B evaluation

B evaluation How many people would agree to this statement that 'There should be no rich as long as there is poverty in this world.' Some people would agree to this statement and say there are so many people that are poor, homeless, and unhappy. Unfortunately, the rich keeps getting richer and the poor is getting poorer. They believe in sharing wealth more equally. The rich seems to be very insensitive, snobby, and arrogant people. If you see that someone is trying their hardest to survive, and you think they need a helping hand, then it would be nice to help them. If they aren't trying, then that's a different story. There are many poor people trying to survive in this world. Is it fair that 25% of people of this world own 80% of world's wealth, Christians believe in sharing when one's spirits are down. The Bible says "Share with all your neighbours wherever they maybe." Jesus explained in the parable of the Sheep and the Goats that we would be judged on how well we had helped the poor. Jews are taught they should be fair and kind to the poor who have a right to share in the good things of the earth. The Torah says Jews have to share their wealth with the poor. Muslims must share their wealth as it is one of the Five Pillars of Islam. Islam teaches that wealth is something given by Allah for the benefit of humanity. Some people would also disagree to this statement and say

Presidents and their Successors

Sami Migliaccio Mrs. Trovato Period #3 April 21, 2008 Essay Question: "Vice President who have succeeded to the presidency on the death of the President have been less effective in their conduct of domestic and foreign policy than the men they replaced." Assess the validity of this statement for Franklin D. Roosevelt and Harry S. Truman, John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson. Presidents and their Successors The statement that "Vice Presidents who have succeeded to the presidency on the death of the President have been less effective in their conduct of domestic and foreign policy than the men they replaced" is not always true. Harry S. Truman became president upon the death of Franklin D. Roosevelt and Lyndon B. Johnson became president when John F. Kennedy was assassinated. Yet, while the statement proves to be true in the comparison of Roosevelt's and Truman's administrations, such is not the case with Kennedy and Johnson. Johnson was the more effective president in regard to domestic policies, but neither Kennedy nor Johnson was very effective when it came to foreign policy. President Franklin D. Roosevelt was successful as president from the very beginning. When he entered office during the Great Depression, he got to work immediately on achieving the three R's of recovery, relief, and reform. He showed that even though he did not have a detailed plan to help

How useful are sources A to C to explain why the United States became involved in the Vietnam war?

How useful are sources A to C to explain why the United States became involved in the Vietnam war? Source A: Source A is about US fear of communism. The nature of this source is a presidential speech to the US public. It is clear that source A is a primary source as it says on the bottom 'president Lyndon B Johnson speaking in April 1965.' That shows that the source is a primary one. There is a great possibility that the US presidential advisors produced this source to give president Lyndon B Johnson a speech to publish in front of the US public, one month after operation 'Rolling Thunder', which was a military operation, in which the US forces used massive fire power against North-Vietnamese forces. The aim and purpose of this source is to persuade the US public to back and understand the United States' violence in Vietnam, and to justify the president's actions in Vietnam to his nation. After the Second World War, France found it difficult to maintain control over indo-china. America supplied $1.2 billion of military aid to the French forces but in 1954, after a serious defeat in the battle of Dien Bien Phu, the French government decided to withdraw from Vietnam. At the Geneva conference, May 1954, it was agreed that elections would be held within two years and that in the meantime Vietnam would be divided into two halves with North Vietnam under the control of

The Vietnam conflict - "Our objective is to create conditions for a favorable settlement by demonstrating to the Viet Cong that the odds are against their winning."

