Hardware and Software -IT

Hardware The system requires certain pieces of hardware in order to run properly. These include the following areas of hardware: I have used Excel to create the project. For the actual system for the party planners I would specify the use of a more up-to-date PC system such as a dell vostro 1525 with an Intel core i5 processor system running Windows 7 as the quality of the output will be better and the planner may need to run several versions at the same time. A monitor is required for the system as an output device to display images. CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) monitors are big but have strong screens with glass screens that don't get damaged easily. However, they make quite a lot of heat and noise. They also take up a lot of space due to their size. The more common monitors are the thin TFT (Thin Film Transistors) monitors that take up less space as they are smaller than CRT monitors. They also make less heat and noise than them, but these monitors are more sensitive and a sharp object can permanently damage the screen. Even the colour and contrast isn't as good, which has dull pictures. For JJ party Planners, the best monitor would be a TFT because it takes up less space and makes less noise. The sales assistants won't damage the screens or need high quality pictures so a TFT monitor would be fine as it doesn't cost too much now. The system is more than fast enough,

ICT Developments Report

ICT Developments Report Effects on Business Electronic Data Interchange Electronic Data Interchange is computer-to-computer transmission of information between two companies, including such documents as purchase orders and invoices. This has helped businesses as it means no paperwork, no records to keep on paper, as everything is recorded electronically. Invoices can be sent as soon as orders are made meaning that everything is speeded up and data is automatically logged and recorded. If data is recorded and information is stored quickly then the order process can happen quicker, meaning stock is sent out quicker, making customers more satisfied, which means there is more chance of a customer coming back and sales increasing. Ecommerce Ecommerce has helped businesses a lot as it is very convenient and easy to order and view products from online. Prices of products at different shops can be compared. This can all be done from a computer. There is access to a wide range of products in a very large market. Online customer service makes it better than traditional shopping. "According to Forrester, 37 percent of online consumers use customer service more from Web retailers than traditional retailers because of its potential for ease of use and quick response times." Customers like the ability to be able to see help online via message boards, forums, email, live chat

Designing a database for Type a Flight Travel Agent.

Introduction I have been given a task to make things easier for a travel agent called Type a Flight. Type a Flight is a travel agent which is situated in Warrington and it was established in 1995, it's been 16 years now and it also has about 500 customers and 10 employees. The company does all its work manually. They keep their documents in filing cabinets. So when customers call in to book flights then they have to look in the cabinets for a document. This is very time consuming and due to this problem they could lose a fantastic amount of customers because they could get tired on the phone. Filing cabinets also take up a lot of space. This is getting very difficult and time consuming as the number of customers is rising on a daily basis. One of the problems is that it takes time writing letters by hand .For this problem I have come to the conclusion to make their things easier by making a database for them so it will be effortless for them to sort things out and make bookings, rather than wasting time searching through filling cabinets, plus if they had a database they will have more satisfied customers due to the fact that they will be able to work more quicker using a database. Another advantage of having a database is that they can serve more customers at the same time. One of the problems is that it is time consuming to keep on writing new letters by hand so I have

What Is The Internet?

What Is The Internet? The Internet is a worldwide connection of computers. Many including businesses, governments and universities e.t.c may own these sites. Being 'on the net' means you can access all of the information on these computers from your home computer. You join the net by installing software and set-ups on your system from a certain company e.g. Tiscali and sign up to a price plan with them and then your online. To get connected to the Internet your computer needs to have a modem and then the modem has to be connected the phone through a wire. Through this piece of equipment a normal signal from the phone line is created into digital data in the modem. Modern modems can transfer data at very high rates e.g. broadband and ISDN. You also need software that will enable you to access and view other Internet sites. The World Wide Web usually does this. FTP (File Transfer Protocol.) This is a way of getting files of information or programs from other computers. Many freeware programs use this such as MSN messenger e.t.c. Hundreds of others sites on the net use this program. There are also up to the minute weather satellite photographs and the current NASA projects can be accessed and downloaded via the Internet onto your computer. World Wide Web (WWW.) Users of the World Wide Web use a web browser e.g. Internet explorer e.t.c. and access a search engine such as

Ict and the law

ICT and the Law In this piece of coursework I will be talking about various laws and how they affect myself, Mr James (An Adult with a disability) and Mr Hulse (An adult in employment. There are 4 laws I will be concentrating on: * The DPA * Health and Safety * The CMA * The Copyright, Design and Patents Act DPA (1998) The DPA (Data Protection Act) is a law which enforces how data is collected and stored. It stops it from being misused and transported to countries who do not have similar protection of data. For instance, if a school had the personal data of a student and sold it to someone or gave it away, or pinned it up on a notice board or a wall somewhere, they would be prosecuted by the DPA for misuse of data. The DPA ensures all personal information digitally stored is not used in any other way than necessary, and are not viewed and changed when there is no need to. How would you feel if you applied for a job and someone had changed your GCSE results to a very poor standard, making it near impossible to get the job, or if someone had made all the results really good, you would be given a position and expected to do more work than you can possibly accomplish. What if someone had added one or more offences to your criminal record? This is why the DPA exists. This law covers both digital and written information which is covered from the moment it is created until

Discussing the Internet.

Here I discuss, the most mind blasting, and endless medium that touches the hearts of so many million people-"INTERNET"; the two sides of this coin, its boons and its banes. Is internet a boon or a bane for me? I don't really know. But I am sure it is not any one of it. Maybe I will be able to find the answer for this question if I think about how and what I use the internet for. I use internet mostly for chatting, mailing, project references, entertainment such as music, movies, games, and so on. I am not sure if chatting is advantageous or disadvantageous because it is economical compared to talking through the phone. It is possible to see the other person, and talk to that person at the same time. If a person does not have the knowledge of computer or if the person is illiterate that person would not be able to use this facility. Chatting uses a whole lot of slang words. Slang is used to shorten the message; its aim is to only communicate the message easily. Due to this, these words are reflected in other places of writing. Mailing is time saving but decreases writing skills. The postal department controlled by the government of India is to work in a loss if electronic mailing fully replaces letters. And the postman and other employees of the postal department are to be unemployed. Then a portion of the government income decreases. Due to which, indirectly we are going

Advantages and Disadvantages of ICT

Key skills Key skill 11 ICT has made my project easier to do. Making a catalogue is a long process, involving a lot of design and research plans, using a computer and IT based materials has cut down the time it would take of I had done it manually. For example, before starting to make my catalogue I had to do some research on the items I wanted to advertise, using the internet was a faster more efficient way of doing this. The internet showed the websites I needed to go on that had the right information. If I had not used a computer I would have had to carry task out manually, which is very time consuming, for example, Cropping pictures down to the right size to fit the catalogue. The computer does this accurately and more precise than a human can do, cutting. Also copying and pasting, doing this on a computer, then printing means no Pritt Stick: This can look tacky and bad quality. Using ICT gives the best presentation possible. Key skill 12 There is so much technical equipment in the ICT rooms, precautions need to be taken, so that nobody gets hurt, when I was in the ICT room, I made sure that drinks and food were not near the computers, so that the equipment would operate in the right order. Also I made sure that bags were not left in the walking areas, so that others would not trip over them and hurt themselves. To prevent fires, fore extinguishers were present
