How does the year group of a person affect IQ?
I looked at the sample of 50 people that I had taken and took particular notice of the ‘year group’ and ‘IQ’ columns. Using these columns I plotted a scatter diagram to show my results. I plotted the year group on the X – axis and the IQ up the Y – axis. The scatter graph is shown on the next page.

To represent my results to this question I used Histograms. I decided to use a group width of 10, and below are the plans for the histograms of both males and females.

RESULTS
How does a persons year group affect their IQ?
To show my results, I used a scatter graph. From the graph, you can clearly tell that there is no correlation between year group and IQ. We can tell this because the data is widely spread and we are unable to draw in a line of best fit. Although we can’t determine any correlation, we can tell that there is a wider spread of information as the year group goes up. In year 7, the IQ’s ranged from 100 to 108, whilst the IQ’s in year 11 ranged from 90 to 131.
There is one result missing from the graph. This is because their IQ was displayed as 290, and I find this to be an anomalous result.
How does the Type of Music a Person Listens to affect their IQ?
To show my results, I used another scatter diagram. From the graph, you can see that it is quite evenly spread out, with only a few exceptions. The Classical section shows to contain people with a higher IQ. There is an anomalous result, which has not been added onto the scatter graph. It is the same person as the first question, who’s IQ was shown as 290.
We can determine from the scatter graph that those who listen to Garage music have an averagely lower IQ. This is also false though, as only 4 of the 50 people listen to Garage music. My results would be more accurate if the same amount of people listened to each type of music.
How Does Gender Affect a Persons IQ?
To show my results here, I used 2 histograms. I decided to use a group width of 10. We can determine from the histograms that the boys are more spread out than the girls. This is because the blocks at the lowest and highest columns are higher than the girls’; so evidently, all the girls have an average IQ across the school. I suspect that the lower IQ’s came from the earlier years and also, from the male histogram, that the boys are getting significantly smarter as they grow older. I think that this is where the male higher IQ’s show.
I could have made my results more accurate by taking the same amount of boys and girls. Also, one result is missing. This is the male with the anomalous IQ of 290.
