3D - The impact of ICT on the local community Introduction I live in the borough of Waltham Forest. Waltham Forest is quite an advanced community in terms of technology. Technology is used for various things, whether to make them more efficient or to provide a better service. Walthamstow is a small town located within Waltham Forest, which also harbours Leyton and Leytonstone. It is located to the North East of London and bordered to the north by Chingford, to the south by Leyton and Leytonstone, to the east by Epping Forest, to the west by Tottenham and the River Lea valley. Walthamstow is identified by the London plan as one of the 35 major centres in Greater London. Walthamstow's market is one of the longest daily outdoor markets in Europe and dominates the High Street. There are various shops lined along the high street with some high-end chain brands to several individually opened stalls that specialise in food, fabrics, household goods and other such stuff. The Mall in Selborne Walk is the largest place in the area to find lots of different brand shops selling high-end goods manufactured and produced to the mass public via corporations instead of individual businesses. The individual businesses tend to be all located outside on the high street. The central library has also recently been refurbished and modernised. It was expanded from 2006-2007 to hold a wider range

ICT Evaluation of my materials produced for a "Get Moving" health campaign.

Jay Afruz Evaluation Logo My logo is suited for its audience as it is simple to understand and gets the message across quickly – to get up and get moving. The audience for my logo is teenagers; teenagers want information given to them quickly and simply which is what my logo does. The purpose of my logo is to promote the Get Up, Get Moving campaign and to be used on variety of other tools and content which I created so that the user can identify that the product they are using is from the Get Up, Get Moving project. My logo was easy to adapt which allowed me to easily use it on content for example when using my logo on my website I didn’t want the background of the logo to be white on my website which had green background as it would make my website look unprofessional so I adapted my logo so that the white background was transparent this made the overall appearance of my website better as it no longer looked unprofessional. On the final version of my logo it was suggested that I animate the man in my logo so that it got the point across that Get Up, Get Moving is about keeping active via exercise and taking part in sports. To animate my character I could use the animation tool in Photoshop, if I were to animate my character I would make him run then do star jumps and then loop this animation so he is continually running or doing star jumps. Also it was suggested that I

History of the Internet

ASSIGNMENT 1 Development of the Internet E-Commerce, BTEC National Diploma in Computing, year 1 To: Adam Smith From: Marina Guseva Date: 31 October 2002 History of the Internet The global communications network has come a long way since 1969, when a few room-sized machines connected four universities in America, to today where the internet underpins corporate networking. In 1957 The USSR launches Sputnik, the first artificial earth satellite. In response, the United States forms the Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) within the Department of Defense (DoD) to establish US lead in science and technology applicable to the military. They were trying to figure out an important strategic problem: they needed a military network that could survive a nuclear strike, decentralized so that if any locations (cities) in the U.S. were attacked, the military could still have control. Communicational network of the day was chained point-to-point which meant that each link was dependent on the link before it. This is when an idea of a complex network connection was conceived, the new structure would allow information to find its own way to the destination point even if some part of the network would be destroyed. 961 In July Leonard Kleinrock publishes the first paper on packet switching theory, which forms the basis for the creation of the Internet. 965 Ted Nelson

Planning- design a memo, letter and webpage for Capital FM.

The Identify By Arun Bir 8H 1/26/2009 Langley Grammar School GSCE ICT COURSEWORK - Word Processing Project The Identify Introduction The name of my company I work for at the moment is "Capital FM". The person who owns the company is a man called George Mulalay. He works at the station making sure everything is satisfactory. The manager is known to me as he is an old school friend of my fathers. The Company is a radio station. They play music and every hour they will report the news. They also hold competitions and advertise companies. This is how we make most of our money. The company I work for has existed for three years next month on the 1st of November. The company is not a huge company; it's just not very small either. The rent we pay for our studio, where Capital FM is run, proves to be a huge financial demand. The address is "2 Clifford gardens, Hayes, Middlesex, UB3 1NX. The company at present has seven employees, include the presenters and the cleaners. The company has a reasonable listening audience although more finances would help us to expand this clientele. The company is successful; it brings in enough money to pay off all the employees and allows the manager to make a profit. It is just not as extensive as the manager has hoped yet. I have been called into help advertise the company and help fix some of their ICT solutions. In order to do this, I

John's parents decided to buy a computer which can help John with his work at college and home. As an IT Manager I can help John's parents to choose the right computer and what is needed to support his courses and hobbies. In order to help John's parents to buy a suitable computer for John he needs a dell computer which is a computer with good quality. The positive thing about having a computer is that it makes it easier to finish off his work or carry on with it. He should change his computer to the German language which makes it easier for him to do his a-levels in German. The internet could also help him to research any doubts he has or help, which is needed for his course. If he wants to, he could buy the computer in English and change it into German but the software for that will be needed or he can buy a German computer at any special ICT shops who also sell German computers. He also needs to have Microsoft publisher- or word 2007 to produce his leaflets for the local conservative party. The Use of ICT in the Wider World.

