Monitoring and Rewarding Employees.

MONITORING AND REWARDING EMPLOYEES TASK 1 Purpose of Performance Appraisals A performance appraisal can be defined as "a structured formal interaction between a subordinate and supervisor, that usually takes the form of a periodic interview [annual or semi-annual], in which the work performance of the subordinate is examined and discussed, with a view to identifying weaknesses and strengths as well as opportunities for improvement and skills development." As methods of measuring performance are imperative in assessing a company's success or failure, performance appraisals are necessary in assessing the employee base that is responsible for the company's overall performance. Historically, the primary participants in a performance appraisal are the supervisor and the subordinate. However, as performance appraisal methods have continued to evolve, the evaluators have grown to include a greater range of participants from peers to customers. In addition to an expansion in the participant base, the function of performance appraisals has also grown to encompass various purposes. A popular reasoning behind performance appraisals surrounds the human resources component of justifying promotions, raises and terminations. A performance appraisal provides a formal means for the employer in determining whether or not an employee has the necessary qualifications for either a promotion

PERSONALITY DISORDERS

Yet all experience is an arch wherethro' Gleams that untravell'd world, whose margin fades For ever and for ever when I move. Tennyson's Ulysses Personality disorders indicate the presence of chronic rigid and maladjusted personality traits, through which the person's interpersonal or professional functioning is negatively affected, or which lead to personal unhappiness and problems (Louw, 1990). Discuss this statement from a biopsychosocial frame of reference and refer to one personality disorder in any cluster to illustrate your answer. THE BIOPSYCHOSOCIAL MODEL: The biopsychosocial model (Engel, 1980, cited in Paris, 1993) suggests an integrated approach that understands psychopathology in terms of multiple causes, none of which is sufficient on its own for the development of the disorder. These factors could include biological vulnerability, the psychological impacts of life experiences and the influence of the social environment all of which may factor as risk variables or protective variables. The biopsychosocial model differs from more linear cause and effect approaches such as heredity in that it is only the cumulative interactive effects of the multiple variables can produce the overt disorder. PERSONALITY DISORDERS Personality disorders are characterised by inflexible and longstanding maladaptive personality traits that cause significant impairment and

e learning verses traditional learning

University of Teesside Certificate in Education EDU20004-N Individual Study L2:20 CATS E Learning verses Traditional Learning Produced by Kevin Monaghan Introduction Within my report I hope explore in detail and critically evaluate in depth both Learning methods in an unbiased approach and evaluate findings in terms of impact upon practice. My report will highlight both strengths and weakness in both methods. I also want to demonstrate within this essay what I have learnt during my two years on this course both in the classroom and in my teaching practice. E learning has been part and parcel of education and training in the western world for many years now. In recent times, since the Internet took the world by storm, online learning has become accessible to people in various parts of the world. Now e-learning has found its way into the educational system of developing nations as well. The advancement in technology and communication has made teaching and training almost possible anywhere, anytime. This brings me to the question of how relevant traditional methods of teaching like classroom teaching are in the modern world. Will a teacher or a trainer eventually become dispensable? Will textbooks and other reference books cease to exist? Will writing be totally replaced by the keyboard? Will there be no schools and colleges in future? Will e-learning companies

Differences between e-Learning and e-Teaching

Differences between e-Learning and e-Teaching Introduction Education through the use of computers and information systems has had a long history in education. However, there is a big difference between the earlier and current forms of online learning, as the earlier type, called Computer Based Instruction or Training (CBI or CBT), focused on the interaction between the student and computer drills, tutorials or simulations (Zwass, 1998(. Today, the prevailing paradigm is Computer Mediated Communication (CMC), where the primary form of interaction is between students and instructors, mediated by the computer. CBI is usually individualized (self-study) learning, while CMC involves teacher/tutor facilitation. In this book, when we refer to online learning, we are always talking about CMC, not CBI (Kearsley, 2003). E-learning and e-teaching have rapidly developed over the year. The scope of this paper is to identify the differences between them. On their very core, these two issues share a single key similarity; online education involves the use of computer networks for learning and teaching (Kearsley, 2003). Obviously, such a practice entails the possible use of large-scale public networks such as the internet or small local area networks (LANs) in a specific building (Leontios and Gavana, 2003). The latter may be the basis for an electronic classroom or a campus/school
