bowling for columbine

Bowling for Columbine Michael Moore made this documentary to influence our opinion on whether we think guns are beneficial for protection or a justification to shoot someone. The film starts out as Moore goes to the bank and has an interview with a banker; civilians can get a gun at no cost from the bank if they register for an account. He later went to the barbers for a haircut and discovered that he could purchase bullets there! America is saturated with guns since the people of America have lived in fear since they sailed there thousands of years ago. It is stated in the law book that anyone over the age of 18 has the right to own a gun. Moore tells us and interesting but bloodcurdling fact about gun related deaths in different countries were; In Germany 381 people are killed a year, In France 255 In Canada 165 In Britain 68 In Australia 65 In Japan 39 In America 11,127 PEOPLE ARE KILLED A YEAR!!! This is a huge number just for gun deaths. But who is to blame for all these gun crimes and deaths? The Media? The President of the USA? Marilyn Manson? Bowling? (This is a joke that Moore makes during the film because that is what the two boys did before they killed all those children at Columbine school). He leaves you to decide but hints that it could be all 3! Marilyn Manson comes into the picture because he got sued for

Why did a stalemate develop on the Western Front?

Why did a stalemate develop on the Western Front? A stalemate is a situation where neither of the opposing parties can progress or do any further action. Often defence is stronger than attack on both sides and there is usually no way to break the deadlock. This is what happened when The Schlieffen Plan failed. Instead of the Germans racing out of France and back to Germany, they chose to "dig in". Trenches were dug over 700km, reaching from the sea to the Swiss border. There are many reasons why either side could not advance on the Western Front, thus resulting in a stalemate. One of the most important was machine guns. The guns, such as the Vickers or Maxim were ideally suited for defence. Once set up this colossal firepower could fire 660 rounds per minute. Any attacker would easily be cut to shreds if they tried to break the stalemate. Unfortunately these guns were useless in the offensive as they took three men to carry around; one carrying the tripod, one carrying the gun itself and other for the ammunition. If the men were successful and managed to find a suitable place to set up the machine, it would take two or three minutes to set it up and in No-Man's Land those three minutes could mean life or death. It was impossible to move the gun and fire simultaneously. Another key factor in a stalemate was barbed wire. This was coiled around wooden posts and

Laura Hogg Thursday 8th September 2005 'The Assassin' He crept as silently as night, eyes fixed on his pray. His swift action allowed him to stay hidden. Inching slowly but expertly towards the house, he avoided any possible danger. Carefully hidden, he starts to lift the gun, positioning it carefully. Aiming it towards the front door of the house, knowing that's where his victim would park. He sat there in the dark waiting for his victim. The chilled air ran through his spine and the wet grass glistened in the moonlight. A few feet from where he was sitting was the house. It was a modern house with thick glass windows impossible to smash. The bright lights on in the hallway cast shadows in every corner. A good night, he thought, for what would come later. He heard a soft crunching sound in the distance. He turned towards the driveway, he could see the familiar red car creeping back up towards the house. Eventually the car stopped just outside the front door, just as he thought it would, and the driver turned off the engine with a quick twist of the wrist. There was a moment of silence as the driver collected his briefcase from the front passenger seat. Suddenly there was a click of the dented car door, then the driver stepped out of the car. This was his chance, he had been waiting hours for this moment and finally it had

London's Gun Crime Set to Rise by 100% this Year.

Vishal Sookur London's Gun Crime Set to Rise by 100% this Year London has seen a significant rise in gun crime over the years following the Dunblane massacre in 1997, and as a result, London's streets are getting ever more violent and dangerous due to the continuous increase of weapons on the streets. Knives have become an integral part of the criminal society and no surprise to London; it seems that firearms are now set to become equally as common. Already the capital has stood witness to numerous gun crimes of disturbing ferocity, which seem to grow in frequency every day and common muggings or robberies escalate into murder. England has the some of the toughest gun laws in Europe, so why has there been such an alarming increase in armed crime? To this there is no clear answer. Despite the strict laws it is not particularly difficult to obtain a gun for all that is required in some cases is a bit of technical know-how or the proper acquaintances. Illegal smuggling of weapons is as common now as the infamous drug trafficking situation. Replicas and war antiques, which are legally purchased, can be easily reactivated into lethal weapons and it is possible to simply purchase a gun as there seems to be an ever-growing criminal underworld developing, with people just waiting to shift guns of varying calibre onto the streets. Even the police specified for dealing with

He was on his way to pick someone up, someone who wasn't a regular customer at the mini cab service he worked for

