The most common type of transactional websites offer goods such as books, electronics, and food. However there are also websites that offer other type of goods and services such as travelling tickets, downloadable games/software or online movies. In most cases these websites were created by large companies and supermarket chains, whereas there are also some where the general public can sell their own goods. Examples for this are Play.com and Amazon.com. My Transactional Website (LatestDVD9) The transactional website that I have chosen to investigate is LatestDVD9.com. This is a website that sells a variety of movies on DVDs. The website sells only movies on DVDs including mainly Hollywood and also a few Bollywood movies. It is a very popular DVD selling website because customers can find almost every Hollywood movie they are looking for, no matter how old it is. There are even movies available that came out more than 65 years ago. Purpose As the name of the website tells it, its purpose is mainly to sell DVDs. The website is to sell the latest films that have just come out in cinemas on DVDs and sell these mainly in the United States. However in the FAQs it is written that the website also sells across the world to

Effect of nitrate concentration on the growth of Duckweeds

Introduction & Method At the beginning of the experiment, I put on a lab coat to protect myself from any danger that may occur. I made sure that all my equipments were clean and dry before I started, and I also measured the temperature of the room to confirm it was around room temperature. I then made sure that the ice cube tray was clean, I put a little label on one end of the tray to indicate my starting point row of the ice cube tray. I then made a little note to myself that the label indicated the row which will contain the 0.0% x 10-3 concentration of nitrate in the solution, and the rows onwards will contain the concentration of nitrogen in solution in ascending orders which I will use (0.0, 0.4, 0.8, 1.2, 1.6 and 2.4 % x 10-3). I Whilst pouring the solutions into a glass beaker I put on goggles and gloves to protect my eyes and hands from any contacts with the ammonium nitrate solution, as any contact can lead to irritation of the skin and eye. I poured 80-90cm3 of the 1st concentration which contained 0.0% x 10-3 of nitrate into a 100cm3 glass beaker. Next I used a clean syringe to measure out 25cm3 of the solution into the 1st well (near my label). The tray had 3 wells in a row and there were 6 rows, I repeatedly added 25 cm3 of the same ammonium nitrate solution into the remaining two wells of that row, so that I will obtain a result of three replicates with each

INTRODUCTION The necessary conditions For a seed to germinate there are specific conditions different seeds need. In this experiment, cress seeds are to be used. Going through the basics first though, for a seed to successfully germinate there needs to be: o An adequate supply of water o A suitable temperature o An appropriate partial pressure of oxygen o A suitable supply of light Water uptake is a crucial part of the necessary conditions because germination can only commence after the uptake of water by the seed. Water absorption is imbibition. The optimum temperature for germination is the optimum for the enzymes involved in mobilisation of food reserves, provided that other factors are not limiting. This temperature varies from species to species (i.e. 1 - 45°C). Respiration makes available the energy for metabolism and growth. Germinating seeds respire very rapidly, and require oxygen for aerobic respiration. Seeds will not germinate in the total absence of oxygen. Diffusion of oxygen through the testa may be slow, however, and in the early stages of germination seeds may rely on some anaerobic respiration, at least until the testa has ruptured. So this explains why water, oxygen and a suitable temperature are needed for germination, therefore

Hypothesis: A substance, when dissolved in water, has a natural desire to dilute itself by bonding with surrounding water molecules. When a semi permeable membrane, such as a cell membrane separates two solutions, pure water flows from the weaker solution to dilute the stronger one until they are both the same strength. The term used to describe the flow of water through a semi permeable membrane separating two solutions of different concentrations is osmosis. In other words, osmosis is the process in which water passes in and out of plant cells thus controlling their turgidity. It is in fact the diffusion of water from places of high water concentration to places of low water concentration and can take place only across a selectively permeable membrane - such as the cell membrane. The cell membrane allows small molecules such as those of water to diffuse through it. However, larger molecules such as those of sucrose can not pass through its pores.
