A report on the litter problem at St. Teilo's Church in Wales high school.

A report on the litter problem at St. Teilo's Church in Wales high school The head of St. Teilos Church in Wales high school, Mr. Timothy Pratt, asked me, as a representative of the school council, to research the issue of litter inside and outside of the school premises and report my findings. To do this I used evidence not only from my own observations during my five years of being a pupil at the school, but from the interviews I carried out with people who work and play in the areas affected by this problem. I was asked to write this report since the problem, which had been ongoing for quite a while, had been brought to the attention of the headmaster following several complaints from the neighbours around the school play areas. I decided that since the play areas seemed to be some of the worst affected by the problem, I would concentrate on speaking to the people who were being affected by it - mainly the people who had made complaints to the school. I then spoke to the pupils who regularly used these areas to see if they had any suggestion as to what could be done about the problem. Firstly I looked at the lower yard. This yard is mostly used by groups of boys from all years playing football. I t currently has three bins placed around the edge of the yard, however, these are moveable and were regularly used as goalposts therefore being knocked over spilling the

I believe that women are less threatening and more polite in conversation with members of the opposite sex than men. Discuss

Hypothesis I believe that women are less threatening and more polite in conversation with members of the opposite sex than men. I believe that the female 'host' of the television show in my study, will exhibit more sympathetic speech by using parataxis, which is the use of connected main clauses, and other features that researchers such as Deborah Tannen have associated with female speech. Introduction I decided to study the differences between male and female speech because I am interested in gender differences that I have studied in my course. This investigation is intended to prove my hypothesis, to do this I have decided to take two television talk show hosts, one male, and one female. The shows are aired at around the same time and would attract the same audience. By analysing the conversations of the talk show hosts I can define if the female host is more polite and less threatening towards her guests and audience than her male counterpart. The topic of language and gender is and has always been an important part of the English language. It reflects quite significantly on the way men and women communicate at the particular period in time, for example thanks to literature from the past we know that females, when married still called their husbands sir. However, due to movements such as the suffragettes and the women's rights movement the gender and language gap have

Examine the reasons for changes in the educational attainment of males and females in recent years

Examine the reasons for changes in the educational attainment of males and females in recent years In this essay, the reasons for the changes that have occurred in recent years in regards to the educational attainment of males and female will be looked at. Evidence seems to suggest that females outperform males in schools. There are various reasons for this, which will be examined in the essay. Mitsos and Browne are a few of the many sociologists that believe that boys are underachieving more than girls, even though they also believe that girls are disadvantaged. The fact that boys are doing worse than boys is shown in the SATs results where girls are doing better than boys. Girls are also outperforming boys at every GCSE subject except for physics. Mitsos and Browne have identified five main reasons of why girls have improved in recent years. One reason is that women's movement and feminism have achieved success in improving the rights and raising expectation and self esteem of women. Women are more likely to aspire to top jobs that are well paid and are therefore more motivated to be good in education. Another reason is that sociologists have highlighted some of the disadvantages, which led to opportunity being developed for girls to improve opportunities. The increase in the service sector jobs, considered mostly suitable for women, and the decline in predominantly

GCSE maths statistics coursework

GCSE maths statistics coursework For my maths statistics coursework I am going to be comparing the height and weight of the pupils at Mayfield High School. I will compare height and weight because it is continuous data. Firstly I will take a sample of 5% of the 1183 pupils which will be 59 samples. I think that the taller the person the heavier he or she is. I will take the sample by pressing the random button on the calculator and taking the sample which is equivalent to that number. The table below shows the samples that I got. no. height weight 6 .77 54 832 .66 66 48 .65 45 813 .75 56 852 .55 64 783 .61 52 31 .50 70 911 .70 50 252 .58 65 354 .55 64 504 .48 40 538 .58 48 2 .57 53 272 .75 55 344 .45 51 894 .62 52 046 .71 54 990 .74 50 48 .65 45 314 .64 42 531 .43 41 131 .61 59 333 .78 50 718 .59 64 445 .72 53 853 .75 57 654 .58 58 13 .63 47 27 .56 53 162 .76 56 503 .70 52 610 .74 70 881 .32 45 801 .52 33 43 .52 37 711 .72 42 061 .68 58 32 .52 52 377 .70 42 642 .71 68 391 .59 44 317 .60 41 12 .62 40 934 .79 72 98 .62 54 656 .61 35 929 .63 54 262 .75 60 737 .60 74 636 .53 47 923 .68 50 939 .80 72 22 .80 62 334 .53 40 545 .64 47 656 .61 35 865 .63 48 534 .71 40 43 .62 48 007 .66 63 I will

GCSE Maths Statistics Coursework For my maths statistics coursework I am going to be comparing the height and weight of the pupils at Mayfield High School. I will compare height and weight because it is continuous data. Firstly I will take a sample of the data. To get a sample of my data I will tell the spreadsheet to assign a random number to each set of data and then display the data in order of these numbers, I will then chose the top 50 rows of data as my sample. I have chosen this method because it is completely random and easy to do. I will avoid choosing a biased sample by randomising the order of the data again if the sample appears to be biased. If I find outliers in my sample, I will still use them in my investigation. This will be I think that the taller the person the heavier he or she is. Height and weight

