The Internet

The Internet The Internet is like a network of networks where any computer can link up to information stored within it. It is accessed by a telecommunications line and a modulator-demodulator (MODEM). It is brought to your computer screen by converting analogue telephone signals into digital computer signals. There are many advantages and disadvantages on the Internet. The main advantage of the Internet is that communication is made very easy. Two people on opposite sides of the world may communicate with each other via such things as videoconferences. This would save money on flights to other countries just to have a meeting when they can each communicate from their own office. The Internet is a very good place to advertise companies. Businesses can build their own websites and buy their own memorable .com domains. This can be where they explain their company and the services they offer. Some can even offer home delivery directly from the Internet with things such as home shopping. This makes life very easy for disabled people or people with busy lives who have no time to go shopping. Other services the Internet has to offer are things such as Online Banking. This is often quicker and easier for people so that they can carry out transactions over the web to anyone in the world without the hassle of writing cheques. It can also help them to keep abreast of their bank

The Internet

The Internet The word Internet stands for International Network. The Internet is a collection of thousands of computer networks throughout the world. The linked networks may be either LANs or WANs, most of them are owned by individual organisations. Some WANs such as CompuServe act as Service Providers. The Internet has had a relatively brief, but explosive history so far. It grew out of an experiment begun in the 1960s by the U.S. Department of Defence. The Department of Defence wanted to create a computer network that would continue to function in the event of a disaster, such as a nuclear war. If part of the network were damaged or destroyed the rest of the system still had to work. The Internet is a network of networks that connects computers all over the world. The Internet has its roots in the U.S. military, which funded a network in 1969, called the ARPANET, to connect the computers at some colleges and universities where military research took place. As more and more computers connected, the APARNET was replaced by the NSFNET in1985, which was run by the National Science Foundation. NSFNET is a series of networks for research and education communication. Based on ARPANET protocols, the NSFNET created a national backbone service, provided free to any U.S. research and educational institution. At the same time, regional networks were created to link individual

The Internet

The Internet The Internet is a very big Wide Area Network. The Internet started in 1969 as a research company by the US Military. Now it is an international computer Network connecting other networks and computers from other companies, universities etc. The Internet provides huge amounts of information. All the information on the Internet has been written by people although some information could be biased. I personally find the internet very useful. All you need to get is a physical connection and a browser to get on the Internet. Most People use a computer and a modem connected to a telephone line. A modem converts computer signals that can be carries over telephone lines. Next you would need a Web Browser, the most common is Internet Explorer which comes as part of the Windows system, and there are also other web browsers. Lastly you would need the modem to dial up a computer owned by an Internet Service Provider (ISP). It is a company which offers their customer's access to the Internet. This is most likely that you have to pay. For all this you get a vast pool of resources although it is quite expensive for the hardware and software to get the Internet. ISPs may also provide Internet e-mail accounts to users. After all that you can use your web browser. A Web Browser is software for viewing WebPages. A web browser is a software application which enables a user to look

The impact of ICT in the community

The Impact of ICT In The Community Southampton is the largest city on the south coast of England. It is a major port and the closet city to the New Forest. It lies roughly in the centre of the coast, at the northern-most point of the Southampton Water where it is joined to the River Itchen and River Test. Southampton is a port, and it is used for many things such as ferrying, imports and exports. CCTV is one of the most obvious pieces of technology in the community in use. It stands for closed-circuit television and is used for surveillance. Even though it has television in the name it is not exactly like the 'normal television' that we watch on our TV's at home, that is broadcast television which gets openly transmitted, this closed-circuit television gets transmitted only to specific monitors. These monitors have people, such as security guards watching them to keep 'an eye out' for any crime that may be going on. Many people are against CCTV because they believe it to be an invasion of privacy. They believe that CCTV displaces crime, rather than stopping it, that crime-doers would just go somewhere where there are no cameras instead of just stopping. Because of CCTV being in housing areas now some people believe it to now be a social control measure instead of it being a way to stop crime. 'In 2007, the UK watchdog CameraWatch claimed that the majority of CCTV

Online Shopping

Online Shopping Computers have come a long way since the first one was invented in the early 1900's. We currently live in a society where people can do almost anything on the Internet. You can plan your day ahead, check your horoscope, and look up anything that you can think of. The oncoming trend on the Internet now is online shopping. With online shopping you can buy books, clothes, CD's, and even buy a car. There are many benefits to online shopping and many downfalls. There are many stores to shop online at. Among the many are Gap, Amazon, Marks and Spencer, Ebay, play.com and many more. To online shop all you have to do is follow the instructions that are given on the web page. It is very simple. Some benefits of online shopping are that sometimes you get it at a cheaper price. You can browse everything any store has not just what is at the store you can see back stock and everything. In addition, the most important benefit of all in my opinion is you can shop without leaving your house. You can also shop anytime day or night so if you have a busy schedule then you don't have to fit time in to go to the mall, you can shop at your own time. When comparing two different ways of shopping most people do not even think about, they do both and not even realise it. In today's society people shop while at work, after work and on the weekends, whenever time permits. Did you
