My database is on a video rental shop.

Introduction: My database is on a video rental shop. My uncle Ronnie has been recording his data all by hand since 1982. He now wants to modernise his shop and record his video rental details on to the computer. He has asked me to create a database this will be created using Microsoft Access and this is my report on how the database was created. What will the database enable you to do when you to do? This database will enable me to: * See who took out the video * Which video they have taken out * When it is due back * If they paid or not * It will also let me focus more on the important aspects of the business, as the renting information will be much easier to access rather than me always writing the customers details when they rent a video from my shop. What data is needed? For this database to work well I will have to collect the following the data. * Information on the videos I will be renting out i.e. names, rating, and id number. * Customer details i.e. names, address, telephone, and id number. * Lastly data on renting, which will include all the data and also the date in and date out. To produce this front page I had to go to form and select new: After this you must pick design view from the choices given. You cab then add buttons by selecting it from the tool bar. From here you can also give it commands. 3. Describe the tables and relationships

Hire Shop - creating a database.

Hire Shop Article I. Description of task. I'm going to make my shop a musical hire shop. I'll base the project on a local shop that hires out musical instruments, PA systems, lights and amplification systems. The database will be for the owner of the musical hire shop. It will tell him what has been hired out, who has hired it and it will also identify if someone has still got hired out equipment although there time has ran out. At the moment the shop does use a computer which stores the information about what is hired out and who has got it. It's stored as a list, not as a database. I think a database is a lot easier to use and information is easy to access. It will help run the shop more efficiently and information will be shown quicker and easier. Analysis I interviewed the owner of Faversham's local musical hire shop to find out what the shop does and how everything is stored on its computers. I asked if he would benefit from a new database system designed specially for his shop. He told me that a database system would be a lot faster and easier for him to gain efficient information about the customers and what they have hired from the shop. For the full conversation please see appendix A. I e-mailed a questionnaire to the shop, which mainly included what the users of the system want from the database. It showed that the users want an easily

Managing a bar with spreadsheets.

Managing a Bar with Spreadsheets My project will be based on the College Coffee Bar. I will be designing and constructing a spreadsheet that shall assist the owner or manager of the business. The spreadsheet should allow users to store data such as, items being sold, selling and buying costs. It should also make it easy to calculate profits and losses over a period of time. At the moment the company record their data by hand as they do not have a computer. They store these written files in a large cabinet, which take up large amount of space. The company also find it hard to locate specific files/records. As these are written on paper, they can be easily damaged or lost, and can be difficult to transport from place to place. What I am planning to do should be a radical improvement in reflection with the currant method they are using. Here are my tasks and subtasks in order of which I will complete them: Ø To do this I shall have to create a data capture sheet. I think the easiest and most reliable sources of gaining this information required is to interview Elain Ridgeway and Mrs Sawford who both organise catering for school lunches and special events such as concerts. Ø To make this successful I will firstly have to find out what businesses are currently using so I know what I have to better, I will also be able to ask their views and what they think it should include.

Produce a spreadsheet for a successful and potential company "Belle Du Jour".

Description of task In this project I will produce a spreadsheet for a successful and potential company "Belle Du Jour". The company sells products for special occasions such as wedding dresses, bridesmaid dresses, evening dresses and prom dresses etc. They also sell a range of jewelry and accessories for these special occasions. A spreadsheet will be beneficial to this company as they are very enthusiastic about expanding the successful service they provide customers, but at the moment they are not sure whether this is financially possible. The spreadsheet will help them keep track of their finances in a easy to use format. They would like to expand their business by opening a series of shops in the south east of London. This spreadsheet can supervise Belle Du Jour's finances. This will help to keep track of how much is gained and how much is spent. It will allow us to see how much the company's sales are increasing after the website has been uploaded to the internet. I will be looking to include the following features in my design: * A series of linked sheets involving the company's finances. This will make it easier to manage. The finances are clearer to read when they are on separate sheets. * A summary page of the current financial situation. Formal Report for Task3

Formal Report for Task3 Introduction I am reporting about the documents I have produced in the run-up to the opening of El Tapas Bar, the launch of El Tapas Bar and work on documents produced after the opening of the Restaurant. I produced a variety of documents prior to the opening, including an agenda for a business meeting, minutes of the meeting, internal memos relating to the new Company. Then I produced menus for the new Restaurant, an Adult's lunchtime and evening menu, a children's lunchtime and evening menu and a specials menu for both. I produced advertisements for a Manager and a new Head Chef. I produced an article about the restaurant as though I was a food critic. I produced a newsletter as though I was the editor and writers for the Manchester Catering Guild. Findings: For each of the documents, I have initially created a template for the item, and saved it either in My Documents if I was using Word or Excel or in My Templates if I was using Publisher. Then to create each document, I opened the template and produced each individual document. I saved each task in a logical file structure so I could easily find each document. I reviewed each document at the end for any spelling mistakes or grammatical errors or for anything I had missed out. I used Read & Write Gold to correct any spelling mistakes. I have evidenced this in my evidence file with annotated

Chapter 1: Identification The Aim of the Project A The aim of my project is to make the task of the allocation of seats in a theatre in a much more efficient manner than writing down on a piece of paper, which will allow calculations to be taken to show the overall costs against profit for the whole show. This will also allow the spreadsheet to also take into account the fixed costs of show, the projected profits from program sales, confectionery sales and other miscellaneous costs and profits from the show and quickly and efficiently calculate them. Background A Mr Brown, owner of Brown Theatres puts shows on fairly frequently, so he requires a simple solution, that is quick and easy to adapt to and simple to understand. The problems faced by him is that the current solution is to write down all the information by hand and use a calculator to work out costs, expenses and profit. He wants the solution to be able to do all this in and instant, and in a simple, understandable format. Mr Brown also believes that this new system will allow his company to expand, and become more profitable, he believes that this new, efficient way of calculating will allow him to accurately calculate everything he needs in a matter of seconds. Alternative strategies for solving the problem A/B Non-ICT solution The non-ICT solution would be similar to one Mr Brown uses at the moment, that

Analysis Appropriate Software To do this project I am going to use excel because it has a number of different features that I can use. For example, I can use data validation, conditional formatting, protection and most important of all- formulae, which will enable me to manipulate different values which means I can easily see the effect certain prices will have on my profit/loss. The validation will ensure that incorrect values which could affect the profit/loss are not inserted as this could affect the sales. Conditional formatting is useful as it enables the important values on the spreadsheet to be easily read. Protection is another important feature of excel as it means I can protect my sheet from changes that anyone may make. For obvious reasons I feel that Excel is the appropriate software to use. Appropriate Hardware As far as the hardware is concerned the spreadsheet will be needed to be saved on a new computer as older ones may not have enough space on the hard disk. I would recommend a Dell computer as it has a large internal memory of 200GB and as it is especially designed for professional purposes such as ours. A wireless keyboard and mouse would be useful as well as this would reduce the amount of wires meaning the whole affaire will look more organised. A printer will be essential as printing spreadsheets and graphs will be a task which is undertaken often.