General Introduction I am going to try and prove both hypotheses by comparing the data in numerous ways. I was given as a secondary source that has been sorted out into categories the data is about a fictitious school but contained real data. There are 1200 pupils at Mayfield school with 18 headers of data overall I was given 21600 datum points and have edited out information that will not be used in these inquiries for example 'Distance from home to school'. I will also need to delete rows that are missing out data which I need for example if someone doesn't have their height marked into the database that row with that persons information will need to be deleted. Therefore from starting with 1200 pupils and taking away 21 students that are missing data I am left with 1179 as an overall sample. I will be taking a sample of all 1179 students ii is important that the spread is large so that the fairer the random sample will be therefore I will take around 60 students. Hypotheses Hypothesis 1 'The People that watch the most television weigh more then the people that watch less television.' Hypothesis 2 'There is a relationship between height and weight.' Hypothesis 1 'The variation in the amount of hours spent watching television; the students of Mayfield School watch a lot of television.' First I must get a random sample of all the data otherwise the relationship will

height and weight

Mathematics Coursework- Handling Data- Mayfield High In this investigation, I am going to look at the relationship between height and weight. I am then going to investigate further and see if this differs between boys and girls. I have chosen to look at height and weight mainly beacuse in this line of enquiry, my data will be numerical, meaning that I will be to produce a more detailed analysis. For example, if I had chosen to look at eye colour and hair coulour I would be limited to what I could do. My aim in this investigation is to see if there is a correlation between height and weight and to see if this varies between genders. I think that as the student gets taller they will weigh more. I also think that generally boys are taller than girls, if this is true, according to what I have said above, they should be heavier too. Although I believe this will generally be the case, I do expect to see some anomalous results because there are so many personal factors that can affect height and weight. The Mayfield high database that I am using is secondary data. The data that I will be using for height and weight is continuous data. This will effect which graphs I choose to use as the data will not be a set value but within a range. I have decided to take a random sample of the whole school. This may not be as accurate as perhaps looking at just key stage four or a

Height and weight of pupils

Handling data Coursework September 2004 I am carrying out an investigation to analyse a sample of data containing the height and weight of Year 10 & 11 boys and girls at Mayfield high school. I am using the data from Mayfield high school as I am unable to use data from Nabwood School. This is because although the school has a database system, information regarding height and weight of year 10 and 11 students will not be accurate as it was taken when students came to the school in year 7, which was three or four years ago (if they are now in years 10 and 11). Therefore to try and update the database with the latest height and weight of year 10 and 11 students would be difficult and time consuming, and I do not have very much time to complete the investigation. Using a secondary source (Mayfield high school) which already happens to have accurate and up - to date data will be much easier to use but also will give more accurate results or conclusions to this investigation. The aim is to find connections, links, similarities or differences between heights and weight of boys and girls in years 10 and 11 at Mayfield high school. The sample which will be analysed is:- 29 Males in year 10 25 females in year 10 23 Males in year 11 23 females in year 11 These numbers have been taken randomly without any bias or unfairness. They were selected by simply and randomly giving

Height and weight of pupils

Statistics Coursework Introduction The data that we are going to use is secondary data that has been collected from a high school. It is made up of a collection of qualitative and quantitative variables . This also includes both discrete and continuous data. The data is in the form of a spreadsheet, making it easy to identify the required information for the investigation. I am using this secondary data as it would be easier than collecting primary data myself. This would take a very long time, and using secondary data will not affect the results of my investigation if I emit any obvious mistakes in the given data. These may affect the accuracy of the investigation and could occur if, for example, the person typing up the data made a typing error or one people in the population may have misunderstood a question or answered incorrectly. The line of enquiry that I have chosen to use is the relationship between the height and weight of different pupils in the high school. To investigate this I will need the following data about the members of the population... ? Year group - discrete quantitative data ? Gender - discrete qualitative data ? Height - continuous quantitative data ? Weight - continuous quantitative data I will delete the rest of the data as it is not needed in my investigation. I will then sort the relevant data into groups of year group, gender etc. in order

Handling data.

Handling Data Coursework By Fezan Shakir Introduction I plan to look at mental and physical differences between the boys and girls in Year 7 to Year 11. I will look at the physical differences by looking at their height and weight. I will look at the boys and girls mental differences by observing their IQ results. Hopefully I will look at the heights of year 7 and year 11 boys and girls. Also I will compare the IQ results for boys and girls from year 7 - 11. Then finally I will look at the relationships between weight and height for year 11 boys and girls. Prediction I predict that the girls in year 7 will be taller than the boys in year 7 because I think that girls have a growth spurt earlier than boys but usually stop growing in height when they are about 15 - 17 years old. But in year 11 I expect that the boys will be much taller than the girls because the boys usually have a growth spurt after year 7 and carry on growing until they are 18 - 21 years old. Girls usually stop growing along time before the boys. I'm expecting that the girls will have higher IQ results because last years GCSE results showed that the girls had a higher average than the boys. I reckon that the boys will be taller and heavier in year 11 because boys carry on growing much after when the girls stop growing and boys usually tend to weigh more because males usually have more muscle which