Left Turn It had been the prime ministers main reasoning for the no tolerance strategy. The tragic story of an innocent mini cab driver. "Work. Sometimes you wish you could just pack up, win the lottery, and never have to work again. Not that you can plan winning the lottery. Jeez, life can be a bitch at times." Mark reflected on some thoughts commonly shared by his work colleagues. He was on his way to pick someone up, someone who wasn't a regular customer at the mini cab service he worked for. The place was in a seedy part of town, he knew most of it well, but he was even lost when trying to find the place. The whole area had reeked of a mixture of: urine, excrement, vomit, and another indistinguishable-but unpleasant-scent. The pavement had been piled high with an array of rubbish: nappies, food tins, paper, tin foil, needles, and pill bottles. The buildings were in a severe state of disrepair with either boarded up windows or no windows at all. Marks hand instinctively reached down for his Walther PPK handgun, he felt small and insignificant as the gangs wandered past, glaring at passers by, but the feel of his gun comforted him (although he had never fired any weapon in anger before). The pub to which he was directed, The Hammer & Anvil, seemed to be playing cat and mouse with him, every time he turned a corner he expected it to be there. Yet every time, instead of

nightmare. Linda ran out of the bank; gun in hand towards a back alley.

Nightmare There was a knock at the door at the door. "Come in". Good morning Noel. Noel I called you because there seems to be a problem. If you have any problems at home talk to us. Me or any of the teachers, it's no good keeping it to your self. "Well then Noel do you want to tell me what's wrong"."? Well you see sir". All of a sudden Noel throws up all over the teachers' desk and register. Mr Kipling jumped up in disgust and Noel ran out of the office and through the main doors were he ran into Linda his knew neighbour. "Wow! What's the hurry Noel"? Noel said nothing and continued to run on. Linda decided to follow him as she was going back home herself. Linda had followed Noel all the way back to his garden. Linda peered over her fence and saw Noel go into his shed. After a short while she heard a bang. Linda leapt over her fence and looked through the small garage window. Noel lay on the floor quiet still with some pills around him. Linda dashed towards the garage door and swung it open. Noel lay on the ground with a pool of blood around his head. Linda saw a gun next to him; she bent over and picked it up. While Linda was examining the gun, Noel's mother crept up from behind

TajMahal 1852.

Taj Mahal 1852 The two Englishmen were walking down the white marble path both holding cups of tea in china cups and saucers. One man was wearing khaki coloured clothes with round head wear with the khaki strap of his hat going down his cheeks near his white bushy moustache. The other man taller and thinner in size had a thin moustache above his thin lips and his hair was well combed into a side parting. Both men were very upper class British men admiring the culture and the carvings of the Taj Mahal walking on the smooth white marble path with patterned carvings on either side of the path. Each step was slow and steady there was no rush at dusk. The air was cool but the humidity of the afternoon could still be seen as the tropical trees in the landscape had a mist of vapour round the branches and the leaves. The atmosphere was calm and cultural the only people to be seen on the path were the men. Conversation between the men was bitter, the short stubby man wearing khaki clothes stood out, he was new to the place of beauty. The tall man stood out and had a lot more confidence and did not look around fascinated by the Mahal like the short man. He wore a black thin suite with a creamy white shirt that could be seen. The short man was very talkative and the tall man spoke the queens English. "This invasion is a great achievement of Britain, here the people are very good

Reasons to believe why Lee Harvey Oswald could have assasinated JFK

Question 2 The Warren Commission blamed the murder of JFK on a lone gunman, Lee Harvey Oswald. They came to this conclusion as there was powerful evidence to point the finger at him. Oswald had many motives in order to assassinate JFK. Firstly Oswald started to show an interest in politics, he joined an organisation called the 'Fair Play for Cuba Committee', and he even set up a new branch in New Orleans. Here they tried to stop America from blockading Cuba. Oswald didn't have a good family background, his dad died when he was young and he and his mother moved around a lot. Oswald also beat his wife, which shows that he wasn't psychologically stable; this meant that had the mind to assassinate someone. As we know that America is capitalist, as Oswald was communist, this would be a plausible reason to start an attack on JFK. For two and a half years, Oswald lived in the USSR, where he trained in the marines. Here, Oswald would learn different skills and learn how to spy, assassinate and most importantly, how to use a gun and plan operations. This shows us that he has the ability to use a gun and potentially plan an operation like the one that occurred on November 22nd. Oswald possessed a forged identity, under the name of 'Alex. T. Hidell', with this he bought a Mannlicher Carcano rifle, which was the gun found on the sixth floor of the book depositary, which is where the
