Jones-Blair Company Case Report Problem Statement Jones-Blair Company is a privately held corporation that produces and markets paint and paint sundries under the Jones-Blair brand name. Their current issue at hand is to decide on where and how to deploy corporate marketing efforts among the different architectural paint coatings markets in southwestern United States. Continuing disagreements between proposals made by the VPs of different Jones-Blair divisions are delaying a course of action. One unmet company objective is the application of their efforts towards the correct market segment in geographic terms between the eleven-county DFW areas and the non-DFW areas. Another unfulfilled target is the positioning of the Jones-Blair brand name in terms of price and awareness for the consumers. There is also an expressed discrepancy between the service quality and commission granted towards Jones-Blair sales representatives. Competition has increased with regards to other major producers (accounting for up to 60% of sales) and private store brands of paint (in which 50% of architectural coatings are sold under these store brands). Puede resultar un poco tedioso saber cuándo se originó exactamente el arte dentario en nuestro país debido a la falta de pruebas y referencias, gracias a que los españoles se encargaron de recoger la herencia del imperio incaico. Sin embargo, se puede suponer, por la cerámicas encontradas en las tumbas del gran imperio, que los incas contaban con una buena salud y ésta también se veía reflejada en su salud bucal. Se han hallado cráneos con trabajos odontológicos finísimos, realizados con oro y piedras preciosas. Ya para la primera etapa de la conquista, la situación era muy distinta, debido a que los españoles no habían venido preparados para afrontar las enfermedades con las que tenían que lidiar. Poetic Parallelism between John Donne and Lope de Vega The identification and comparison between English metaphysical poetry and Spanish poesía conceptista was suggested for the first time by James Smith, and then studied by Frank J. Warnke and Lowry Nelson. Later bibliography has focused almost exclusively on the analysis of Francisco de Quevedo's affinity with metaphysical poetry, and John Donne in particular. Critics and scholars have studied Quevedo's use of the conceit, and the metaphysical themes of some of his poems, and quite recently, the comparative study of Quevedo's and Donne's poems has been undertaken. As a contrast, only a few authors have dealt with John Donne in relationship with Lope de Vega, or viceversa, even though some of Lope de Vega's poems also belong to the conceptista vein. Frank Warnke included two sonnets by Lope de Vega in his collection of European metaphysical poems, and he pointed to the stylistic similarities between the devotional poems of Quevedo and Lope and those of Donne's (52, 59-60). Octavio Paz mentioned the existence of similarities between the passion, both amorous and religious, of Lope de Vega and Donne. Daniel L. Dara Brown Spanish Dr. Mondada April 30, 2004 Afro-Carribean Spanish I chose to study the phonological, syntax, and lexical charachtaristics of Afro-Caribbean Spanish. As a result of European colonization and slave trade between the late 15th and early 18th century Spanish and West African languages were combined to create Caribbean Spanish pidgin or Creole. Spain acquired the majority of its slaves from Portuguese traders and since Africans came from different places and spoke different languages they could not communicate. As a result the Spanish pidgin language was created. "Pidgin refers to a contact language used by two groups, one being socially dominant but neither speaking it as a first language.1 Pidgin is a simplified form of a language used as a rudimentary means of communication among speakers with different languages. "Pidginization is the process through which native speakers of two separate languages develop a contact language so they may function in the same society".2 A pidgin language may stabilize when it obtains grammatical and lexical properties and becomes used as a secondary form of language called Creole. "Creolization is the process through which a person exposed to a pidgin acquire a creole as their first language; creoles may be spoken by children as a native language, but not by their parents, so that a new language is created within a
The Symbolism in the Punishment of Sin in Dante's Inferno
The Symbolism in the Punishment of Sin in Dante's Inferno Inferno, the first part of Divina Commedia, or the Divine Comedy, by Dante Alighieri, is the story of a man's journey through Hell and his observance of the punishments incurred as a result of committing sin. In all cases the severity of the punishment and the punishment itself, has a direct correlation to the sin committed. The punishments are fitting in that they are symbolic of the actual sin; in other words, "They got what they wanted." (Literature of the Western World, p.1409) According to Dante, Hell has two divisions: Upper Hell, devoted to those who perpetrated sins of incontinence, and Lower Hell, devoted to those who perpetrated sins of malice. The divisions of Hell are also split into levels corresponding to the sins committed. Each of the levels and the divisions within levels 7,8, and 9 have an analogous historical or mythological figure used to illustrate and exemplify the sin. The first of the two divisions of Hell is Upper Hell. Upper Hell is the area inhabited by those who committed sins of incontinence or lack of self-restraint. This lack of self-restraint comes in the form of many sins ranging from sex to mood. Before delving into the sins of incontinence, one must first look into the first inconsistency of the Inferno. First Love' and 'How Do I Love Thee?' are both very personal experiences as they are written in the first person narrative. I believe that the two poets
"Love Is An Abstract Emotion And Can Produce Conflicting Feelings." Love is an abstract emotion, untouchable even though it dwells in our hearts. It can have many faces creating conflicting feelings; yet each time it is immeasurable and its reach limitless. Love can be radiant and a source of joy and happiness for the possessor, altering ones life to such an extent that it can never be the same again. However, love's path is not always smooth for it can produce as much pain and sorrows as it does happiness. Even though it may create mixed feelings, love itself is not always the same. It can vary from person to person and the emotions that it creates within people also differ. We can acknowledge this through the first two poems which I have studied. Although they both convey feelings of intense love, John Clare in 'First Love' attempts to show the doubtful stages of love at first sight, whereas Elizabeth Barrett Browning's sonnet in 'How Do I Love Thee?' portrays the intensity of her long-term love in a very celebratory manner. 'First Love' and 'How Do I Love Thee?' are both very personal experiences as they are written in the first person narrative. I believe that the two poets, Clare and Browning, use this tense to create a greater impact on the reader.
