'We are the custodians of our planet. Investigate the extent to which humankind has failed to uphold its responsibility' It is said that human beings are the custodians and trustees of God's creation. Our responsibility is to act as 'stewards' of the world God has created for us. The Bible discloses Christian stewardship and the human responsibility of the created universe clearly and explicitly in Genesis. It outlines what God has created us for and what he expects of us as humans- created in 'his image' - as described in Genesis 1:26-301. But have we ignored this responsibility? The world has upheld its responsibility, to some extent, by developing the Kyoto protocol, as its main objective is to reduce its greenhouse gases that cause climate change. The European Union, as well as several other important countries, have signed up to the treaty to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to the levels specified within the treaty. This indicates that the global community has recognized the need of reducing emissions, and has considered our 'stewardship' our number one priority. The carbon footprint is the means by which we can estimate how much both individuals and businesses contribute to the greenhouse gases; it is a 'measure of the impact human activities have on the environment in terms of the amount of greenhouse gases produced, measured in units of carbon dioxide'. It is thus

Use the options on the left to learn more about WWF's work to preserve wild places, save endangered species, and address global threats. History of WWF In 1961, the entire natural world seemed to be under siege. A limited number of organizations around the world, such as IUCN (the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources) and The Conservation Foundation, were trying to meet conservation needs, but they were all desperately short of funds. A small but influential group of Europeans-scientists, naturalists, and business and political leaders-rose to the occasion. In September of that year, they founded World Wildlife Fund. Several leaders-Sir Julian Huxley, noted

Science is a structure built on facts. (J.J.DAVIES) Discuss the account of science. To what extent is it a supportable proposition? Science is an accurate method where experiments are performed and facts are observed. It's used to seek objective knowledge and understanding of the world. These facts that science is based on are supposed to be claims about the world that can be directly established by a careful, unprejudiced use of the senses. Science has to be objective and thus it's based on what we can hear, see, touch rather than on personal opinions. If the observations made by science about the world are carried out in a careful, unprejudiced way then the facts established in this approach will compose a solid and secure foundation for science. Empiricists claimed that scientific knowledge should in some way be derived from the facts arrived at by sense experience. Science is based on inductive reasoning, this is making a number of observations of some aspect of the world and all these observations seem to tell us the same thing. On the basis of this, we assume that every other example of this aspect of the world, including all those that we have not yet observed, is going to tell us the same. For example: many years ago every swan observed by an individual in New Zealand was white. Everyone believed that swans were only white and why not? All they ever came across

Can the British Education System be described as "uninspiring"?

Transfer-Encoding: chunked General Studies: Education System As a country Britain fell into the top twenty at place six in 2014 regarding its exam results, however the same year its system was criticised by the Eton Headmaster Tony Little as “un-imaginative”, “un-inspiring” and “un-preparing for the modern world” through this essay it will be considered to what extent these statements are true and the possible ways in which our education system may be improved. Unchanged since Victorian England our education system is considered to be conservative with its policy and was described as “out-dated and archaic” by the Eton headmaster, the fact is true and links to how we are currently trying to attempt to copy the highly academic schooling offered in areas such as the far East which is ironic considering those countries are now looking at the value of providing children with a more rounded, creative education. Alongside this our education system has been institutionalised since the beginning in primary school, all students are grouped by age, forced to wear uniform, and begin and end school at exactly the same time creating a black and white learning environment throughout all key stages with no variation what so ever, this statement can be backed up by a survey taken by EDGE (a charity promoting practical causes of education) where 8/10 students stated that

