Line of enquiry
I have many ideas for the line of enquiry, here are the following suggestion I had I thought of first:
- Girl’s and Boy’s IQ
- The hair colour and eye colour
- The height and weight
- The weight and height
- IQ and Key stage 3 results(to choose each one)
- The weigh and IQ
- TV watch and IQ
- Key stage 3 results and TV watched
- No. of siblings and Key stage 3 results
- No. of siblings an d IQ
Out of all of these ideas I have chosen “No. of siblings and IQ.”
I am going to investigate the relationship between “IQ and Key stage 3 results (maths).” I think that IQ would be much higher if the Key stage 3 maths result is high e.g. level five, on the other hand if the results are much lower this will affect the IQ. I have chosen this as a line of enquiry because I believe that what a person get in key stage 3 will affect the IQ. If my prediction is right then there will be a relationship between the two data’s. Firstly, I am going to do girls and boys separately.
Firstly, I am going to collect a random sample of 30 pupils (mixture of boys and girls). I would have to use a calculator to get the sample. This is what I entered in to the calculator: Shift 7(Random) X (times) 342(that was the total I had after removing the anomalous data) = I would a number between 0 and 342.
Range
Range of IQ =Greatest value - lowest value
Boys IQ
110 - 90 = 20
Girls IQ
119 - 90 = 29

The median will help me draw up my cumulative frequency graph; on the graph, I would have upper quartile and lower quartile.
My graph is on the next page.

Analysing my results
My graphs show different results, both for girls IQ and Boys IQ have a curve (s shaped). As you can see on my graph I have drawn a lower and higher quartile.
Seeing the relationship between the boys and girl’s IQ, I have concluded that the girls are cleverer than the boys from Mayfield high school.
Now I have to collect the results for Key stage three maths results.
Here is how I calculated the mean

Extending the investigation
Now I am going to base my coursework on finding out the year 10s from Mayfield high school are cleverer the year 11s.I have chosen this line of enquiry because I think as time goes on the education gets better. I am going to use a new random sample. Here is my sample:
