Group Interaction Work Context My Group interaction consisted of me being put in place of someone in the medical profession talking to a group of people about recent treatments/illnesses. I chose to speak to a group of children in their playroom in a nursery. My interaction took place in a playroom which held many different barriers for me to think about and plan before my interaction took place. I laid the furniture that was available to avoid as many barriers as I could. Also having a range of ages in my group would need to be considered because some would have longer attention spans than others. I laid out the playroom as shown in the diagram below. I wanted to set out so I catered for all ages ranging from 3-7. I only wanted to keep the children there for 5 minutes because of their differing attention spans. As my diagram indicates I set out the playroom very carefully. I laid it out in this way for many of the same reasons as for my one to one. Refer back to my one to one for those reasons. In addition I asked the children where they would like to sit, at the table or on the pillows. They said they wanted to sit at the pillows. This is an example of empowerment because the children can control their own situations and control what choices they make. I also chose to sit on a pillow as well rather than a chair so I was at their level. If I was in a chair it would show a

How caffeine affects Daphnia heartbeat?

An experiment to determine how caffeine affects the heart rate of Daphnia (water fleas)? Introduction The purpose of this experiment is to determine whether or not caffeine has an affect on the heart rate of Daphnia Hypothesis The Daphnia heart rate will increase with the concentration of caffeine. I based my hypothesis on the fact that humans heart rates increase with caffeine as it acts as a stimulant drug. In the experiment there will be several variables that I need to try and control, the temperature of the water is one of these because if the temperature is higher or lower on the day the results may end up being higher or lower, this would make my results inaccurate. I need to try and limit the human error in the experiment as the daphnia heartbeat is very quick so it will be hard to be completely accurate so we are using the "blind method". We need to use the same microscope throughout testing as others may have different strength lenses. I am also going to keep the species of daphnia the same, as different species may react differently to the caffeine. I will use the same type of caffeine and record the amount of time the daphnia spend in the caffeine before the counting begins, and try to keep this to a similar range. The independent variable I will change is the concentration of caffeine in the water. I am going to be testing 0.1%, and 0.5% caffeine and also

How concentration affects rate of reaction

Chemistry IGCSE Coursework Víctor Toledo Science 10A How concentration affects rate of reaction AIM: We wanted to see if changing the concentration of one of the reactants also changed the rate of reaction by changing the ratio of acid to the other reactant. To test this we used calcium carbonate and hydrochloric acid: PLAN: We were going to calculate how concentration affected reaction rate by reacting the calcium carbonate and acid in a conical flask and then collecting the carbon dioxide that would come out in a measuring cylinder filled up to the top. Then we would record how much gas was collected during a minute and repeat these steps with a different concentration of the acid. APPARATUS: - Conical flask (250cm3) - Beakers (large and small) - Large basin with water - Delivery tube & stopper - Measuring cylinders (large and small) - Clamp stand - Electronic balance - Stopwatch - Safety glases - Spatula - Pipette - Calcium carbonate - Hydrochloric acid (2M) - Plastic tray METHOD: . First collect all of the apparatus and set up the most important elements as in the image (you can use a clamp stand to secure the cylinder). 2. Then, go to the balance and measure the weight of the plastic tray without the calcium carbonate. Once the balanced has measured correctly, press "tare" and now add the powder with the help of the spatula until it is one gram.

Coronary Heart Disease

Coronary Heart Disease: The risks and factors The heart is a crucial muscle in the body, it pumps on average five litres of blood a minute around the body. The heart itself has its own blood supply from a network of blood vessels on the surface of the heart known as the coronary arteries. Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) is formed when the supply of blood to the heart is blocked off due to the build up of fatty substances in these coronary arteries. CHD has numerous causes and thus it is the UK's biggest killer with approximately 300,000 people having a heart attack each year. Cholesterol is one of the four main causes of CHD, it is made in the liver from saturated fats and is carried through the blood stream by lipoproteins. There are also many different types of lipoproteins, but the main two are low density lipoproteins (LDL) and high density lipoproteins (HDL). LDL cholesterol builds up in the coronary arteries, which can then cause CHD as mentioned previously. Whereas HDL cholesterol does the opposite and takes the cholesterol away from the cells and back to the liver, thus this is often referred as the good cholesterol. A good total blood cholesterol level is 5 or lower, as if you allow your LDL level to get too high the HDL will not be to remove the cholesterol sufficiently. CHD can even happen to the fittest of people, for example a footballer in Spain last year

Blood Brothers evaluation.

