Both Hitler's parents had come from poor peasant families. His father Alois Hitler, the illegitimate son of a housemaid, was an intelligent and ambitious man and later became a senior customs official. Klara Hitler was Alois' third wife. Alois was twenty-three years older than Klara and already had two children from his previous marriages. Klara and Alois had five children but only Adolf and a younger sister, Paula, survived to become adults. Alois, who was fifty-one when Adolf was born, was extremely keen for his son to do well in life. Alois did have another son by an earlier marriage but he had been a big disappointment to him and eventually ended up in prison for theft. Alois was a strict father and savagely beat his son if he did not do as he was told. Hitler did extremely well at primary school and it appeared he had a bright academic future in front of him. He was also popular with other pupils and was much admired for his leadership qualities. He was also a deeply religious child and for a while considered the possibility

The History of Conflict in Ireland.

The History of this Conflict An American audience may find it difficult to comprehend the sense of history which is in the Irish conflict. It goes back to the 1920s when the island was partitioned, and Catholics in Northern Ireland believed that they were on the wrong side of that border, and believed that they had been done out of their political heritage. But Protestants have a sense of history which goes back to at least the seventeenth century, where from the time of the plantation of Ulster at the beginning of the 1600s, they have had to look to their own resources to ensure that they remained in control in the north of Ireland because they'd lost control in the rest of Ireland. So what you have are two sides with a very strong sense of history, a history in which they believed themselves to be victims, Catholics believed themselves to be victims, Protestants believed themselves to be victims, so they had two clashing senses of history. And as long as they had that selective sense of history, then they could do anything in the present and use history as to justify what they did in the present. And that is why history is such a potent force in the Irish conflict. You must remember that Ireland had been Britain's oldest colonial problem, oldest unsolved colonial problem. She was dismantling empire here, there and everywhere; the one question she could never settle

OCR GCSE Business & Communication Task 7 Report

Task 7 Reports Task 1a: Logo Software: The software I used was Adobe Fireworks CS3. I used Fireworks because it offered a wide range of tools and textures. For my logo to stand out and be able to have anything it required I had to use this programme. I also have a lot of background use and knowledge of this programme, which meant I could use it more efficiently and effectively. Other programmes such as Photoshop or Microsoft Word do not offer such tools and would degrade my logo altogether. I could have used a variety of programmes such as Photoshop or Freehand, these are both programmes, which could have fulfilled my requirement, but lack in certain tools and effects. These programme lack in quality tools and would overall reduce the professionalism of my work. Photoshop offers tools for changing and editing pictures, this is not suitable as my logo had to be original and have new ideas published into it. Freehand does not suit the needs of my task as it is based upon opposite targets of my logo. My logo had to be original and incorporate a lot of professional and advert sable ideas and I think using these programmes, I would not be able to achieve these targets. I am confident I used the right programme, as 'Adobe Fireworks' is very effective in creating new ideas and adding personal preferences towards it. It also has a wide range of colour effects and variety

My Project On Artificial Satellites.

INTRODUCTION Space Exploration, quest to use space travel to discover the nature of the universe beyond Earth. Since ancient times, people have dreamed of leaving their home planet and exploring other worlds. In the later half of the 20th century, that dream became reality. The space age began with the launch of the first artificial satellites in 1957. A human first went into space in 1961. Since then, astronauts and cosmonauts have ventured into space for ever greater lengths of time, even living aboard orbiting space stations for months on end. Two dozen people have circled the moon or walked on its surface. At the same time, robotic explorers have journeyed where humans could not go, visiting all but one of the solar system's major worlds. Unpiloted spacecraft have also visited a host of minor bodies such as moons, comets, and asteroids. These explorations have sparked the advance of new technologies, from rockets to communications equipment to computers. Spacecraft studies have yielded a bounty of scientific discoveries about the solar system, the Milky Way Galaxy, and the universe. And they have given humanity a new perspective on the earth and its neighbors in space. The first challenge of space exploration was developing rockets powerful enough and reliable enough to boost a satellite into orbit. These boosters needed more than brute force, however; they also

Jack the Ripper - Whitechapel in the 1880's.

Introduction It was the month of August, the year of 1888, the destination of Whitechapel, a killer who got the name as Jack the Ripper for his horrifying murders. The name "Ripper" associated well with what he actually did to his victims, he didn't just murder them, he had to go further. He brutally murdered five women in the East End of London. The women he aimed at were around the age 40, apart from one of his victims, who were only 25 years of age. These victims were prostitutes that sold their body for money so that they could sleep inside in the warm for just one night. Well the five victims weren't so lucky on the nights they were murdered. Whitechapel in the 1880's It was mainly Jewish people who lived in the area of Whitechapel. This was because the rent for houses was very low, as the area had very bad living conditions. Also, few questions were asked about the Jews as well, so the Jews had another reason to be in the grotty area. The living conditions of Whitechapel during this time were terrible. "Filthy men and women living on gin, where collars and clean shirts are unknown; where every citizen wears a black eye and never combs his hair." This shows how both men and women drunk alcoholic drinks, well lived on the drink. This also shows how their shirts were always dirty and never washed and showed the average appearance of a man "wears a black eye...never
