Who and what is most to blame for theTragedy of Romeo and Juliet?

Who and what is most to blame for the Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet? There are six factors which contributed in the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet- fate and fortune, the ongoing family feud between the Montagues and Capulets, their own weaknesses, Friar Lawrence, Nurse and Romeo's friend Mercutio. In this essay I intend to analyse each factor then conclude which is the most to blame for the tragedy. At the time of Romeo and Juliet people heavily believed their destiny lay in the stars, this can be illustrated by the quotation from the chorus where the characters are referred to as 'star- cross'd lovers', as if they were meant to meet and both take their lives as a result of their forbidden love. The characters too believe in fate, especially Romeo. At first he is wary of things which he feels will go wrong, like before the party but at the end of the story he is almost challenging fate, not caring what happens as long as he can be with Juliet. Before the party he says 'I fear too early, for my mind misgives, some consequence yet hanging in the stars...' which shows how he has a bad feeling about the night to follow. This turns out to be true as something does happen- he meets Juliet which though it is a good thing at first, leads to his death. At the wedding ceremony Romeo tempts fate which is a change in his character as now he doesn't care what lies ahead of him, all he

Romeo and Juliet Character anyalisis

Romeo and Juliet Character anyalisis Romeo: The son of Montague, Romeo is first introduced to us as a sad, melancholic, apathetic youth. His reason for sadness is universal; Rosaline his love will not return his affections. Not initially daring, it is his friends Mercutio and Benvolio who suggest he gatecrash or arrive uninvited at the Capulet party to see Rosaline. There he meets Juliet falling instantly in love. From this point on, Romeo no longer is melancholic, but dynamic and courageous, risking his life at the Capulet's house to be near Juliet and later breaking a banishment order which threatens death for him, to see his Juliet again. Well regarded even by Capulet, his enemy, Romeo is a thoughtful man, unwilling to provoke fighting unlike the hot-blooded, adversarial Tybalt, whom he kills. Romeo also kills Paris but in both encounters sought to avoid fighting, winning only to defend his life. At the end of the play, he commits suicide, rather than live without Juliet, the ultimate display of loyalty for his love Juliet since his life obviously no longer had meaning without her... Lady Capulet: Juliet's mother, we see her as a distant figure in Juliet's life; Juliet's nurse remembers more about Juliet's childhood than Lady Capulet, suggesting a distance between mother and daughter. Nonetheless she appears close to her daughter, assisting her husband to convince Juliet

The love story of Romeo and Juliet ends very tragically, the two star-crossed lovers die as their parents have given them advi

The love story of Romeo and Juliet ends very tragically, the two star-crossed lovers die as their parents have given them advise and saying they should never see each other. And I think that the person responsible for this is... The parents are most responsible for this incident, as they did not allow Romeo and Juliet be together which lead them to sneaking around and getting married without telling their family. I would also blame Juliet's nurse and friar Lawrence for helping them get married, meet up and get to see each other they should know best as they are older and know more about love. All they had to do was tell them that its not good to sneak around behind their parents back and told them that they should have explained how much in love they were with each other or even compromise with them. Thirdly I would like to place the blame on Romeo and Juliet as for they should have taken advice and thought it out properly and made sure that they had compromised with their family they. Tybalt is another person to blame as he put all the violence into this love story but if he stayed out of their business then they would've been alive still, same goes for him. Romeo and Juliet should've worked things out with their parents asked them if they wouldn't mind and try to compromise, but if their parents said no then they should listen to their parents. Juliet should marry the

Double Death Yesterday, in Verona, in the hot hours of the afternoon, a fight occurred ending in the murder of Mercutio by Tybalt and also the killing of Tybalt by Romeo.

VERONA TIMES Double Death Yesterday, in Verona, in the hot hours of the afternoon, a fight occurred ending in the murder of Mercutio by Tybalt and also the killing of Tybalt by Romeo. Two gangs - the Montagues and the Capulets - found themselves face to face with each other in the streets of Verona. The two families are well known because of their huge grudge against each other that has been going on for years. Why the fight broke out! The reason, supposedly, for the fight was that there was an annual masked ball of the Capulets and Romeo gatecrashed it. A member of Tybalt's family says they overheard a conversation where Tybalt said he 'swore revenge against Romeo'. Guilty party! Romeo, a Montague, Tybalt a Capulet mainly fought the fight, along with a friend of Romeo's - Mercutio. When asked who started the fight Benvolio answered, 'Tybalt, here slain, whom Romeo's hand did slay.' Mercutio was the first man to be killed in this tragedy that started as a hating between the families. He was killed when he stepped between Tybalt and Romeo whilst trying to stop the fight and got stabbed. At first he was joking about the intensity of the injury but it as found to be fatal. Romeo was furious with Tybalt for killing his friend and in revenge murdered Tybalt. When realising what he had done he fled from the street. Princes Punishment! The Prince is informed of