Blood Brothers evaluation. Written by Willy Russell Performed at the Phoenix Theatre, London Performance date 27 March 03 The performance was melodramatic with big hand gestures and with altered voices. Being melodramatic and the big gestures made it clearer to see what was happening on stage especially as the audience was seated so far away from the actions of the characters. The narrative was set in an old road in Liverpool with Liverpudlian accents, so the actors altered their voices to cockney accents to create a believable setting. The staging was well thought out because the stage was narrow and the seats were plotted around the stage with three floors and lots of seating. It had a rich and luxurious feeling to it and the audience must have felt the same way too, especially with the binoculars built into the seats. The cyclorama (hanging cloth/sky cloth) had a big affect on the audience because it created an illusion of stars and night, which is not commonly used on most stages so it was particularly impressive. The thing that makes or can make musicals in this genre more attractive are props because they add colour, they make it more realistic, added connotations and helps you to tell what is happening by symbolic representation. The set disappointed me because you could see people controlling the light and

EVA Smith's DIARY ENTRIES

EVA Smith's DIARY ENTRIES Tuesday, September 19th, 1910. Im shattered today. It was another hard day at the Works. The weather's getting worse and the prospect of a pay rise is the only thing keeping me going, at the moment. However, I'm not that optimistic of achieving it. Birling is an ignorant, obstinate, old fool and is adamant on widening the gap between rich and poor. Tomorrow's the day he's going to discuss our offer. It's a lost cause. I've always fought for what I believe in but know I'm beginning to wonder what the point is. This job is the only thing I've got and I can't afford to lose it. People nowadays don't take kindly to single girls who are unemployed and have no prospects. Anyway that's enough for tonight, I better hit the sack. Wednesday September 20th 1910, It turned out that Birling didn't want to negotiate at all! He sacked me! Typical! Just when I thought I was on the verge of a promotion, this happens! He work's us like slaves and isn't even willing to negotiate a compromise. It just isn't right. The world would be a much better place without scum like Birling. He gave us a load of old waffle about how he didn't want to drive labour costs too high and in his words, "regrettably we are going to have to discharge you." The slimy, good for nothing, weasel, he made it sound as if he had no choice. Well I suppose there's no point wallowing

Social work assessments are an art and a science.

The assessment took place after an initial referral from social services that Mrs P was entitled to day-care at the Apna Ghar daycentre. A NHS single adult overview was provided which I referred to, however the agency has to carry out there own assessment to gain a broader understanding of the services users needs in order to facilitate appropriate care for them. I liased with my line manager and social services for additional information before evaluating it all and arranging a home visit to carry out the contact assessment. Mrs P is a very vulnerable elderly lady with severe physical and emotional needs, which consist of depression, social isolation, communication and poor mobility. Mrs P is also fed through a peg and is on various medications. Mrs P cannot communicate at all due to a major stroke. Mrs P's daughter in law is her main carer however she is no longer able to provide care for Mrs P, as she has five children and is having great difficulty in caring for both an managing the household. Therefore a referral was made to the day centre. Due to Mrs P's communication problems she is unable to communicate her needs, wishes and feelings. Consequently the assessment and care plan were carried out with the family. Assessment is a key element in social work practice and without it practitioners would be left to react to situations and intervene in an unplanned and

Light Waves

Light Waves In this universe there are many thing that we cannot explain. Among these many things is light. Light, as far as we know, come in different wavelengths and the size of the wavelength determine what type of light it is. The middle wavelength lights are what gives us the seven basic colors of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. Beside these visible lights there are the lights that cannot be seen by the human eye. These invisible lights can be grouped into two other groups the long waves and short waves. The first group of waves is the longer wavelength of light including infrared and radio waves. Radio waves, the longest wavelengths, alternate and can be volatile. Arthur C. Clarke said in the essay "The Light of Common Day" that since radio waves fluctuate so much no animal has ever been able to sense them. He goes on to say that if you had an eye big enough to see radio waves your eyes would be millions of times larger than a normal eye. The next longest wave is the infrared light waves. Infrared light is used nowadays to see in the night. Special goggles are designed to pick up infrared light making it possible to see at night. The next group of light waves are the shorter waves of ultraviolet and x-rays. Ultraviolet light, sometimes referred to as UV, is right next to violet and is just beyond sight. UV light is what causes sunburns and can

Lord of the flies- what are the main themes within the novel

English coursework (what are the main themes within William Golding's novel 'Lord of the flies') At first glance, 'lord of the flies' is a simple tale of a group of boys stranded on an island. Its not until you really get into the novel and read between the lines that the many different themes begin to emerge. Golding himself regarded it as "a modern fable which can be enjoyed on more complex levels." I believe the themes in the novel are the most important factors when analyzing the novel. Lots of themes emerge in the first few chapters that are very relevant to the rest of novel. The main themes in the novel is civilization v savagery. Also I have identified many other relevant themes for example the need for political democracy, evil in mankind and that people are inherently evil. Golding strongly believed that people were inherently evil and he put this in to his novel very well through the character of Jack-allusion to Hitler and in this essay I will explore the many other themes within the novel. Civilization is the refinement of thought, manners, and taste in society. It has taken thousands of years for people to become civilized. If we were not, there would be much crime, violence, and hatred among people. Civilization is a common practice today, from something as simple as holding the door open for someone, to as complex as the American economy. In Golding's work,