"Our objective is to create conditions for a favorable settlement by demonstrating to the Viet Cong that the odds are against their winning." This quote, taken from a report by LBJ's top advisor, Robert McNamara, sums up the intentions of the executive branch during the debates over whether or not to escalate the Vietnam conflict. In 1965, President Lyndon Johnson was faced with the monumental decision of either pulling out of Vietnam, or escalating the conflict with air strikes against North Vietnam. From the various research I have conducted I will explore and try to understand why he made his decision. To do this I will present the background information of this conflict and the events leading up to his decision. The conflict in Vietnam began long before the first American advisors ever touched Vietnam soil. After the Japanese occupation that occurred during World War II ended, Vietnam was in a state of limbo. The rest of the world was quickly becoming aligned with one of the two super powers that were forming the Bi-polar system and Vietnam was not to be left out. After an attempted democratic government was ineffective, the French tried to regain control of their former colony and this resulted in the Indo-China war. Quoting from the Vietnamese declaration of Independence, which was written in 1945, some of the reasons for Vietnamese independence became

vietnam coursework

Aaron Locke Vietnam coursework How useful are sources A to C to explain why the United States involved in the war in Vietnam? I am going to consider sources A to C and find how useful they are to explain why the United States became involved in Vietnam. Source A is a speech given by the U.S President Johnson in April 1965 making the source a primary source. President Johnson was speaking a month after the start of operation rolling thunder, rolling thunder was an operation the Americans used at the start of the Vietnam War It had three main objectives which were to reduce the infiltration, boost South Vietnamese morale and to inform Hanoi of the ever increasing expense of a continued insurgence in the south. The plan was for operation rolling thunder to last eight weeks but it lasted for the next three years this operation caused major casualties it was mainly an air bombing campaign that started on the 24th of February 1965 and lasted until the end of October 1968. The purpose of the speech I think to try and get the American people on side and President Johnson was basically just trying to justify his reasons and actions to the American people about the war. One of the reasons why the Americans got involved in Vietnam is because they have a promise to keep that they would support any country threatened by communism this was called the Truman doctrine it was a

A man, Bob Johnson, leans on a cold, concrete pillar, silently waiting for the train to take him to work.

3's a Crowd, a Subways Hell. A man, Bob Johnson, leans on a cold, concrete pillar, silently waiting for the train to take him to work. He waits as he has waited for the past seven years of his monotonous, somewhat mechanical existence. He glances calmly at his wristwatch; thirty-seven minutes past eight o' clock in the morning. "Damn," he thinks to himself. "Oh well, they'll have to let me off," he mumbles to himself, "it's the first time I've been late in the seven years I've worked there." So, Bob slowly makes his way to the edge of the platform so as to get a good seat on the train. Around him, people mill around waiting for the same train Bob waits for. Directly behind him, a fat woman sits on a wooden bench holding her designer label bag in her lap, close to her chest. She is obviously very self-conscious and she glances around nervously. Nearby the fat lady, three African-American guys, aged around 20, dressed in ridiculously oversized clothing, listen to a rap music on a portable stereo. To his left, a businessman and his associate stand underneath a train schedule board discussing some important topic. Near him stands a group of Japanese tourists, looking at a half-folded map, trying to figure out the best route to arrive at their destination. Two of them are in a heated argument, speaking very quickly in Japanese. Bob then catches a glimpse of a crowd of school kids

B. F. Skinner - biography.

B. F. SKINNER 904 - 1990 Dr. C. George Boeree Biography Burrhus Frederic Skinner was born March 20, 1904, in the small Pennsylvania town of Susquehanna. His father was a lawyer, and his mother a strong and intelligent housewife. His upbringing was old-fashioned and hard-working. Burrhus was an active, out-going boy who loved the outdoors and building things, and actually enjoyed school. His life was not without its tragedies, however. In particular, his brother died at the age of 16 of a cerebral aneurysm. Burrhus received his BA in English from Hamilton College in upstate New York. He didn't fit in very well, not enjoying the fraternity parties or the football games. He wrote for school paper, including articles critical of the school, the faculty, and even Phi Beta Kappa! To top it off, he was an atheist -- in a school that required daily chapel attendance. He wanted to be a writer and did try, sending off poetry and short stories. When he graduated, he built a study in his parents' attic to concentrate, but it just wasn't working for him. Ultimately, he resigned himself to writing newspaper articles on labor problems, and lived for a while in Greenwich Village in New York City as a "bohemian." After some traveling, he decided to go back to school, this time at Harvard. He got his masters in psychology in 1930 and his doctorate in 1931, and stayed
