Manzana Insurance - Operations Management

MANZANA INSURANCE OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT CASE 1 SUBMITTED TO PROF. T. S. NAGABHUSHANA BY TEAM 1 AMIT KUMAR GUPTA (0211079) HARPREET BINDRA (0211087) HIMANSHU MITRA (0211096) PRADYUMAN KAPOOR (0211113) ROHIT JOG (0211124) EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Fruitvale branch of Manzana, which handles only property underwriting, has been performing very badly for quite some time with very high turnaround time resulting in late renewals and increased renewal loss rate. This is further worsened by increased competition from Golden Gate, a new player in insurance industry. There are a couple of problems in the fruitvale including ineffective incentive system, incorrect prioritizing of requests, increase in shift to newer policies, bottlenecks in operation, pending work not considered on a territory basis and increased turn around time etc. These problems have resulted in loss of almost half of renewal business for Manzana-Fruitvale. Some of the recommendations by which the Fruitvale can be pulled up are pooling together of underwriting teams and catering to any requests received from any of the agents of the branch. Also RERUNS should not be discriminated against because they are actually more profitable both in terms of value and the time they take to be processed. Fruitvale has to streamline its processes and will have to compete on the basis of services in this highly competitive

Lean, flexible and agile are newly developed concepts to help the organisation succeed in such a competitive environment. Lean, flexible and agile in manufacturing Lean Production, also as the Toyota Production System, is initially promoted by Massachusetts Institute of Technology. People and operations management.

EVELYN AYINDE AS BUSINESS STUDIES KEY SKILLS ASSIGNMENT. PEOPLE AND OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT. MOTIVATION:(MOTIVATION THEORY) Read and draw information from at least two sources on the motivational theories of Taylor, Mayo, Maslow and Hertzberg. Compare and contrast their theories, then explain which theory you consider the more convincing and why. Motivation starts with the desire to be free, to be free from dependency on others, freedom to live the lifestyle we dream of, freedom to explore our ideas. Total freedom is not possible or desirable, but the struggle to achieve that ideal is the bases for motivation. If you have a unique idea but don't like taking risk, ideas' is all you will ever have. Taylor, Mayo, Maslow and Hertzberg motivation started with a need, vision, dream or desire to achieve the seemly impossible which brought about motivation theories. George Elton Mayo Hawthorne Experiments was in charge of certain experiments on human behaviour carried out at the Hawthorne Works of General Electric Company in Chicago between 1924 and 1927, but many of these ideas was know as the human relations school grew out of experiments between 1927 and 1932 at the Hawthorn Plant of theWestern Electric Company in Chicago. Initially they were based on the scientist idea that workers productivity was affected by work conditions, skills of workers and financial incentives. His

Group Report On The P, T, and S Facilities Covering the Topics of: * Communications * Materials and Inventory * Order Entry * Supervision at the Plant * General Production Flow * Logistics Every organization whether it is successful or not can constantly improve upon their operations. In order to succeed at improving facilities that work together in some way, shape, or form such as the P, T, and S facilities, problems must be identified and turned into opportunities to improve and streamline each one of their operating businesses. This group report will look at six different areas that can be streamlined to run with much higher levels of efficiency than they are currently operating at. The following six topics will be researched, discussed, and have logical solutions that will be recommended: * Communications * Materials and Inventory * Order Entry * Supervision at the Plants * General Production Flow * Logistics The fact that the P, T and S facilities work together in some manner is reason enough to have all of these facilities in close vicinity to one another; our suggestion for the three facilities is that a large parcel of land be found and purchased to build a reasonable sized industrial complex housing all three facilities under one roof. The reason for building a facility that will house all three units is that there is too much transporting back

Learning Team Operations Improvement Plan Evans Oniha, R.N. Eugene Hardin, MD Angela Tatum Lennis Fareed University of Phoenix MGT554: Operations Management Group GA04MBA03F Professor Teodur Sauca, MBA April 27, 2005 Learning Team Operations Management Plan The problem of emergency department overcrowding has become an important issue for many emergency departments throughout the city and county of Los Angeles. Patients frequently have to wait hours just to get into the emergency department to be seen by a physician or other healthcare professionals. The problem does not seem to be getting better as times goes on, but indeed studies seem to indicate that the condition is growing worse. At a local Los Angeles County Hospital (King Drew Medical Center) emergency department, we found that the problem is especially severe. Patients are forced to wait as long as 8-12 hours to be seen and treated by physicians. This paper will propose a plan that will help to alleviate this critical problem of emergency department overcrowding and long patients waits for services. Problem Statement There is a nationwide shortage of emergency room space and an increased demand for emergency services. Public health officials, hospital executives, and doctors are increasingly concerned about emergency department ''boarding," because of the potential impact on both patient safety and staff

Operations Management Case 1: Manzana Insurance.

Operations Management Case 1: Manzana Insurance Submitted to Prof. T. S. Nagabhushana Indian Institute of Management Bangalore Situation Analysis Founded in 1902 in California, Manzana Insurance specialized in commercial insurance, with property insurance, in 1991, making up 65% of its revenues, liability insurance 20%, and investment income and miscellaneous specialty lines constituting the remainder. Manzana operated through a network of relatively autonomous branch offices in 3 states of the United States of America - California, Oregon, and Washington. Each branch was treated as a separate profit and loss center. Its sales force comprised about 2,000 independent agents who represented Manzana and other competing insurers. Consequently, there were no exclusive Manzana agents. Manzana Insurance, founded in 1902, had a profitable home and commercial property insurance business for several decades. The company's performance started taking a hit in early 1970s. This was due to emergence of a nimble competitor, Goldengate, and high interest rate regime. The case is concerned with the performance of a branch, by name Fruitvale, which has been consistently losing business to its archrival Goldengate in its territory. By mid-1991, Goldengate had performed much better than Manzana's Fruitvale branch on every count and this resulted in memo being issued by the senior