The Global Problem of Counterfeit Medicine

Counterfeit medicine By John Smith Counterfeit medicine by John Smith What is medicine? Medicines are chemicals or compounds made to cure, prevent or stop disease and relief symptoms or diagnose certain illnesses. Medicines are ultimately used to save lives, not just in humans but also in other life forms. Different types of medicines and how their made? Medicines come from a range of sources; they come from our biosphere in nature in places such as the Amazon rainforest. For example, the Curare plant is a large poisonous vine rich in alkaloids. The alkaloids relax muscles and are used as an arrow poison. In South America, it is used to treat bruises, fever, edema, and kidney stones. Other medicines are produced in laboratories by incorporating together a number of chemicals. In other cases such as penicillin; they are a derivative of organisms such as fungus. A few medicines are even biologically engineered by inserting genes into bacteria that make them produce the desired substance. Ways on how to take medicine * Liquids that are swallowed (like cough syrup) * Drops that are put into ears or eyes * Creams, gels, or ointments that are rubbed onto the skin * Inhalers (like nasal sprays or asthma inhalers) * Patches that are stuck to skin (called transdermal patches) * Tablets that are placed under the tongue (called sublingual medicines; the

Should the Death penalty be re-introduced?

Should the death penalty be reintroduced? The death penalty or execution is the sentence of death upon a person by the state as a punishment for an offence. Crimes that can result in a death penalty are known as capital crimes or capital offences. Execution of criminals and political opponents has been used by nearly all societies—both to punish crime and to suppress political dissent. In most places that practice capital punishment it is reserved for murder, espionage, treason, or as part of military justice. In some countries sexual crimes, such as rape, adultery, incest and sodomy, carry the death penalty. However in Great Britain the death penalty was abolished in the 1960’s with last executions taking place, by hanging, in 1964. Arguably there are cases which debate that the death penalty should be reintroduced however there’s also a counter argument in which cases argued are equally as rated. The death penalty shouldn’t be used for a variety of reason. Just one of them is the cost. Financial costs to taxpayers of capital punishment are several times that of keeping someone in prison for life. Most people don't realize that carrying out one death sentence costs 2-5 times more than keeping that same criminal in prison for the rest of his life. How can this be? It has to do with the endless appeals, additional required

Discuss the statement " Art changes the world as much as government and politicians do"

“Artists have a say, and what they say can change the world as much as politician can” Speech Against and For I am going to argue that art doesn’t change the world as much as government and politician do. All individuals are living in a society ruled by the government and laws which influence people’s behaviour also having new laws and protests have changed the way people lives and have change the world. For example the march on Washington (1963) after America became unified in its quest for independence it was the biggest political demonstration ever staged in the United States, and a day that would quickly become part of the national narrative. Another example would be the Iraq war Protest (2003) America's invasion of Iraq evoked worldwide outrage and anti-war protestors took to the streets to display their opposition to what they perceived as more needless deaths. Also The President of The Unites States Barack Obama has forever changed the history of American presidency. He added a new chapter, to how he is the first African American president. There are five specific areas where civil society has made very important political and social contributions. These are: women’s right, ecological justice and environment protection, human rights of ethnic, religious, race, and sexual minorities’ movements for citizens’ participation and accountable

Socio-economic status as a bane

World Literature Assignment 1 Topic - Socio-economic Status as a bane "So Long a Letter" by Mariama Ba "Chronicle of a Death Foretold" by Gabriel Garcia "It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife" (Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen) This essay will look at Gabriel Garcia's Chronicle of a Death Foretold and Mariama Ba's So Long a letter in relation to the topic 'Social and Economic Status as a bane of women Empowerment'. Gabriel Garcia and Mariama Ba in their works have depicted women's eagerness for social and economic status to empower themselves. Women were shown to have gone as far as destroying their children's happiness for their own desires and satisfactions. For example a number of them have used their daughters by marrying them off to men in possession of a good fortune, regardless of what their daughters felt about the men. The women in the forefront who were in the lookout for social and economic status to empower themselves were Pura Vicario from Chronicle of a Death Foretold, Binetou's and Ramatoulaye's mothers and Aunty Nabou, from So Long a Letter. However there are a number of women which were portrayed differently, namely, Ramatoulaye and Aissatou in So Long a Letter, and Alberta Simonds in Chronicle of a Death Foretold. Women especially from especially lower class used their