Romeo and julliet's love intro

How Shakespeare presents the love between Romeo and Julliet? Shakespeare starts the play with a prologue, this told the audience the outline of the story, and that this play would be a love tragedy. The idea of the prologue is to tell the audience some background information on the characters, basically setting the scene. Shakespeare presents the love between Romeo and Juliet as meant to be. 'A pair of star crossed lovers' This is Shakespeare saying that there love that they share is meant to be and is written into the stars. However in the prologue Shakespeare also says that there love that the share is doomed from the very beginning, and would always end sadly. 'There death marked love' This is strange because its like a big oxymoron he has used two complete opposites to describe one thing. The last point Shakespeare tells us about there love is that if they were to die it would bring peace. 'Death bury there parents strife' This is a positive coming from a negative which is a interesting way to show that the love that Romeo and Juliet share is very special. When Romeo is introduced to the play he is presented as a lost unsure teenager. He is feeling sad and is still unsure on what love is really all about. 'Love is a fume of sighs' This tells us that Romeo has some bad experiences of love before in his

Romeo's Character

Romeo's Character Romeo is introduced in Act 1 scene 1 of Romeo and Juliet as a withdrawn, quiet person. When Romeo's father and Benvolio make quite a big deal out of his change in "humour" show's that this behaviour is a radical change. Romeo is respected in Verona. Even lord Capulet who is head of the house that apposes the Montagues calls him "a virtuous and well governed youth". Obviously Romeo does not always ruled by these moods. This suggests that, before he became stuck on Rosaline, Romeo was a popular, lively member of the upper class of Verona. Romeo is very hot headed and he doesn't think things through before acting on them this is the main reason that this story ends in tragedy. When Tybalt kills his best friend he reacts almost immediately by duelling him, which results in his exile. Also in act 5 scene 1 when he decide he will go buy poison and kill himself in Juliet's tomb if there had been a little delay he would have known the truth about Juliet. On the other hand it is the same quality that lets him fall in love with Juliet so deeply and so

These lines begin the prologue of the ever so famous Romeo and Juliet

THe prolouge "Two households, both alike in dignity, In fair Verona, where we lay our scene, From ancient grudge break to new mutiny, Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean." These lines begin the prologue of the ever so famous Romeo and Juliet. The Capulets and the Montagues (two households both alike in dignity) have been fighting with each other for years (from ancient grudge). The play opens in Verona, Italy with a new riot between the families (new mutiny). It starts as an argument between servants of opposing households and grows to involve more people, including Tybalt (Capulet- Juliet's cousin) and Benvolio (Montague- Romeo's cousin). The two families throw insults at each other, including the famous "Do you bite your thumb at us, sir?" remark. Eventually, the Prince breaks up the fight, leaving both households with a warning: if another disturbance breaks out, the punishment will be

Discuss how Shakespeare uses dramatic techniques to build tension and create sympathy for Juliet in act 3 scene 5

Discuss how Shakespeare uses dramatic techniques to build tension and create sympathy for Juliet in act 3 scene 5 Set in Verona, Romeo and Juliet follows the tale of two lovers as they struggle to be together, keeping their love secret secret from their warring families. In Act 3 Scene 5, Romeo must lave Verona and Juliet after being banished. However, Juliet's family soon bring news of her arranged marriage with Paris. This triggers a heated argument that ends when Capulet threatens to disown Juliet. Angry and upset, Juliet decides to visit Friar Laurence, if he can't find a fix for her problem, she tells the audience that she will kill herself. During this pivotal scene, Shakespeare uses many dramatic techniques that create sympathy for Juliet and tension within the scene. When the scene begins, Romeo and Juliet have woken up together for what could be the final time. This creates a tense atmosphere between the two lovers where they are torn between Romeo being "gone and live or stay and die". In their passionate discussion they use the nightingale and the lark as representatives of light and dark. These images promote the contrasting sides of their relationship: their affectionate love hindered by their family's feud. Juliet's worries grow as the time of Romeos departure draws closer. She has an ominous insight into their future "now though art so low, as one dead in the
