Although the kiwi bird and the white rhino live in completely different environment, they are both experiencing a loss of habitat. As a matter a fact, the worlds climate is changing therefore, many changes are appearing in every part of the planet. Furthermore, the water level is rising, forests and jungle are dying because of pollution, and deserts are becoming dryer. As a result, for the past years, New Zealand witnessed a massive deforestation in order to build cities and that killed many kiwis. On the other hand, Africa is known to be a third world country and many industries are moving in and to do so, they are chasing away and killing many animals. Unfortunately, the white rhino likes to live in one place, which is usually next to an oasis or a lake and since half of the industries tries to settle next to water, these animals are extremely at risk. In addition, the dune land ecosystem is reducing and since the kiwi birds are ferociously territorial, they are dying. Also, the heat is increasing because of pollution and with the temperature rising, the water is drying in Africa and that leaves the rhinos without water.
Loss of habitat is not the only reason of the disappearance of these animals. Predators are killing these creatures, “nature’s circle of life”. The white rhino and the kiwi bird both face a race for survival due to predators. Nevertheless, the kiwi bird faces a bigger problem because half of their eggs fail, predators eat them. In addition stoats kill most of the chicks, as for the adults; they are hunt by dogs and ferrets. In the other hand, white rhinos are more capable of defending them self since they are much bigger and have a unique solid body texture. On the contrary to the adults, lioness, lions, and tigers eat baby rhinos. A herd of lions, Haynes and desert white wolfs, who are known to be very dangerous, attacks sometimes adults and that leaves these creatures defenseless. Besides predators, these poor animals are being hunt down for fun; many of these predators were put purposely in kiwi’s territory so that they can kill them. Sometimes wild pigs are unleashed so that they can eat kiwi’s nest and that the predators can exterminate this endangered specie.
Stronger animals and bigger animals are not the only predators, humans are as guilty as lions, wolfs, wild pigs, ferrets, etc. Haunting is another major problem that the two species face. Humans are responsible for this climate change and the deforestation that is causing these creatures to disappear. For many years, New Zealand and Africa were countries inhabited by jungles, forests, lakes, rivers and greenery. Furthermore, these nature’s wonders use to be home to many tribes until civilization interfered. Moreover, the West brought with them machines and diseases and that played a major role in the killing of these fascinating animals. In Africa, many tribes use to hunt the white rhino in order to retrieve their tusks and skin to use them for weapons. Nowadays, hunters are slaughtering these animals in order to sell their valuable, priceless body parts. In New Zealand the kiwi bird is sacred in many tribes “Maoris”. They intend to defend them and worship them. Nevertheless, this does not stop the fact that many of these birds are run over by cars and trucks.
To summarize, kiwi birds and white rhinos are two species at risk of being extinct. Although kiwi birds number is decreasing over the years, white rhinos are almost wiped out because of their worth. Ivory is a very successful material in the black market sale. It is my opinion that white rhinos are very precious animals; moreover, it is a shame to kill them for money or for fun. I believe that they are at greater risk of being extinct and in order to stop that, I reckon that it is better to let the government take action so that these animals are rescued. However, many organization and communities already started taking action and according to statistics, these actions are slightly effective.
