Description of a database and it's features!

Description of a database and it's features! A database can become very helpful for many people, especially if the person has their own business or responsibilities to look after a lot of information, that they require to look at every now and then. By using a database, you can make it possible for yourself to search for various information quickly and easily. A database has to consist of many relations, so that all the information in the database can link together and be searched for easily. Data is arranged into various tables (preferably two or more), and as I have mentioned above, the data is linked together with the aid of relations. With a database various searches and reports can be produced based on the needs of the user. This is extremely flexible and can save space by avoiding duplication. Each table in a database is made up of fields and records. Fields have different formats depending on the type of data they store. Examples of various kinds of fields and their formats:- Type of data- text, category- Basic - Mixed letters and/or numbers, What is included in it- Up to 255 characters (letters and/or number codes). Number: -Integer- Whole numbers between -32,768 and +32,767 -Long Integer- Whole numbers between -2,147,483,648 and +2,147,483,647 -Byte- Whole positive numbers between 0 and 255 -Single- Any number (accurate to 7 significant figures)

What is a computer registry?

What is a computer registry? The Registry is a database full of files of how to configure your system. It can be used for one or more uses. It was invented as a result of DOS not being good enough to hold all configuration files so it was invented to improve the efficiency and speed of the computer. It is nowhere near perfect yet but hopefully, will improve in the future. There is a programme to clear up any unnecessary files within this database which gets rid of any unwanted files. Without the Registry, the computer would not be able to function properly. The Registry can hold information about what is in the computer such as the hard drive and graphics cards. The other information it has is what documents you can collate, the personal settings, e.g., background, mouse settings and colour schemes and also it has the programmes which are on the computer, such as Word and Google Chrome. The Spyware and Viruses and the rights of these, changes your Registry for malicious purposes, so Anti Virus and the other Anti programmes work on the principal that there shouldn't be any unauthorised access to the Registry and that its own databases of all malicious programmes has helped to identify the unwanted programmes. The Registry is a database and within the database it has pre-defined keys, such as HKey_Users which have the relevant files for the active user. If one user

Selecting the best software for a theatre business.

Introduction Bob Dixon owns a small Theatre in Woodford Green, it is called "Woodford Green Theatre". His theatre is not the best in London but it is highly rated. He has 1 theatre and hosts 1 show every month. His theatre may be quite small but it is old and worth a lot of money, a lot of the theatre has been refurbished and made more modern, but the only thing still not up to date is his way of working.. Since he opened the theatre he has used a paper based system for everything. He has used it for financial records and writing out the tickets and everything in between. He needs a computer to, have an automated system of seating, and to keep record of booked tickets and seats. Problem Identified The problem with Bob's way of keeping record is that he uses a paper based system and he has to file this all the time, if he loses one piece of paper he can be really be in trouble. On a paper based system he has to calculate on his own, if he changes a number he will have to re-do the whole sheet again. And if he loses something he will not be able to get an accurate result in any area and this could mean that he thinks he has a profit when he actually has a loss. If he keeps his paper based system he will have a lot of trouble in the future and will find it hard to show his records. If he keeps the paper based system then he possibly may need to employ a new person just

Project 1b; Film Database

Introduction This project will be about creating a database for a fictional video shop. I will have the aim to help the staff of this business by creating a database of videos/DVD's using current information from local Video stores, leaflets, newspapers and the internet. The database will help me to find out current information on which video or DVD has which features. The database will function as the basis of finding Videos and DVDs that are currently available in the store. Such a database is much more convenient, than one that is based on paper, since it is much quicker and is less susceptible to human error than a database that is based on paper. If the staff of the video shop did not have a database, severe problems would occur as the staff does not know which films are currently in stock and it is very likely that the needs of customers are not satisfied in time. E.g. a customer requests a movie for her son, but because the staff has not got the information where the video is and which videos are suitable it takes the member of staff about five minutes which results in the customer leaving without purchasing a movie. The following questions could have been asked by a member of staff or a customer that need to be answered by using the database: * Which films are in stock that are not more than three years old? * What action movies are there for my 12-year-old-son? *

