Effective communications P3

National Diploma Health and Social Care in Health Studies Unit 1 Developing effective communication P3 Describe a range of factors that influence communication and interpersonal interaction. Include both positive and negative factors. The nature of communication: This could be one of the main factors which influences the way we communicate with someone. If someone is deaf, verbally speaking to them is not always going to be understood unless they can lip- read so therefore this influences how you would communicate with this person. Other methods have to be considered for instance British Sign Language or written communication. The same can be said if someone is blind, we can verbally speak to , but if they had to read information then simple written communication is not appropriate for them and brille would have to be used. Cultural differences and preferred spoken languages: If someone is from a different ethnic background to yourself they could possible prefer to speak in a different language than English or possibly are unable to speak or understand English. This can then make it difficult to communicate with someone unless an interpreter is available. Then other forms of communication have to be used such as pictures or objects. Verbal and non-verbal communication can be interpreted different between cultures, age and occupation. Words can be interpreted differently

CACHE 3 Childcare learning and development unit1

E1 The rights and welfare of a child are central to any practice, and it is necessary to realise that every child is an individual with needs and rights which need to be taken in to consideration when providing care for them. The Children?s Act 1989 states "the child?s welfare is paramount" This means that the setting must focus on the childs rights and the physical and emotional health of the child. They must observe and listen to the child and response to their needs and requests. The childs basic needs to food, warmth and play must be met. The United Nations Convention on Rights of the Child Sets out the childs rights to ,provision eg food and water, participation- to be heard, and protection from abuse. On a practical level in setting meeting these should be by ensuring that the child is in a safe and healthy environment with enough to eat and drink. The child should have the chance to play learn, and is helped to form caring and supportive relationships with the other children and the practitioners. The main aims of a setting in meeting these needs should be set out in a procedure and should be know by all staff, it may be similar to the following............. To meet all children's needs by providing high quality childcare within a warm, friendly, secure and stimulating atmosphere. All children and families will be treated equally regardless of race, gender,

Explain six potential hazards that could be found in a health and social care setting

P1 - Explain six potential hazards that could be found in a health and social care setting. . Kitchen Cutlery (safety) : Any sharp cutlery (knives, folks e.t.c) that is given out to the service users should always be returned to the careers as soon as the service user has finished using the cutlery because if they're are left with the cutlery, this can come as a huge hazard to the service user if they keep the cutlery. It can be a hazard to some of the service users who are suicidal as they will use this cutlery to harm themselves. 2. Access to Medication (health) : If any medication is left outside the medication room/locker, this can be a hazard to any of the service users because they will be able to get unauthorized access to the medication and they will abuse the medication which may result in the service user harming themselves. To avoid this hazard, the any medication should always be locked up to reduce any risk of the service users harming themselves. 3. Wet Floors (Safety) : If the cleaners clean the floor with any liquids and the floor is left still wet, this will be an obvious hazard to the service users and other workers because if a service user slips over the wet surface they will hurt themselves. To reduce the risk, the cleaners should always put up "wet floor" hazard signs so that the service users and other workers are more aware and careful while

Explain the probable homeostatic responses to changes in the internal environment following the consumption of a healthy meal

M2 Explain the probable homeostatic responses to changes in the internal environment following the consumption of a healthy meal. Homeostasis: Homeostasis is the maintenance of a constant internal environment . The maintenance of homeostasis can occur through the nervous system or through chemical stimulation and changes are achieved and controlled by the homeostasis regulation mechanisms which include sensors, signal transmissions, control centres and also effectors. The above allow the body to adapt to its own environment and therefore allows it to function normally. The reason that we need the internal environment within the body to stay constant is because the enzymes within our body can only work effectively within a certain ph and temperature, if these conditions are not maintained the enzymes will not be able to work and therefore the chemical proteins within the enzymes will not be able to speed up reactions within the body and the enzymes will become denatured, if this occurs this occurs the consequences could be fatal for the individual. Homeostatic mechanisms work by negative feedback as they detect any changes in the boys internal environment and bring about an effect that will reverse the change. Although after eating a meal certain changes occur within the body they are: After eating a healthy balanced meal the glucose levels within the blood will

Unit 2: communication and values

Unit 2: Communications and values Contents: Introduction Methods Communication comparison Transmission of communication Introduction: For this piece of coursework I had to do two interactions; one with a group of people and the second on a one on one basis. I did my two interactions at Socatots 'The soccer-specific physical play concept for pre-school children'. At Socatots they encourage children to learn and develop their fine and gross motor skills by partaking in football related games and learning. The first interaction I did was a group activity where everyone involved had to move the ball around cones which were laid out on the floor. At each side there was tape markings which the football was not allowed to pass over. The winner received a sticker on their progress chart. My second interaction was a one on one activity with *Stuart. We passed a football between each other and count how many times we managed to do this. In the first interaction I had to make sure that everyone could hear and understand me. I had to be certain that I used terms that 3 - 5 year olds could understand. I also had to demonstrate what I wanted them to do and use a lot of non-verbal communication. In the second activity I had to again use terms and words that a 4 year old can understand. I also tried to use open and warming body language to make *Stuart feel more comfortable. The

