Global warning!

Global Warning! It has been estimated that the whole world could be under water within a century if nothing is done to combat the phenomenon, which is Global Warming The once natural paradise, the Antarctic, is now associated with destruction. For the wildlife itself, the melting glaciers and the breakdown of the ecosystem must seem like a hell on earth. One of these creatures is the awesome polar bear. It make be the top carnivore within its food chain and is able to swim a hundred miles at a time however we have caused the dramatically decreasing numbers of this animal, so much so that it has been place on the endangered species list. Polar bears generally breed twins at a time and provide an ice den for their offspring so that they can adapt to the surroundings, learning to eventually fend for themselves. This is no longer possible, once again because of the human race. We are filling our once clean atmosphere with too many pollutant gases, not only making it more toxic but also thickening the atmosphere. As a result it is harder for heat to escape and the world's average temperature rises. This increase has caused large parts of the Antarctic to melt already and if nothing is done to stop it escalating, then this area may have to be removed from our map of the globe. Do not underestimate this eventuality and it will cause the peril of the human race too.

THE YOUNG EMBRACE MODERN TECHNOLOGY, THE OLD FEEL THREATENED BY IT

THE YOUNG EMBRACE MODERN TECHNOLOGY, THE OLD FEEL THREATENED BY IT Today's era, witness to astronomical advancement in the field of science and technology, bores a technology savvy generation of people. Such a generation cannot imagine a life without the technologies termed "modern". It seems as though modern technology has become a fundamental need of human beings, not just the young but the old and children alike. Today, people are born in an environment full of all kinds of technologies. A new born child's record of pulse and other anatomical activities are, of course results of modern technology like heart monitor, and so on. Thus, such a child, at youth, may certainly feel modern technology a necessity, and thus embrace it. This fact not only emphasizes on the importance of technology on modern life but also underlines a query about whether the old feel threatened by such so-called modern marvels like mobile phones, internet, etc. This is, in fact a valid question because today's youth, certainly- majority of them are so influenced by modern technology and have got so much dependent on it that the real value of life, described by the wise old as embracing nature and God's creations and values, has been forgotten. Thus, many people rightly debate that the old who at youth, hadn't witnessed technological advancement of today, feel threatened by modern technology.

Paper or Plastic?

Spencer Yen 24 3/25/09 Writing Paper or Plastic - What's Yours? Each year, the same question is asked millions of times -- "Paper or Plastic?" Although the real response to this problem is reusable bags, if one day you're without one, paper is better choice in many ways. As bags are constantly littered on the ground everyday, unlike plastic, paper can naturally degrade into the soil. Often times' plastic bags are found clogging up drains, and many other devastating occasions. Also, paper is very strong, durable, and can be used for many other activities besides grocery shopping. Paper is without doubt environmentally safer. It is capable of biodegrading into natural soil within ninety days. Moreover, it is made by a renewable resource, trees. Easy to be recycled, every ton of recycled paper, it saves about three cubic yards of landfill space. Plastic is made of polyethylene, which apparently is eighty percent non-recyclable. Plastic is also made of oil, a non-renewable resource. To create one plastic bag, toxic chemicals are involved, producing more pollution. Paper is also very convenient, strong and sturdy. At schools, paper bags are used to take papers home because they are sturdier. A number of projects also need to use paper bags to make objects. Using paper makes it easier when shopping, because the food won't slide out of the bag easily. Since Paper or Plastic is

Is it a good thing that english is beconing a dominant global language

Is it a Good thing that English is becoming a Dominant Global Language? English, which is spoken by 1.9 billon of the world's population as their first language, has been spreading rapidly in the world since the British Industrial Revolution and colonialism in many continents such as Asia, Africa and North America during the 18th century. As the influence of English is increasing, some linguists think that it is a natural process of successful international communication. However, many other languages are also dying out at an accelerating rate because of the expansion of the English language. In discussing the issue of the growing influence of English; arguments, both for and against, should be considered, particularly, in the economic, the information exchange, the linguistic aspects and the aspect of alteration, unity and differentiation. Firstly, the argument for the issue is that the growing influence of English benefits the international economy. Most countries today, for example, Australia, China, Japan, Korea, the UK and the USA, are eager to trade with other countries as it is more profitable to do so. Some of these countries have their own language and this will lead to an inconvenience due to the difference in languages. Thus, there is a need of a global language to ensure all business transactions are performed smoothly without misinterpretation among all buyers

Pro Speech- Capital Punishment

'The right to life means that capital punishment is always wrong.' Discuss this claim. I am going to argue against this statement as guilty people deserve to be punished in proportion to the severity of their crime. Capital punishment is a morally dubious concept as the anticipatory suffering of the criminal, who may be kept on death row for many years, makes the punishment more severe than just depriving the criminal of life. I will also discuss the history of the death penalty. The first established death penalty laws date as far back as the Eighteenth Century B.C. in the code of King Hammurabi of Babylon, which codified the death penalty for 25 different crimes. Britain influenced America's use of the death penalty more than any other country. When European settlers came to the new world, they brought the practice of capital punishment. The first recorded execution in the new colonies was that of Captain George Kendall in the Jamestown colony of Virginia in 1608. Today, the death penalty continues to be an issue of controversy, but the number of people that are for the death penalty continues to grow. An example of this is the law that passed in 1994. As part of an omnibus crime bill, the federal death penalty was expanded to some 60 different offenses. Among the federal crimes for which people in any state or territory of the U.S. can receive a death sentence are murder

00 Hung Thai , Phu My Hung Dist. X, Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam Ms. Blenkiron 234 A Vo Truong Toan St., An Phu Ward, District XX, HoChiMinh City, Vietnam Dear Ms. Blenkiron: My name is Hai Van Le, and I have been a student here at ISHCMC for 9 years, and I am writing to you to appeal for a raise in awareness about discrimination in our middle school section. Throughout my years at ISHCMC, I have witnessed several cases of students discriminating against one another due to stereotypes from race and sex to personality. One thing I have experience almost on a daily basis is how groups of people of the same country and race all associate with each other, and hardly ever with ones outside of their circle - unless they have been asked to do so in class. I have heard my peers talk badly about people who might be homosexual, and I felt very unfair to those who were talked about in that manner. In every school (and ISHCMC is no exception), students frequently judge one's appearance and stereotype each other. From there on, it leads to all the social circles and the ones who are left out remain alone. I am aware of the fact that prejudices are unavoidable as they are formed unconsciously in everybody's minds, but I feel that our school should be more aware of this problem. I know that students are encouraged to work together with people who we don't know so well, people from

Vetnam

The U.S involvement in the War of Vietnam was controversial; Explain why there were many people against it? Opposition to Vietnam War Opposition to United States involvement in the Vietnam War is significant because it was the first time a war was shown and accessed through the media to the public in the United States. The reasons behind American opposition to the Vietnam War fall into the following main categories: opposition to the draft; moral, legal, and pragmatic arguments against U.S. intervention; reaction to the media portrayal of the devastation in Southeast Asia. The Draft, as a system of conscription which threatened lower class registrants and middle class registrants alike, drove much of the protest after 1965. Conscientious objectors did play an active role although their numbers were small. The prevailing sentiment that the draft was unfairly administered inflamed blue-collar American opposition and African-American opposition to the military draft itself. Opposition to the war arose during a time of unprecedented student activism which followed the free speech movement and the civil rights movement. The military draft mobilized the baby boomers who were most at risk, but grew to include a varied cross-section of Americans. The growing opposition to the Vietnam War was partly attributed to greater access to uncensored information presented by the extensive
