Animal Rights

In my animal rights essay I am focusing on the use of animals in medical research. I believe strongly that animals should not be used in medical experiments because I feel the suffering of the animals is not justified. Many people are opposed to animal research for the obvious reason that animals should not suffer. The main argument is that should many animals suffer for the medicine that could save somebody’s life.

        There are many organizations that are opposed to animal research. Most believe that animals should not be subject to unnecessary pain and non-animal research should be used wherever possible. There are also groups of people that believe that testing on animals is totally wrong that it should not happen at all. These people are called the Anti-vivi-sectionists. They will use many different methods to bring the end of animal testing, sometimes violent. I do not feel as strong as the anti-vivi-sectionists because their views are that an animal’s life is as precious a human’s. They do not believe that we should make an animal suffer for our own benefit.

        I am against animal testing for the main reason that the animals go through a lot of pain and suffering for the very small chance that they may help someone someday. 2.57 million animals in the U.K had experiments carried out on them in the year 2001 that were likely to cause pain or distress. This is a lot of animals and it is estimated that 200 million animals worldwide are experimented on annually.
