to a blacking factory in London. His experience from an earlier age made him review his future.
Dickens introduced Scrooge in the novel “ A Christmas Carol” he had used this character in his novel because he reflected the Victorians and made the novel a very Victorian piece. Dickens decided to use Scrooge as rich broker because the rich were the most evil of all dickens thought as his thought was well supported im sure was that the rich should be equal with the poor. He purposely made scrooge not this type of guy. We first saw scrooge as this evil non forgiving broker when the charity worker came to his office and begged for a mere few pence but scrooge wisent having any.
That Night Scrooge was to go home and fine a surprise, Normally he sits down in the dark by the fire with his pipe and his tea but not tonight, he hears the bell ring and is very disturbed, for once the reader see a picture of scrooge quite scared, he open the front door and no one is to be seen. Scrooge sits back down in his chair by the fire and then scrooge hears noise like whistling, the ghost of Marley appears.
Marley was scrooge partner, Marley tort scrooge everything he knew in the broker business.
A hole length of events were about to happen to scrooge but all for a reason, Marley is there because he has ended up in hell because of scrooges sins Marley tells scrooge
“repair your sins and I will be unlocked from the gates of hell”
Marley told scrooge what was to happen and that the first ghost to appear when the clock strikes twelve. Marley disappears and scrooge light all the lanterns and goes to bed, Scrooge was woken by the chime of the clock it was time, Scrooge was blinded by a bright light it appeared to be a small girl it was the ghost of Christmas past. The ghost told scrooge to “come with me” Scrooge went.
The ghost led scrooge to his old school where he saw all his friends. Dickens was to show the reader scrooges past and scrooge saw his head master he tort him a lot about growing up and getting into business.
After scrooge had been reminded about his school life and how life was great. The ghost took scrooge to his old work place Mr Fizzy wigs. Scrooge found his first love at Mr f Christmas party. It may seem untrue but scrooge was very much in love but his love for money was to sting for true love. There relationship was a failure and ended.
The ghost of Christmas past made scrooge feel something but he wasn’t quite sure what it was quite yet.
Scrooge remembered what having fun was all about and how good life was in those fun and happy times. People do like scrooge but his evil ways have caught up with him.
Scrooge was left and the ghost of Christmas present appeared. This ghost was to show him his nephews family and he saw them putting him down which upset him and he realised what he had become, his nephew was having fun with all his family and enjoying Christmas which scrooge hadn’t ever been a part of.
The ghost took scrooge to the beggar which was pleading for money and the reason for this was to show scrooge what he had done to this poor helpless man.
The Ghosts of Christmas future appears and the first thing he does is takes scrooge to the grave of Tiny Tim Scrooge breaks down and cry’s he know new that what he had done he was ashamed of him self. The ghost took scrooge to his own grave and scrooge is now very scared, scrooge asked the ghost “if this is the future then if I change what happens in the past the future will not be what it is” now he had woken up in his new life he made good with all his enemy and was now a happy cheerful man that all the town loved. Dickens has got his message though with this novel and as I think he has got the message though of what the Victorian times were like.
