English Coursework- Media Task-Write a detailed analysis of the Levi jeans commercials produced by Bartle, Bogle, and Hegarty in the 1980's. Focusing on the ways meaning is conveyed in order to influence the viewers opinion. First manufactured in San Francisco in the days of the gold rush, denim jeans have had a great impact on popular culture. One of the leading producers of Jeans were Levi Strauss & Co., founded in the city in the 1860's. The company started in 1853, when Levi Strauss left New York to establish a dry goods business with his brother-in-law in San Francisco. In the 1860's, though still primarily a seller of dry goods, he pioneered the use of a durable, brown, canvas-like material to make work trousers sold directly to miners. In the 1870's his company began to use metal rivets to strengthen the stress points of the garments, and demand increased. The company then expanded and early in the 20th century moved to 250 Valencia Street in the Mission District, where it remains today as a working clothes factory and as a museum. During the 1980's the sales of Levi jeans had slumped to an all time low. The core brand values of quality, durability, Americaness and honest denim were being dissipates by other companies. That claimed they had these qualities which Levi's possessed. Levi's had 'Sold Out'. The company had to start to appeal to the teenage -

Radio One

Memo To: Alfred Liggins, III From: Abenaa Ampratwum, Li-Ching Huang, Sultan CC: Maury Tamarkin Date: May 10, 2007 Re: Radio One, Inc. Radio One Incorporated began as one talk station in 1980, when it acquired WOL-AM. Radio One, Inc. was the first in the radio industry to primarily target African-American and urban listeners. Its strategy was to expand within existing markets and into new markets that had a significant African-American presence by acquiring and turning around under performing radio stations. The belief was that radio broadcasting primarily targeting African-Americans had significant growth potential and also that there was a competitive advantage in the African-American market and the radio industry in general, due to Radio One's primary focus on urban formats, skill in programming and marketing these formats, and turnaround expertise.. Radio One, Inc. is led by Chairperson and Founder, Catherine L. Hughes, and her son, Alfred C. Liggins, III, Chief Executive Officer and President, who together have over 45 years of operating experience in radio broadcasting. Radio One (NASDAQ: ROIA and RIOAK), had the opportunity to acquire 12 urban stations in the top 50 markets from Clear Channel Communications, Inc. the nation's largest radio station operator in the winter of 2000. The stations were being sold by Clear Channel Communications, Inc. to obtain Federal

Analysis of Coronation street Opening

Coronation Street or 'Corrie' is an award winning, prime time soap opera, set and produced in Manchester, created by Tony Warren. First broadcast in December of 1960, Corrie is now the longest running most watched soap opera of British television. The opening sequence for Corrie starts with a crane shot of a neighbour-hood, along with the title 'Coronation Street' in the bottom left hand corner of the shot. The music has an 'old-time' feel; this can suggest that this soap is intended for an older audience maybe 25+. The sequence continues with a cross-fade showing an alley that looks on to a street. These clips are all lacking the presence of any characters, which can lead us to assume that the company may not feel the need to introduce any characters as the audience should maybe already know the characters. As the clip continues to cross-fade we now see the back gardens of the neighbour-hood with a cat walking along the top of a wall, also introducing the writer 'Peter Whalley'. In this clip the presence of the cat can remind the audience of family life with a pet, or in some cases a cat would be in correlation with an older generation still, again leading us to assume this soap is intended for an older audience. The sequence ends with a final cross-fade to 'Rover's Return Inn' the local pub, with a train rolling past in the background. The use of this clip at the

The Internet is an excellent source of information for teachers and pupils."

I.T. Coursework By Joey 11C "The Internet is an excellent source of information for teachers and pupils." Many people believe that the above statement is true and is a vital role in their every day lives. There are many things that would prove that their Internet has changed our lives and I am going to discuss these with you. For those who do not have direct access to the Internet, it is very easy to do so. Almost all libraries have access to the World Wide Web as well as schools, friend's houses and Internet cafes. Many people use the Internet for research, homework/coursework, gaming, communicating with others and help at work etc. There are many of reasons why so many people use the Internet. When looking for information there are hundreds of search engines, the more recognisable being Google, Ask Geeves and Lycos. These search engines search the World Wide Web for any information relating to your topic in a matter of seconds. Where as if you where to go to the library and research from books this could take hours. I use search engines all the time to find help with coursework, projects and general browsing. These search engines use links for you to be able to view the website that the information, sometimes these websites are from the other side of the world and are available to you, personally I think that the internet is a excellent invention that has revolutionised

