Creative writing It's the morning of my birthday, I know what you are thinking-it's a happy day, but it's not when you don't have any friends. Your probably wondering why I have no friends, well I'm not very popular at my school. You see at school I work for teachers to help get the other students in trouble. Like the other day when a couple of hooligans decided that it would be funny to throw Mrs. Fonster's slippers on the roof. Then all I did was tell her who did it, it wasn't me who gave them the distension and yet they dislike me. Anyway that's why I don't have any friends, but this is the story about when that all changed. It was Friday the 13th of June- unlucky for most but for me this was the best day of my life. It all started with breakfast. As soon as I could smell pancakes while I was walking down the stairs- you see, pancakes were my favourite but I hardly ever got them as my mum was a health fanatic and didn't think that having pancakes for breakfast was very good for you. That's when I knew something good was going to happen. When I got to the dining table the scent of the pancakes was overwhelming. They were already served out on a plate, there was a pile of them stacked one on top of the other. I sat down then my mum said "me and your dad are going away for a couple days on one of your dads company trips. So your going to be here on your own for those

Creative writing!! "Beep...Beep...Beep..." I woke up with a jump as my alarm clock was sounding off like a fog horn! I unraveled the covers off me and rubbed my sleepy eyes open to my messy comfortable room. Each morning when I wake up I turn on the radio and open the curtains to wake me up listening to the latest news and hits while the early sun shines into my room brightening the whole room up. Today was different though, when I open my curtains there was no sun or anything in fact. It was completely white! First I thought I was to tired and needed more sleep, but when I looked closer and rubbed my eyes more I soon realized it had been snowing all night while continuing to dump more snow down. You could see the old church with all the grave stones full of white stuff while it continues to batter the old building. In front of the church there is my local bus that I catch to go to school I get every morning. There were no foot prints or tire tracks so the bus has not down its first trip at 6 am for the city workers. I was utterly delighted; we haven't had a day off school in years. Excited I was, I ran to my sisters room blaring out the words over and over again "LOOK OUT SIDE..... LOOK OUT SIDE!" She thought something must have been wrong like a fire or a huge car crash or something. "What, What" she declared. "Snow!! Snow!! Just look out side". I rambled on. She looked

~*~Chewing Gum~*~ If only someone could come and relieve my pain. If somehow I could just wish upon a star and make all the memories go away. But my mind just keeps on going back and I can't help but think about that guy that messed me up. I can't help but remember that sad day in December. That day he took something from me and I can never be the same again. I regret being out that night I was young and stupid. I got hurt but didn't learn. I still make the same mistakes. Going out late and messing around with the wrong people. I lived life for the moment; still do now I'm just a bit more sensible about how I live it. To live in the world today and make a living is hard. You have to have the GCSE's. I failed in school because of a mixture of things, mixing in with the wrong people, drinking, smoking, and family stuff. I don't really no how it started but I think I just turned a certain age and thought I could go into the world and be a grown up. Even though I wasn't. I started sneaking out of the window because I was scared of what my parents would say if they found out that I went out at night. It was fun I would go out with my friends, drink a bit then get home at about 3 in the morning, sneak back in and wake up the next day after lunch. My parents started to realise that something was wrong. They were keeping a close eye on me. But that didn't stop me from going out. It

Dead Poets Society

Dead Poets Society: study notes (Diary entry) Today was a long and stressful day on the set of the making of the film Dead Poets Society. The director would not rest until the scenes being shot were perfect in the director's eyes. He described these scenes as "instrumental" in emphasizing the themes of tradition and conformity in contrast with the opposing themes of self expression and free thinking. The director chose to include several shots of birds taking flight in formation Prior to the commence of the academic year. The visuals of the birds flying in perfect formation is a metaphor for how the school operates. The Camera cuts from the shots of the birds to the students filing down the stairs towards their first classes in single file. This deliberate comparison of the fight of the birds to the students is to alert the audience to the student's conformity to the schools traditional values. The shot of the birds is shot in the morning where the light is continually getting brighter. This is perhaps a symbol of hope and change in the traditional values of the school. In the background we can see red autumn leaves which are a symbol of blood and death. This contrast of hope with the morning light and the red of the autumn leaves is a representation of the opposing themes encountered. The Scene of the student's first classes is very important to establishing the contrast

Tom Hanks plays Carl Hanratty, the agent hot on Frank's tail who eventually catches him. His primary crime was cheque forgery, becoming so skilful that the FBI eventually turned to him for help. From the title, 'Catch me if you can' it is immediately suggested that it is about someone pursuing someone, this is very effective technique used as it gives an outline of the plot already in just a few words. Well here's a summary of the plot. It starts of with a gifted forger attempts to stay one step ahead of the law in this comedy-drama from Steven Spielberg. How does Peter Medak gain the viewers sympathy for Derek Bentley in the film, 'Let Him Have it'?

