Edexcel Applied Business Unit 11 Finance Task C

Unit 11 Task C - Impact of finance of business decisions When making an investment it is important that business decide the best thing to invest their money in. To make these decisions businesses often use investment appraisal. There are three main methods of investment appraisal and these are; Payback, Accounting rate of return (ARR) and Net present value. Payback Payback shows how long it takes to earn the initial investment cost back. Payback is usually calculated in years and sometimes months for a more precise result. Firm usually hope for payback ASAP this will show that the investment has paid off well and has been the right decision for the business. Payback is calculated by looking at the inflows, outflows and net flow of a business from the start of the investment, and then working out the cumulative. When the cumulative reaches 0 this shows that the cost of the investment has been paid off and you can see how many year it will take. To work out the months you look at the year when the investment has been paid off and divide the net flow by 12 which is the number of months in the year. This shows the average net flow for a month. Then by looking at the cumulative you can see how much money is needed from the month before the investment is paid off. You then divide this figure by the net flow made every month. This will then give you the number of months that

Unit 2 People in business Stakeholders Stakeholders are a group of people who have an interest in 'Flybe' and an influence on the company, some stakeholders are internal to the firm, and others are external. Customers - Customers make up the main frame of 'Flybe'. Without the customers the company would not be taking off as the third cheapest airline in Great Britain. The customers basically say what they want and when 'Flybe' decided to be one of the cheapest airlines, they had to listen to their customers and new customers. Without theses people criticising the company and giving the company advice, Flybe probably wouldn't be well known as it is today. Customers which use 'Flybe' are prepared to lose some customer satisfaction for a cheaper flight, they expect some sort of film if they are on a higher-class flight and even something to eat and drink included. But other 'Flybe' customers who choose the cheaper option expect the basics and nothing extra. Employees - The employees include the manager and the whole staff in the Flybe Company. Critical appraisal 1: "The Yellow Wallpaper" by Charlotte Perkins Gilman

Critical appraisal 1: "The Yellow Wallpaper" by Charlotte Perkins Gilman Instructor: Dr. Sally Carpentier Due to: July 9th, 2008 Compiled by: Tamila Shamiryan Vancouver Island University This short story "The Yellow Wallpaper" was written by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. "The Yellow Wallpaper" begins with a women being diagnosed with temporary nervous depression. She is prescribed with lots of rest and is forced to stay in a room with nothing to do but look at some yellow wallpaper. This causes the woman to go gradually insane; but, other than the wallpaper, there are far better reasons for her insanity: Her husband, John, superior males and society. The story has a spectacular ending with the wife finally dominating her husband, but, at the cost of her sanity. Women are meant to be housewives in this period. "I did write for a while in spite of them; but it does exhaust me a good deal -- having to be too sly about it, or else meet with heavy opposition." Using the phrase "in spite of them" shows that no one was really in favor of her writing. This includes the women. Her use of "having to be too sly about it" shows that she doesn't like the secretiveness as she uses "too". This makes me suspicious to how far society has a dislike for her writing as she has to be overly sly when doing it. The woman is unconventional and therefore looked down on by society. She does not

Kudler Foods has completed several steps in restructuring and reorganizing its organization, and will now determine an appropriate performance appraisal system that will meet the evaluation needs of the six store positions: store manager, cashier, departm

Performance Appraisal MMHRM/592 Performance Appraisal "Performance appraisals are probably the most misused and abused management tool in history" (Albright, 2009). The reason is that it becomes an awkward meeting between management and employees because appraisals are completed "for the wrong reasons and from the wrong perspective" (Albright, 2009). This is especially stressful and time consuming if the appraisal system is poorly developed or if the evaluator has not been provided the appropriate training to administer the evaluation, collect and evaluate the performance data. (Milkovich-Newman, 2004, p. 80) Performance appraisals are often criticized in that they are seen as individual threats to employees and can become a threat to supervisors, fail to provide a consistent performance definition, lead to stereotyping, and have previously been used in lawsuits for improper wording and insinuations. Performance appraisals are designed to provide constructive feedback on employee performance, point out areas of additional training needs, provide an opportunity for communication between employee and manager, and provide data that assists management to determine if a salary increase is warranted. Kudler Foods has completed several steps in restructuring and reorganizing its organization, and will now determine an appropriate performance appraisal system that will meet

How would you organise your People in your Business?

How would you organise your People in your Business? Human resource management is the responsibility of using and developing the organisation's personnel in the most productive way. The basic functions of human resource management are; workforce planning, recruitment, training and development, appraisal, and reward systems. In my opinion the workforce is the most valued asset, who individually and collectively contribute to the achievement of company objectives. Workforce planning is an important area of HRM. It ensures that the firm has the right number of staff, the right quality, in the right place and at the right time. A workforce strategy must be set, which is influenced by supply and demand. If the supply of labour exceeds the firm's demand I would make redundancies or staff may be redeployed or retrained. If the demand for labour is greater than the labour supply recruitment costs will rise. A well-organized business will have forecasts and projections of its future staffing needs. Recruitment and selection is selecting the right person for the right job. Time and money is however devoted to recruitment. Job analysis (an investigation into the demands of a job to identify the tasks and skills required to draw up a job description) is important for successful recruitment. Human resource management will also need to evaluate the most effective recruitment methods.

FAMILY AND BUSINESS

Abstract The literature is surrounded by debates to form a link between human resource management and performance. According to scholars High performance work practices can increase the commitment of employees which can then affect firm performance. This dissertation was carried out on a single firm to capture a detailed analysis. The firm was specifically chosen because it does not have any human resource department or any high performance work practices system for the employees. The main aim of the dissertation was to study the reasons behind employee commitment, how employee commitment leads to performance and to asses if the inclusion of human resource function can act as a catalyst to increase commitment leading to the performance of employees. It was purely a qualitative study. 10 non managers and 4 managers working in various departments of the Karim Associates were interviewed. The main factors of employee commitment were found to be the employers, work environment, flexibility and the management structure and the factors influencing employee commitment to performance were found to be employer's and manager's trust and expectation from their employees, the employees were being treated like a family and took pride to work for the organization. The study revealed that although a majority of the employees seemed to be commitment and said that they were putting in