Media Homework Denotation: This advertisement features a simple image of a Corona Extra bottle. In the background there is an ocean setting. The sea seems to be calm and the sky seems to be blue. Also we can see a lime without its peel, in the neck of the bottle. To the right of the bottle we can see the skin that has been peeled off the lime. To the left of the neck of the bottle there is a quote saying "Skinny Dip". The bottle also seems to be standing on a wooden bench or patio which has been placed at the beach. The camera is on the same level as the bottle, which really doesn't have an effect on the advertisement. Connotation: As much as this may seem a simple photograph of the product the company is trying to sell, there are hidden secrets in the quote "skinny dip". At the first look the writing seems of no meaning, but after a few thorough investigations, you realise what it means. The quote is referring to the lime which is "skinny dipping" in the refreshment. This seems to give the advertisement more of a sexual twist, by making the drink sound exotic and daring. The background of the beach and the ocean help the sense of exoticness as beaches are usually associated with romance. The selling company is using the fact that people like to be exotic, by saying that their beverage is going to help them feel exotic. David

Media Studies Image Analysis Part 2 In our group we decided on doing a horror picture theme, aimed for the ages of 18 - 25. This because they are the age group that spends most money and time at the cinema. The picture will hopefully turn out as we like and will be: - A negative image, Set on the B block stairs giving a spiralling effect. The focus will obviously be on the confrontation and the two people will have similar poses, one FALLING, one FALLEN. This is our group image; I feel it has turned out well This is our final image, set as the poster advertising the movie The image has done what I aim to do, it has come as a complete revolution in the terms movie posters, negative colours and a title that stands out. The image seems maybe a little younger than our general audience but also seems a little "Fresh Prince Of Bel Air" for our aimed genre, maybe a little more comedy than a normal film movie. We had no technical problems creating this image. The only thing I would change is the space for the title on the wall, it seems a little boxed in. Our caption "A Tissue a tissue we all fall down" comes from the nursery rhyme Ring-a-Ring a Roses. We thought this would make it a play on words and different styles. Shaun

Personal safety when using chat rooms

Personal safety when using chat rooms You've probably heard of Internet chat rooms where people meet online to exchange messages on a certain topic. You may have even participated in a few chats yourself. Chat rooms, where chats are held, are virtual places on the Internet where people can type messages that will appear on other people's computers almost immediately. Chats are usually anonymous since the participants use nicknames to identify themselves. Some tips when going on chat rooms: * Never give out your personal information in a chat room. * Never agree to meet a stranger in person whom you met in a chat room. * When you're asked to enter or sign up for a chat nickname, choose a name that doesn't give away your personal information. For example, you might use Narak instead of Karan. * Be wary of other chatters who ask you to meet in private chat rooms. * Check the terms and conditions, code of conduct, and privacy statement at the chat site before you begin chatting. If anytime you think that you are in a very bad situation, then you must immediately tell your parents or get someone to help you. At anytime you must never feel under pressure. The safer you are the better it is. KARAN BARUA - 11 D

Action genre shared conventions with example

In the action genre, exciting sequence and special effects are more focused on as oppose to the character development or story-telling. The genre relies on the individual efforts of the hero. Although mainly aimed at a male audience, the action genre began to branch out in 1990's adding a female heroine, expanding its viewing audience to almost everyone. Expected conventions of this genre would be elaborate fighting scenes, explosions, plenty of gunfire and danger. Many of the first action movies were inspired by the highly successful Hong Kong action cinema, both in Asia and in the West. Now martial arts and other Asian fighting techniques are common among non- Asian action films When you watch action films you expect a lot of sounds that are non-diegetic (in the background but not visible), for example in the movie "Iron Man" when Tony Stark is in the Jeep and suddenly an explosion sound and gunfire is heard but you cant see the men with guns. Many action movies have a highly exaggerated storyline, Tony Stark creates weapons of mass destruction, this is almost believable, and then he makes a battle-suit? Very unrealistic but still holds our attention because it is exciting and sticks to the stylistic conventions of an action genre. Cathleen Guiney

Mandy

Mike Bassett: England Manager is the choice of film for my project

Mike Bassett: England Manager, Task 1,2 Mike Bassett: England Manager is the choice of film for my project. Ricky Tomlinson swaps Jim Royle's armchair for the Wembley dugout as the first gaffer from the lower divisions to become England manager. Needless to say, the appointment is a disaster. Antiquated tactics, inebriated players, and a venomous press core all threaten to send the squad crashing out of the World Cup qualifiers. Can Mike get his act together in time to save the day - and his job? Shot in the familiar faux-documentary style of "People Like Us" and "This is Spinal Tap", The film is currently in the top 150 films ever made. Films which fall into this genre include, Mean Machine, The Football Factory and Hooligans. I have researched styles, fonts images, moods and colours to relate to my own poster work. Here is an official poster for the film, along with