How does Peter Medak gain the viewers sympathy for Derek Bentley in the film, 'Let Him Have it'? The film 'Let Him Have It', tells the real-life story of Derek Bentley. Derek is a nineteen year old epileptic who is caught breaking into a shed in his early youth. He is sent to approved school but is released early due to his epilepsy and his low IQ. It is later on discovered that Derek has the mental age of eleven, this plays a great part in the injustice later on. After his release he ends up being involved with a local youth, Christopher Craig, an American style gangster with a dangerous hobby. Derek follows Chris around, undertaking any activity which he does. One of these includes a midnight robbery of a warehouse. This, however, turns drastically wrong when Chris ends up shooting two officers, fatally wounding one whilst injuring another. Both boys are found guilty of murder and Chris is imprisoned, leaving Derek to face the death penalty. Despite obvious bias and protests, the sentence is carried out. The story is so controversial for many reasons. One was being Derek's mental age of eleven. Any eleven-year-old would not be allowed in court, let alone face the death penalty. There was also strong bias on behalf of the judge involved, pressuring the jury into their verdict. It was also an unfair charge as Derek did not actually commit the murder. In this essay, I will

Frankenstein Essay

"Look at the significance of chapter five to the novel as a whole. Focus on the relevance and effect of writer's use of language to describe setting, character and what it shows about social and historical influences." This essay will probe into techniques which Mary Shelley (1797-1851) has incorporated in her novel Frankenstein, especially in Chapter 5, to achieve different atmospheres and to provide a clear sense of character which can help the reader to shape their personal thoughts of what is happening by ambiguous use of language. Frankenstein, also known as 'The Modern Prometheus', was written during the early 18th century (1816-1817), when Shelley was at the young age of 18. Mary Shelley was nurtured in a political-free thinking; radical family and her mother was a feminist. She died 10 days after giving birth to her. Shelley's own daughter also died within two weeks of her birth. Her half-sister, Fanny, died committing suicide. She was surrounded by death; this biographical information insights readers as to where Shelley's eccentric original ideas and fascinations of creating life, which condemned societal thoughts and morality at that period, had arisen from. Frankenstein is written in two contrasting genres; Gothic and Romance. Shelley fuses these two genres together in Frankenstein to create a dramatic effect which will linger, indulging bittersweet emotion

Discussing Jaws

Jaws Jaws is a 1975 thriller film directed by Steven Spielsperg. The film is based on a novel wrote by Peter Benchley called "stillness in the water". The film itself is based on a giant Great White Shark browsing and attacking innocent people on Amity island on the week of fourth of July, this certain week is when a vast amount of tourists from all over America gather to celebrate when America went independent from the British Empire. The filming effects of this film is really effective because it helps tension build up in the audience by using different camera angles, when the shark is going to attack its victim it uses "point of view" angles (P.O.V), the certain angle builds up tension by letting us see how and who the shark is going to attack, also it doesn't let us see the shark, that builds up abit more tension because we don't know what shark it is and how big it is, another way Spielsperg builds tension is the music made by john Williams when it plays as the shark is getting closer on attacking its prey, it starts of slow an quiet gradually getting louder and faster then stops when its just about to attack its victim. Another angle used is the medium shot mainly used in the second attack showing all the different people the shark could attack. The first attack involves a young woman called Chrissie Jones who is having a beach party in the early morning. She

A View From The Bridge

By the end of Act One, how has Arthur Miller shown that the tragic ending of "A View From The Bridge" is inevitable? From the beginning of the play we can tell that the place it is set, the Red Hook district of Brooklyn, is known to be a troublesome and yet unrestricted place to live. America is known to be a place of freedom, luxury and possibility, and this play expresses them all with the arrival of two immigrants by the name of Marco and Rodolpho. These two men seeking better opportunities have come to earn a better living for their families back in Italy and they stay with Eddie and Beatrice. During their stay some controversial and shocking events take place which set up the tragic ending for Eddie, as it turns out that Marco is the man who inevitably kills Eddie Carbone. Eddie Carbone's character within this play can be viewed in two ways. He can be seen as a caring, respectful hero towards his 'niece' or he can be interpreted as an overprotective pervert. Catherine is not a blood relative of Eddie, she is just the niece of his wife, but there still seems that Eddie has a tight grip on Catherine. Catherine has reached the age of 17 and should have the privileges of moving on and living her life without rules to abide by, but it seems Eddie can't handle this and that is what leads him to his misjudged personality. From the beginning of the play Eddie takes the
