Room 101

Room 101 "You'll be staying in room 101," called out the receptionist. Her booming voice echoed off the walls. Room 101. I had an uneasy feeling about this room, like I had heard of it before, yet, nothing came to mind. I had taken one step when I heard a clicking sound. Two big, strange men grabbed me, hauled me up four flights of stairs, at which point something sharp was injected into my neck, causing me to pass out on the cold, wooden floor. I opened my eyes to find myself in a room as dark as the midnight sky. I tried to move my head to look around, but it was strapped tightly into place on a headboard. My hands and feet were tied firmly to the chair I was placed on by some sort of rope, which I couldn't see due to the intense darkness which filled the room. The room was as cold as snowflakes on a winter's day. Where was I? Somewhere I hoped I would never visit again. The room where everybody's deepest, darkest, untold fears came true; Room 101 and unfortunately for me, my fear was nasty, disgusting flies. Ever since I was young I had always had a fear of flies. I'm not sure why; it's just always been that way. Whenever they are around they would give me this feeling I just couldn't ignore, like somebody had thrown itching powder all over my skin. I had to run like I was running for my life, and itching at the same time. It's terrifying, but I have no idea why. I know

Romeo And Juliet Essay

Analysis Essay; Romeo and Juliet This film is about a pair of lovers called Romeo and Juliet; they are destined for each other but their rival families stand in their way. The director, Lurhmann, has created a modernised film version of the play; this essay will analyse the opening of the film. Firstly, in the opening very spiritual and dramatic music in the opening immediately engages the audience, making them want to no more and watch on. This music could also imply that the families are both very religious. However the more modern, fast paced, hip-hop music that is played during the introduction of the Montague boys reflects them very well as it shows that they are much more like modern young men. Also this could tell us that they are the less serious of the families and they will be the more comical of the families. On the other hand, when the Capulet boys are introduced the music is a western style; this shows us that they are much more serious than the Montague's. Also we can deduce that they take religion and their Italian culture a lot more seriously due to the seriousness of the music. During the gun fight, Lurhmann uses a very westernised music; this could be to symbolise the fight as those of the western times. Also this music could be played as it shows that the Capulet's are dominating the gun fight. Lurhamann uses a slow zoom into the news reader on

Romeo and Juliet essay

Romeo and Juliet essay How do the emotions of Juliet and the audience change throughout Act 3 Scene 5? Romeo and Juliet was written in 1595 by William Shakespeare. The play was set around 100 years before it was written. It was based on a story, which Shakespeare has read which was called 'The Tragically History of Romeo and Juliet', by Arthur Brooke, which was published in 1562. The play was set in Verona, a city in Italy and the story had such an effect on Shakespeare that he adapted it to suit his own ideas and turned it into a play. It could be seen that he had written the play to underline the status of fathers and daughters at that time since at the same sort of time, he wrote 'A Midsummer's Night Dream' which also involves a daughter wanting to marry someone against her father's will. This play, unlike Romeo and Juliet, is a comedy production. The audience are already prepared to feel sympathy for Juliet because the long chain of events started as soon as she said her first line in Act 1 Scene 3. When lady Capulet asked Juliet "How stands your disposition to be married?" she asks Juliet whether she wants to get married to Paris. From Juliet's answer we see that she was a very young, protected from life and innocent girl- "It is an honour that I dream not of". We also see in that scene that Juliet doesn't have a good relationship with her mother-Lady Capulet which

Saving Private Ryan

"SAVING PRIVATE RYAN" REVIEW What impression does Spielberg give of war in the opening 20 minutes of the film? Powerful, shocking and unforgettable! "Saving Private Ryan" is a war film like no other. It shows the true emotions that go through the minds of the soldiers while they are at war. Directed by Steven Spielberg; starring Tom Hanks and Matt Damon, the film breaks with traditional conventions of the war film genre in the way that it begins with the American flag waving in the wind. It then goes of into the images of an old man going into a cemetery and it is showing the pain and grief caused by the war and how deeply upsetting it is for an individual to remember the historical event. "Saving Private Ryan" is a war film about the war between the Germans and the allies. It is about the tragedy a family faces when the mother of 4 boys finds out that she had lost three of her four boys. The main question that this film generates is that is it aright to risk the lives of several soldiers for just one man which could already be dead? Tom Hanks plays Captain Miller who starts off leading a group of soldiers to land on Omaha beach. Later on in the film His mission is changed to a rescue mission to bring Private James Francis Ryan (Matt Damon) back to his mother. "Saving Private Ryan" isn't like the traditional war films. It shows that war isn't all about victory. It shows

Another wave of sea spray hit his shivering face like bullets pounding into the practise board he used this morning as the boat smashed into a colossal wave. They neared the beach. No longer was it the picturesque setting of crystal waters and soft, light grains of sand that puts smiles on children’s faces. Now it was a scene straight out of hell with fire and explosions of destruction, a place where the cries of agonized men would be forever etched into the ancient cliffs. The waves crashed against the shore furiously, washing up the tin prison cells that would bring thousands of young, tough, often inexperienced men to their deaths. BOOM! A shell landed on one of the boats, a direct hit; huge explosions of fuel, metal and torn limbs washed over into the sea. Flaming oil burned on the water as cannon fire hit the front of the ship. One man dressed in the dark green uniform and black boots, filth covered every visible inch of his skin. Unsteadily, he took a drink from his canteen and silently prayed as he kissed the cross attached to his necklace. The man next to him wretched violently as his stomach emptied itself of all content. At the back of the boat the driver looked fierce in his khaki jacket and helmet, the gun on his back locked and loaded ready to kill. He looked upon the men that sat in their seats and noticed the way their hands shook uncontrollably as they