AO4 The Use of ICT in the Wider World ICT (Information Computer Technology) is used throughout the world in many different and interesting ways. In fact without ICT the world would not be as it is now. I am going to research the many ways that ICT is used throughout the world. Computers in Shops Not all shops use ICT but the ones that do find every day things such as stock control very quick and easy. * Bar codes are the patterns of thin black lines you find on most products. These bar codes are then scanned by a computer to which will then give the price of the product and this can also be used for stock control. The computer then reduces the recorded stock of the product. And when the stocks fall below a pre-set amount called the 're-order level'. An order for more stock is automatically sent to the shops warehouse or supplier. This type of system will be mainly used in supermarkets. But smaller shops might have a smaller simplified version of this. * Debit payment is where you pay for the items that you have purchased with a debit of credit card instead of cash. The customer will hand over their credit or debit card, it is then swiped, the bank will be contacted, the customer has to sign a receipt to verify that it is their card and the money will be deducted from their bank account. Or in the case of a credit card it will be added to their account ready for them to

Ict and the law

ICT and the Law In this piece of coursework I will be talking about various laws and how they affect myself, Mr James (An Adult with a disability) and Mr Hulse (An adult in employment. There are 4 laws I will be concentrating on: * The DPA * Health and Safety * The CMA * The Copyright, Design and Patents Act DPA (1998) The DPA (Data Protection Act) is a law which enforces how data is collected and stored. It stops it from being misused and transported to countries who do not have similar protection of data. For instance, if a school had the personal data of a student and sold it to someone or gave it away, or pinned it up on a notice board or a wall somewhere, they would be prosecuted by the DPA for misuse of data. The DPA ensures all personal information digitally stored is not used in any other way than necessary, and are not viewed and changed when there is no need to. How would you feel if you applied for a job and someone had changed your GCSE results to a very poor standard, making it near impossible to get the job, or if someone had made all the results really good, you would be given a position and expected to do more work than you can possibly accomplish. What if someone had added one or more offences to your criminal record? This is why the DPA exists. This law covers both digital and written information which is covered from the moment it is created until

Hardware and Software -IT

Hardware The system requires certain pieces of hardware in order to run properly. These include the following areas of hardware: I have used Excel to create the project. For the actual system for the party planners I would specify the use of a more up-to-date PC system such as a dell vostro 1525 with an Intel core i5 processor system running Windows 7 as the quality of the output will be better and the planner may need to run several versions at the same time. A monitor is required for the system as an output device to display images. CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) monitors are big but have strong screens with glass screens that don't get damaged easily. However, they make quite a lot of heat and noise. They also take up a lot of space due to their size. The more common monitors are the thin TFT (Thin Film Transistors) monitors that take up less space as they are smaller than CRT monitors. They also make less heat and noise than them, but these monitors are more sensitive and a sharp object can permanently damage the screen. Even the colour and contrast isn't as good, which has dull pictures. For JJ party Planners, the best monitor would be a TFT because it takes up less space and makes less noise. The sales assistants won't damage the screens or need high quality pictures so a TFT monitor would be fine as it doesn't cost too much now. The system is more than fast enough,

Evaluation of my ICT Database, Spreadsheet and Newsletter

Josh MckeithFinal Evaluation 05/01/2012 Health and Safety I followed the school rules, and didn’t bring any food/drink into any computer rooms that could be damaging the electrical appliances if any beverages split on it. I didn’t bring my bag or coat into the classroom to reduce chance of someone tripping over, and I made sure that all wires were safely under my desk so that no-one could trip over them. When it was sunny and I was sat facing a computer I made sure that the blinds were closed so that I didn’t get a headache. When I had a double lesson we had a 5minute break between the 2 periods. This was to reduce chances of getting a headache, poor circulation or even backache. I adjusted my chair’s height so that my eyes were at the same level as the screen to reduce eye strain. I watched out for any trailing cables from the mouse or headphones and I used wrist rests to prevent RSI. Security I made sure that I never told anyone my password, or that I didn’t write it down so that no one could alter my work in any way, or delete it. I had no internet access so no viruses could be downloaded. I saved my work regularly just in case of a power cut, or if I knocked the wires, or if some other thing happened. My work was regularly backed up, every night, and saved on an external hard-drive. I followed safe, healthy and secure working times at all times. I can