Physiological Disorders -strokes and diabetes

Maria Dadra Unit 14- Physiological Disorders Title: Nature and diagnosis of two physical disorders. In this assignment I will be looking at the nature of two named physiological. I will explain its signs and symptoms and asses possible difficulties involved in the diagnosis of the disorders from their signs and symptoms. Stroke The first physiological disorder which I will be looking at is stroke. Stroke is more like a 'brain attack' which happens when the blood supply to part of the brain is cut off. There are two types of strokes which is Ischaemic stroke and haemorrhagic stroke. Ischaemic is when the blood supply to part of the brain is blocked by a blood clot or a fatty material. Haemorrhagic stroke is caused by bleeding inside the brain when a blood vessel bursts and bleeds into the brain. For the Brain to function it needs a constant blood supply which provides nutrients and oxygen to the brain cells. Many Parts of the brain has a particular function or ability to do something. It is divided into two sides, the left hemisphere which controls what you think and language, it tells you what the body parts do for e.g. movement. If this is damaged the patient may have problems in speech and language, she may need a lot of help in doing this e.g. participating in an activity, and they also start to forget things. The right hemisphere deals more with visual imagery,

Understand why effective communication is important in the work setting. Identify the different reasons people communicate

SHC 31 . Understand why effective communication is important in the work setting .1 Identify the different reasons people communicate Before examining the different reasons people communicate, we must start by determining a view to what communication is. Communication can be defined as information transfer. This can be the exchange of thoughts, messages, feelings or the like. The way we transfer information is by speech, signals or writing, to express oneself in such a way that one is readily and clearly understood. 'We all use a variety of communication techniques to both understand and be understood.' Methods of Communication (body language, speaking, writing or visual aids): One Way - ? Memo, fax, e-mail, voice mail, letter. Two Way * Phone call, in-person. Collaborative ? Team meetings, consulting, consensus, decision making, group problem solving. Sharing ideas through communication has meant that each generation of humans has been able to refine and improve the previous generations work. Communication plays a vital part in our survival, for example a baby screams (which is a form of communication) when it is hungry. Our survival and success as humans has been dependant on our ability to communicate. People communicate for different reasons, which are as follows: * To teach: We communicate is to impart knowledge and to teach. This way of communication

In this essay I will be both describing and evaluating the different methods used to promote and protect public health in the U.K.

P5- describe methods of promoting and protecting public health. M2- explain methods of promoting and protecting public health. In this essay I will be both describing and evaluating the different methods used to promote and protect public health in the U.K. The main aims of promoting and protecting public health are to improve the general health of the population and to reduce health inequalities within the U.K. The government is a key part of all of this as they have produced many official documents, papers, reports and legislations in order to enhance overall public health. One of these documents is the White Paper which focuses on making choices in terms of health easier; this can be read in my appendix 1. In order to reduce health inequalities the government brought out an action programme and set targets and goals that they wanted to be reached by 2010. Some of the targets for this plan include aspects like, reducing smoking in manual social groups, preventing teenage pregnancy and supporting teenage pregnancy, improving housing conditions for children in disadvantaged areas and many more. I will now place the main methods of promoting and protecting public health into three categories; health promoting activities/health education, specific protection and environmental. Health promoting activities/health education: Healthy eating campaigns- This campaign was set

Communication in care settings This piece of work is about two main theories and they are Tuckmans theory and Egans theory (SOLER). Also the effects of communication on care workers and service users.

A03- Communication in care settings This piece of work is about two main theories and they are Tuckman's theory and Egan's theory (SOLER). Also the effects of communication on care workers and service users. This will be explained in more detail. Communication cycle- is very important in our lives, there are lots of ways to communicate nowadays and the list becomes bigger each day. There are lots of ways to communicate but the main structure of the cycle is still the same as it was. First it's you express yourself then you listen and hear, then they express ones feelings then they listen and hear. And then it goes round like a cycle. http://www.surrey.ac.uk/Skills/pack/enc.html Tuckman's theory- This stage was developed in 1965's and the last stage was added in the 1970's. There are 5 stages and they are forming, storming, norming, and performing. Forming is when the individual themselves is very nervous, scared to show their real feelings so they may just agree with someone to kind of 'make them happy'. In this stage the individual doesn't show their personality as they may not feel comfortable round others in their group. http://www.businessballs.com/tuckmanformingstormingnormingperforming.htm The second stage is storming at this stage the individual start to show their real feelings and their personality starts to show. This is because they start to relax and be
