Is Global Warming Real?

Is Global Warming Real? 'The average temperatures have increased by 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit, around the world since 1880, most of this has happened in recent decades', according to NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies. This statement is referring to global warming, but is global warming part of earth's natural cycle and nothing to be concerned about or the damage being caused to the earth's atmosphere by human beings and something very serious? There are many arguments for and against global warming, many believe it to be real and we cannot stop it now and some believe it is a natural part of the planets life cycle. The topic of global warming is one of the most researched and discussed in the world, what is causing the increase in temperature? Can it be stopped or slowed down? But to answer any of these questions, we must ask the most important question: Is Global Warming Real? To answer this question we must first understand what the term 'global warming' means: according to the Oxford Dictionary it states: 'global warming the gradual increase in the temperature of the earth's atmosphere due to increased levels of carbon dioxide etc.' Then if we look at another source it states global warming 'is an increase in the average temperature of the earth's atmosphere...' from www.wordnetweb.edu. From these meanings we can all agree that global warming is the increase in

Different Wars, Similar Outcome

Natalia Coronell Mr. D'Aquila ENG 4U1 July 21, 2009 Different Wars, Similar Outcome Wars that lay buried in history and wars present in the world today unite through the most common and blatant reality of war: violence resulting in imminent death. Literature often presents different perspectives of these wars that ultimately tie together and bring forth the actuality of war. Timothy Findley's The Wars and Wilfred Owen's "Dulce et Decorum Est" present a precise example of different pieces of literature that connect through the common theme of war. The Wars and "Dulce et Decorum Est" offer the unconcealed and harsh violence of war and through vivid imagery, these authors depict life at war. Additionally, both of these works contain the four basic elements of life - earth, water, fire, and air - to reveal that these four basic elements can represent death as well. Moreover, the theme of appearance versus reality impacts both works profoundly through the ruthless truth of war as compared to the credulous beliefs of war. Through these ways, a novel and a poem unify to unveil the truth about war and convince audiences of the violent reality of warfare. The violent nature of war is visibly illustrated in both The Wars and "Dulce et Decorum Est". Death, the impending result of such violence, is an underlying theme that highlights both literary works and assists audiences in

Should Cannabis be legalised in the UK?

Should Cannabis be legalised in the UK? Most people have their own opinion on whether or not Cannabis should be legalised but the reasons behind these opinions are not always correct and justifiable. Cannabis is now a class C drug after it was dropped from being a class B in 2004. It is illegal to have, give away or deal in Class C drugs, and to grow cannabis plants. The maximum penalties for being in possession is 2 years in jail plus an unlimited fine, for supplying or dealing cannabis you can get 14 years in jail plus an unlimited fine and if you are caught in possession with intent to supply cannabis you could get up to 14 years in jail plus an unlimited fine. Cannabis is the most widely used illegal drug in the UK, with up to 3 million consumers per year. It is most commonly smoked, usually by mixing it with tobacco and rolling it up with cigarette papers into a cannabis cigarette (called a 'spliff', 'joint', 'jay' etc.). However, it can also be smoked with or without tobacco in various forms of pipes or smoking devices such as 'bongs' or 'water pipes'. Smoking Cannabis produces fairly instant intoxication, the effects lasting from 1 to 3 hours depending on the strength of the drug and the amount used. Cannabis can also be taken orally, either eaten direct or mixed with food preparations, such as cakes, biscuits (hence 'hash cookies') or hot drinks. Taking Cannabis

A103_TMA02 Art History

TMA 02 Part 1 Art History In not more than 300 words, write a descriptive account of Harmen Steenwyck's: Still Life: An Allegory of the Vanities of Human Life ( Illustration Book, Colour Plate 10), paying particular attention to the organisation and lighting of the composition and to the effects of tone and colour. Harmen Steenwyck illustrates an eclectic mix of objects in this fine oil painting. The objects are placed close to the picture plane, as within reach of the spectator, drawing the eye from left to right as the clustered objects increase in height. This suggests that this is the way that Steenwyck wanted the spectator to view them. His skilful use of light draws us to the principal object, the illuminated skull, bringing out the richness of its golden colour whilst depriving the hollows of the eyes to add depth. Many of the objects have spherical parts to them that again are highlighted through the use of light. Steenwyck manipulates light and shade through gradual transition to form the illusion of their roundness. Not only do these contrasts produce a striking illustrative effect but they also help to define the objects from one another. The fine brushwork picks up the finest detail, such as the leaves of the well thumbed books, the dial on the watch and the fraying rope on the urn. Harmen has organised the majority of his objects to the right side of the piece

Internship Journal

. OVERVIEW Bill Gates once said "if I was down to my last dollar, I'd spend it on public relations". Such a statement, particularly from an entrepreneur so renowned in the business arena, is no doubt a sparkling endorsement for the industry. Regardless, it is only after two internships with Verve Communications in 2009 and the Sydney Kings in 2010 that I feel I have gathered the understanding and experience to realise how poignant such a declaration is - arguably even more so in a fledgling economic climate. In the following report, while focusing primarily on The Sydney Kings resurrection, I will draw on the knowledge gained and lessons learned in the first few weeks of my internship in 2010. In doing so, I will consider how both theoretical and practical elements of the BA Communications (Public Relations) degree have impacted upon and assisted me during my experience at the Kings. It is these original understandings that have enabled me to be a part of the successful PR team, and hence understand the true value of public relations. 2. ACTIVITIES AND LEARNING Be thrown in at the deep end and you will learn to swim. When considering my first few weeks at Sydney Kings, it is this idiom that constantly reemerges. Within my first day at work in 2010, I had participated in meetings, written my first press release and helped allocate season ticket holders their seats. For

Analysis of Beach Burial

Beach Burial (Kenneth Slessor)- Analysis Softly and Humbly to the Gulf of Arabs, The convoys of dead sailors come; At night they sway and wander in the waters far under, But morning rolls them in the foam. Between the sob and clubbing of the gunfire Someone, it seems, has time for this, To pluck them from the shallows and bury them in burrows And tread the sand upon their nakedness; And each cross, the driven stake of tidewood, Bears the last signature of men,Written with such perplexity, with such bewildered pity,The words choke as they begin -"Unknown seaman" - the ghostly pencil Wavers and fades, the purple drips, The breath of the wet season has washed their inscriptions As blue as drowned men's lips,Dead seamen, gone in search of the same landfall,Whether as enemies they fought,Or fought with us, or neither ; the sand joins them together,Enlisted on the other front. Although not blatantly obvious at first, Kenneth Slessor's emotive and poignant poem Beach burial is a poem concerned with raising the awareness of national identity. Now I found this hard to believe at first - For me to be able to use this poem, (as it has been my one of my favourites for years) I though that for it to have ANYTHING to do with national identity I would have had to use my creative ability to dissect and warp aspects of the poem that COULD have something to do with national
