I conducted some research into what people of different ages thought of the Center Parcs logo and designed a questionnaire- as follows:
- Would this logo catch your eye if you saw it on the front cover of a brochure or leaflet?
Yes
No
- What does this logo look like to you?
- Have you ever visited Center Parcs?
Yes
No
- Do you think Center Parcs has a multi-racial environment?
Yes
No
- Do you like the contrast in colours of the bird in flight?
Yes
No
I noticed that everyone I asked said that the logo was a design of a bird in flight made out of two leaves. Many people said they had never been to Center Parcs in their lives. Most people said that Center Parcs has a multi-racial environment. Almost everyone said they liked the contrasting colours of the Center Parcs logo.
Center Parcs is a widely well-known holiday company.
There are many forest resorts around the world such as; Holland, Belgium, Germany, Great Britain and France.
Center Parcs first originated in England there are 3 different forest resorts they are Sherwood forest in Nottingham, Elveden Forest in Suffolk and Longleat Forest which is situated in Wiltshire.
Looking through the brochure, Center Parcs gives you a wide range of facilities to use.
The cover design of the Center Parcs brochure is divided into two sections.
The logo is setout at the top-right hand corner of the cover and takes up the corner of the page, using little space.
The logo represents a good image for the company, which advertises holidays in the forest. It is an image of a bird in flight made up of two leaves. The bird represents freedom and tranquillity. The leaves are also part of the forest environment.
The colours used to create the bird are two shades of green and blue for the font.
These colours make me think of the Great outdoors, relaxing and peaceful.
I think that the design of the logo is very eye catching. The location or setting for the photograph is in the forest. It contains people relaxing and enjoying themselves in a safe and peaceful environment.
On the front page of the brochure, there are two men who look like they are having a lot of fun and the two women look like they are enjoying themselves to. The front page of the brochure shows you that you can have b-b-q at the park.
The males and females in the front cover photograph are dressed appropriately for the summer. They are wearing pale coloured clothes. They are wearing white, cream, place green, blue and pale coloured jeans. The clothes that they are wearing reflect on the summer fashion trends that people wear in the summer.
The content page for the 2002 Center Parcs brochure is bright and gives you photographs showing you different parts of the site. The brochure has the logo in the Center on the right page and not very big. The contents page gives you information about where it is, what accommodation is available, and tells you about the wide range of activities that they offer. The Center Parcs brochure has a little paragraph written by Julie Welch she says, “you still arrive there stressed out, work worn and full of bile.” She then goes on saying, “what sort of things you could do there.”
The brochure is supplied in large print for people with special needs or reading difficulties. The people in the 2 pages of the contents page look like they are really enjoying their break. The sub-headings in the contents page are written in bright green. A paragraph is also written in a green but in a darker green so it would catch the reader’s eyes when reading it. All the information needed on the contents page is written in greens. At the bottom of the right page there is three different logos ‘investon in people ‘ ‘SGS’ and ‘hospitality assured’.
The Center Parcs television advertisement starts off as a caption of the title of the poem ‘leisure’ by W.H. Davies in the centre of the screen and the main logo next to it. A male voice is reciting the lines of the first stanza. While the male voice is reciting the first verse a caption of a lake with a background of wood and forest.
The first verse of the poem starts like this;
‘What is this life,
If full of care,
We have no time,
To stand and stare’
The first verse has a pair of rhyming couplets in the second and fourth line. They are care and stare. The first verse gives the impression of peace and tranquillity and a place to go on holiday to have a good time and to relax.
The second stanza accompanies the 3rd caption. The caption is of cyclists biking through the forest. The camera moves from left to right. A family of different aged people are riding together enjoying themselves; it looks like a family atmosphere. The caption gives the idea of an active holiday where the weather is good and they are all wearing clothes suitable for the summer months.
The second stanza is recited;
‘No time to stand,
Beneath the boughs,
And stare as long,
As sheep or cows.’
Again this stanza gives you the impression of a laid back community. The male voice continues to recite the rest of the poem.
The 4th caption and 3rd stanza are shown together. The 4th caption is of a squirrel jumping from one tree to another. The camera stops whilst the squirrel is in mid-air and rotates around the squirrel.
The 3rd stanza is recited as the camera is rotating around the squirrel. The 3rd stanza is;
‘No time to see,
When woods we pass,
Where squirrels hide,
There nuts in grass.’
This verse gives me the impression of animals living in the forests and they hide things in the grass.
The 4th caption is of a woman in the sauna, you can only see the to her shoulders and the rest of her head. She picks up a ladle and pours water over the fire. Steam pours off of the fire.
The 4th stanza is the last verse it is;
‘A pour life this is,
If full of care,
We have no time,
To stand and stare.’
This last stanza gives me the impression of there being lots of facilities and activities there where all the family can go and enjoy themselves.
Like in the first stanza the 4th stanza has rhyming couplets in ‘care’ and ‘stare’. All of the stanzas in this poem have rhyming couplets in the 2nd and 4th lines.
