physics: time period of a pendulum PLAN: String Ruler B A Weight Stand Desk Timer The time period for a pendulum is the time taken for the pendulum to swing from one point to another (i.e. from A to B and back again) I need to record this time period, but it is too short, so I will time 10 periods and then divide the final time by 10 to give me the time of one pendulum time period. When doing this experiment I will need to take in account the three variables; Displacement, the mass of the pendulum, and the length of the string that the pendulum is attached to. I have decided to vary the variables in the following way: Displacement (0) 80 20 Length Of String (cm) 80 20 Mass Of Pendulum (g) 200 500 I have chosen to use this figures because they are wide apart and I will find out how many figures I will need to use in my final experiment. In my preliminary experiments I am only going to vary one variable at a time, when I use mass as a constant I will set it as 100g, this is because it is not too small a value and it is not too big. When I set length of string as a constant I will 60 cm, this because it is an average value. When I set displacement as a constant I will set it as 50 degrees, this is because I tested 90 degrees and it was too big a displacement so I lowered the value to 50 degrees. Shereen Chee . To what degree is emotion biological or "hard-wired", and hence universal to all human beings? To what extent is it shaped by culture and hence displayed differently in different societies? As humans, we tend to have emotions. This is because it is inborn and we do not require teachings on how to use this instinctive state of mind. This is clearly proven by babies, who are able to laugh and cry without being taught how to. In other words, we are able to respond to a circumstance before we even learn how to pronounce a simple syllable. This further suggests that emotion is universal for nationality, race, and religion do not influence the fact that humans can feel different emotions given different situations. However, the situation that can evoke a particular emotion may vary across cultures. It is through culture in which the cause of the expression is shaped. For example, my friends and I watched a clip of a skateboarder falling down from a steep flight of stairs in "World's Most Funniest Videos" and I noticed that white friends laughed at it while the asians put on a disgusted face. This shows the influence that culture has on the emotions that we express towards a particular situation. It could be argued that this is a hasty generalized statement. However, the title of the show itself suggests that it was supposed to funny and not surprisingly, this show

Gender representation is a major part of many sitcoms and I will be looking into why this is, and how they are represented comically. Resistance of a wire Background Information What is resistance? Resistance is anything that causes an opposition to the flow of electricity in a circuit. Everything in the circuit causes a resistance! The higher the resistance in a wire, the more collisions there are inside the wire and the harder it is to push the electrons around the circuit. Ohm's Law R = V/I A steady increase in voltage, in a circuit with constant resistance, produces a constant linear rise in current. A steady increase in resistance, in a circuit with constant voltage, produces a progressively weaker current. Current is directly proportional to voltage and inversely proportional to resistance. This means that the higher the voltage, the higher the current, assuming resistance is kept constant. Resistance is the opposition to current flow. So if voltage is kept constant, the higher the resistance is, the lower the current will be. e.g. 6? = 24V/4A 8? = 24V/3A Here resistance has been increased slightly, voltage has remained constant and current has dropped slightly. There are many things that affect the resistance of a wire: Temperature of wire - If the wire is heated up the atoms in the wire will start to vibrate because of their increase in energy. Introduction- chromatography is a technique used to separate the components of a mixture by making use of differences in solubility of the components. It can be used to separate such complex mixtures as the amino acids in blood or the various pigments in the flowers of a plant. In this experiment, the components of screened methyl orange which is a mixture of methyl orange (C14H14N3NaO3S) and xylene cyanol (C25H27N2NaO6S2) are separated through the use of water as a solvent. Aim-To determine which dye in screened methyl orange is more soluble in water. Apparatus-screened methyl orange, chromatography paper (10cm X 2.5cm), 250cm3 beaker, fine dropper, retort stand. Method- . A horizontal line was drawn on the chromatography paper 1.5cm above the bottom line 2. Some of the screened methyl orange was taken in the fine dropper and a spot of .5cm in diameter was made on the horizontal line. 3. 20cm3 of distilled water was poured into the 250cm3 beaker 4. The top of the chromatography paper was clamped to the retort stand and the lowered into the beaker ensuring that the spot of dye didn't touch the water. 5. The water was allowed time to rise then the chromatography paper was removed from the retort stand and the distance between the origin and the component was recorded. Observations-