Personal Writing Fiction That blasted husband of mine why didn't he just fall? Why couldn't his bony white fingers fail him just this once, cease their scrabbling on that cold fresh grass , plummet to his death rocks like demons teeth, battered by the waves a ghostly grey in the gloom of the early morning. Why couldn't he of left me, stopped his endless torment on me, his cold heart growing rich on my hatred, and fear. He drags me to those places often. Cliffs high as the sky clouds catching on their jagged points. It's like he feasts on my fear some sick twisted fantasy, watching my eyes narrow in worry his eyes bright with delight and manic excitement. It was the third time I had tried to kill him, I would pay dearly for my moment of justice, there was a cold sense of satisfaction in the screams that shrieked from his crooked mouth plagued with wrinkles. It made my heard swell with pleasure. His high pitched dampened and consumed by the soft chalk rocks. Unfortunately he had a selfish way of surviving without so much as a scratch on his bony little head. I remember when it all started when I was twenty three a young slender shape a sleek golden hair my life looked promising fresh from university I had ambitions and zest for life. My ambitions were ruined when my parents met Lacey's family, over a while they became friends; a marriage was set up by Lacey's parents and

Khuram Akram 0T Personal Writing Autobiography I woke up earlier than usual for my first day at the Royal Grammar School, at six o'clock to be precise. I was feeling weary and fatigued but then I realised what day it was and my eyes just flew open as if I had seen something very shocking. I jumped out of bed and sprinted to and fro in excitement, and gradually after my excitement settled slightly I went downstairs for a spot of breakfast, but I then became conscious of the fact that I wasn't hungry. I then scuttled upstairs and ran straight towards my wardrobe where my new school uniform awaited me. After I looked at myself in the wardrobe the smile on my face rapidly evolved into a frown, my new royal blue blazer came down to my knees and my grey jumper seemed to be like a present my grandma had knitted for me. Grudgingly, I went downstairs again to seek my mother and show her how the uniform seemed to be extra large on me. However, she ignored my judgment, as she was more concerned by trying to get the digital camera to work in order to take some photos of me. With my confidence slightly affected I decided to set off to the bus stop, and I departed the house leaving my very energetic mother behind. It was a very cold autumn day, the cold breeze was slapping my face and I was feeling extremely cold, but at least I had my extra large blazer to keep me warm. After a

Personal Writing My Friends and I were having our science mock GCSE exam one Thursday afternoon. We had free time in the morning which was meant to be for revision purposes. However, on that particular Thursday, I and my friends; Anand, Eren and Kai would not be doing revision. It was Anands idea. He simply came out with it one day. We all said "Yeah Cool". At the time I was quite naïve and did not how stupid running through a train tunnel "Just for the fun of it" actually was. So when the day came I woke up at 9:00 and met everyone at school. I Anand, Eren and Kai then all set off for the Whetstone tunnel. The journey took about 20 minutes. We arrived at the train tracks and look deep into the tunnel that we would run through. There were two tracks and tracks and two tunnels, with one track running through each. We decided to run through the tunnel on the right. The tunnel was about the size of house and a good 400 metres in length with a dot of light at the end. That was our target. I looked at Kai who was starring into the tunnel with an agitated look on his face. "Guys I'm goin back to school" he said". "Aw pussy boy" said Anand as Kai turned his back and walked away. It was just the three of us now. We stepped up to the tunnel entrance daringly and starred into it. "Come on lets get it over with" I said as I moved into it. We all started walking with haste down the

Porphyria's Lover Essay

How is the pain and suffering of love presented in Porphyria's Lover and La Belle Dame Sans Merci? La Belle Dame Sans Merci The poem describes the encounter between an unnamed knight and a mysterious fairy. It opens with a description of the knight in a barren landscape, "haggard" and "woe-begone". He tells the reader how he met a beautiful lady whose "eyes were wild"; he set her on his horse and she took him to her "elfin grot", where she "wept, and sigh'd full sore". Falling asleep, the knight had a vision of "pale kings and princes", who cried, "La Belle Dame sans Merci hath thee in thrall!" He awoke to find himself on the same "cold hill's side" after which he continues to wait, "palely loitering". The pain and suffering in 'Porphyria's lover' and 'La Belle Dame Sans Merci' is presented through the situations in the poems, the languages and structures in the poems and similar situations of the way they are both written. The two narrators have very similar views within the poems as they tell the story of men who have fallen prey to love and have been left trapped in deranged thoughts and acts because they cannot be with the women they love. 'La Belle Dame sans Merci' tells the tale of a knight who had fallen in love with a woman full of beauty who was a faery's child putting a spell upon him through love. Fairy's targeted high powered men and indulged them until they