Database Report

Database Report Introduction A database contains a collection of information organised in such a way that a computer program can quickly select pieces of data. You can think of a database as an electronic filing system. A field is a single piece of information; a record is one complete set of fields; and a file is a collection of records. For example, a telephone book is analogous to a file. It contains a list of records, each of which To access information from a database, you need a database management system. This is a collection of programs that enables you to enter, organize, and select data in a database. I am creating a database to hold the information of a Video/DVD shop e.g. customer id, customer name, customers surname, address etc. People use database because it's a new and advanced way to keep information unlike having information on paper. Using database is quicker to access information where as having information stored on paper it would take time to access it. It is a suitable place where information can't be lost, can be easily retrieved, and easy to edit information. The database I have created is about a video/DVD renting shop (Video &DVD EXPRESS), that is renting videos and DVDs to people and I have to create a database to show how many people have created a account, how many videos and DVDs they have, and customer details. There are two user

GNVQ intermediate ict unit 4

GNVQ ICT Unit 4 Report Unit 4 Project proposal Jermaine Carthy Project Title Athletics Championship scoring system The purpose of this project is to meet the needs of the person I am going to talk identify below. My description of what the user needs: My user keeps the scores at an athletics championship. At this point of time the scores are kept on paper this can be a problem because the paper can be easily lost and damaged, it is difficult to make back up copies because of it been on paper. This also results in calculating manually, so this slow down the process and may result with inaccurate information. What I am going to do about this is replace this system with an electronic one where all the function/calculations will be taken place on a PC or a lap-top. This piece of hardware will need to be able to run excel 2000 or any other excel preferable a later version. Also it will need to have the capacity to save and back up these system files I create. Furthermore it will need a printer to print out graphs of the information that is created. There is a need to print out graphs because information is easier to comprehend and the graphic presentation will make a quick analysis easier for the coaches and the organisers of the championship. As the user might not have a lot of knowledge of ICT I will create a user guide to help them through the process of scoring using

I want to design a database that will allow faster and easier sales of cars, it will also help organise them too.

Contents page Section Page > > > > > > > > Car Database project I want to design a database that will allow faster and easier sales of cars, it will also help organise them too. Before I design a database I need to find out what information I will need to include in my database, to this I will produce a questionnaire, which will be sent out to several garages in my local area. When I get the questionnaire results I will then design my database around the wants and needs of other garages I am going to produce a database that will allow salespersons to use a PC to speed up the search process for the customer. If the customer is searching for a particular type of car, i.e. make, model, mileage, year of manufacture. The database, which I have created, will allow the sales person to search for a car meet the customer's requirements. I am doing this because it will be much easier for the salesperson to find a car, which will meet the customer's requirements. Implementation You must use the software to process and store data entered from the questionnaire for required output. You need to produce a report, which describes in simple steps how you created the database using the selected software. This will match your design. Printouts and screen shots are required and the data has to match the data collected from the data capture sheets (one from each

Spreadsheet coursework Identify Joe Scott is the entrepreneur of a new company selling sports goods. He has been a successful trader in Newbury for 3 years now. He is now looking for a new system to help him with the Business'. Expenditures. Up to now, he has been doing it manually on a form and keeping it in a folder. Joes Business is starting to do increasingly well, and he is looking to save some time. He feels that making a computerised accounting system will decrease the time he spends every month writing out all the expenditures for the month. Really though, he wants to make a computerised cash flow for his business. His main objectives therefore are: * To save time. He wants a much faster way of doing this because he feels it is getting very tedious to write up a list of products and prices each month. * To improve presentation. He thinks it is getting too messy as he is writing is manually. * He feels that if this way of accounting continues, it will become very space consuming after a few years, which is where a computer can help. Therefore, he feels that a computerised system will help him solve these problems What I need in the software I will use: *A table needs to be constructed. Information needs to be stored in cells, organised either by columns or rows. *An easy way to enter lots of similar data. Like a copy & paste function. *A calculations function.

Hire Shop - creating a database.

Hire Shop Article I. Description of task. I'm going to make my shop a musical hire shop. I'll base the project on a local shop that hires out musical instruments, PA systems, lights and amplification systems. The database will be for the owner of the musical hire shop. It will tell him what has been hired out, who has hired it and it will also identify if someone has still got hired out equipment although there time has ran out. At the moment the shop does use a computer which stores the information about what is hired out and who has got it. It's stored as a list, not as a database. I think a database is a lot easier to use and information is easy to access. It will help run the shop more efficiently and information will be shown quicker and easier. Analysis I interviewed the owner of Faversham's local musical hire shop to find out what the shop does and how everything is stored on its computers. I asked if he would benefit from a new database system designed specially for his shop. He told me that a database system would be a lot faster and easier for him to gain efficient information about the customers and what they have hired from the shop. For the full conversation please see appendix A. I e-mailed a questionnaire to the shop, which mainly included what the users of the system want from the database. It showed that the users want an easily
